It will be the worst decision in football if we don't offer Salah a new contract. We were bang average again today terrible at the back/ midfield for both Southampton goals and yet again he pulls us out of the s###e. Absolutely delighted with the win and 3 pts but if we continue to be so bad in 1st halves and either Grav or Salah get injured we will find things very difficult. Come on FSG get the bloody checkbook out and get Salah, Virgil and Trent signed up bloody joke that we are in this situation in the 1st place.

Read tghe recent Bascombe article on this topic, its presents both sides of a very good argument.

It’s hard to comprehend the ‘bang average’ comment when you look at the match stats to be fair. I know stats aren’t everything but apart from a couple of individual mistakes for their 2 goals it was hardly the dreadful performance it’s being made out to be.

As a Liverpool fan of many years I can tell you that they will not get away with games like this forever. Casual play all round They need a dose of reality and unless the attitude improves they will get it from Real Madrid on Wednesday and Man City on Sunday. I await with baited breath to see what team turns up for those 2 games.

We read that type of comment after almost every game. Yet here we are having lost just one match all season….

Slight over reaction to a win
Up the pool.

Seriously, the OTT stuff on here is just insane. Really, does anyone remember the Luton game last season or did that game get memory-holed conveniently? Do you people realize how massive of a game that was going into it? This was the poster boy of a true Trap game, if ever I've seen one and esp. since City had lost to Spurs. The pressure was on us to make it count esp. vs the bottom side who had nothing to lose.

At that point and esp. after the int'l break where players are off it for all big teams, do people care how good or badly we played provided we secured the result? Would these people have been happy with us playing we and great footie and not win hence, not punish City and win the weekend for a 3rd week in a row? Please, miss with all that mess.

And if anyone thinks we will play this way when playing the bigger teams has his/ their heads firmly somewhere else than actual reality.

Slot is spot on. Right now in most games we are winning by small margins. These wins can easily turn into draws or worse and other teams can go on big winning runs. Take it game by game. Results are amazing, performances less so. First 60 mins was poor. Jones and Robertson not really at the races. Just as Greek scouser was playing well he gets dropped. Reminds me of last season when we were scraping wins but performances didn’t get any better and the wheels fell off. Couple of new signings in January could make the difference. Striker and midfielder for me.

Absolutely horrible conditions and we were not at our best, 2 - 1 down with half an hour to go but we found a way to win again. Nowhere near a classic but the sort of game that any team that wants to be a serious challenger needs to win. Another box ticked and whilst we can obviously play better, if I’d been asked in July would we take an 8 point lead at the top of the table at the start of December I’d have taken your hand off.

Salah should have had 4. We did not scrape a win today but yes we did make it difficult.

24 Nov 2024 22:16:51
@StE, to be fair it should be said that our opponents and the weather also had a bit of a hand in making it difficult too. Of course the weather was the same for Southampton but when it’s cold and bucketing down it’s always a bit of a leveller.

For the first 60 mins Salah was MIA and that's a theme this season. His G/ As are through the roof and of course that's what wins games but let's be brutally honest and clear about his overall contribution.

I would not be surprised if he did leave on a free, along with VVD. Over the next few windows, there is likely a squad refresh as Slot evolves the team into the one he wants.

take the win and run home.
do the work after the game to perform better next game.
8 points clear with room to improve.
key is that we do need to keep improving.

Vango, are you aware that Madrid and city have been far far more average than us this season? What makes you think that they’re so good that they’d put us to the sword when we face them? Bit silly some fans thinking other teams have their stuff together and are unlucky while we’re just somehow getting lucky.

Also worth watching the soton and city game for a comparison, city deserved to lose that game, whereas we thoroughly deserved to win last night despite not being at our best.
