Ed1 - is Salah the best in the world?
{Ed001's Note - yes, by a margin as well.}
29 Dec 2024 19:44:42
As it stands now! at this moment in time it’s not even up for debate, without a doubt he’s the best on planet.
29 Dec 2024 19:46:36
It’s first season performance levels with added maturity. Surely we’ve got to give him a new deal.
29 Dec 2024 19:50:46
I would say VVD. We can afford to rest Salah and someone form that front 5 scores goals. Can you imagine dropping VVD. He is carrying an average defense all by himself. The most complete defender I have ever seen and should be winning the Blon D Or (which he won’t) . Unfortunately he isn’t blessed with an effective PR team.
29 Dec 2024 19:51:39
Do you think his nationality plays a part in him not getting the recognition he deserves? If he were south American or European would he be talked about more when it comes to the ballon dor for example?
29 Dec 2024 19:53:10
Can you remember that £150m that some wanted instead of him?
No, me neither ?.
29 Dec 2024 19:59:47
Salah just missed a hatful of chances. I agree with Disney, VVD is our most important player right now.
29 Dec 2024 20:17:23
Salah is a top top quality player and has been doing it season on season now for a number of years. Same as Vvd.
In 3 days time the biggest clubs around Europe and Saudi will be tripping over themselves to talk to their agents.
If we don’t offer them what they are looking for then it’s pretty obvious someone else will.
Hopefully the love of the club and fan base plays a big deciding factor in their decisions.
We can offer them continuity, a fan base that loves them and the opportunity to challenge for trophies.
These other clubs no doubts will be offering them huge signing on fees and opportunities to challenge for trophies.
Both for me are Liverpool legends.
29 Dec 2024 20:27:25
I'm very happy with the best player in the world not being our most important player ?.
I'm sure there are reasons for some to be very unhappy about that though.
29 Dec 2024 20:28:58
You can chose who you think is our most important player without making a silly comment about a genuinely world class forward @WarMachine. If anything the comment about Mo means people may be less likely to take your other opinions seriously.
29 Dec 2024 21:06:22
Sorry WDW, what was the silly comment?
29 Dec 2024 21:11:57
How many clubs could realistically match their wage demands and ambitions? Given their ages, as well, I don't think there are many.
I have no idea about the finances or their contracts but I think we are in a good position to re-sign them.
The money and their ages could be obstacles to other teams as they seem to be to us.
In our favour, they seem happy and settled at one of the biggest clubs in the world in the best league in the world. We're also a team that looks to be going places for the next two or three years that they would would be here.
29 Dec 2024 21:25:45
Rigsby that’s where the signing on fee comes into it.
No transfer fee involved so say 200k a week with a 20 mill signing on fee is more than 240k a week with us (just an example)
29 Dec 2024 21:39:54
I agree with WarMachine. I think Salah should be dropped next week, for missing a couple of chances. Teach him a lesson for been so unprofessional.
{Ed025's Note - it wont make a bit of difference Walkon, now this might sound a little bitter but when you get luck like you are getting you can play anyone and you will win mate, the first four goals were all deflections (not the 5th though) and when its your time...well its your time, sometimes you just deserve it..
29 Dec 2024 21:54:55
Walkon obviously likes to interpret things his own way like WDW.
29 Dec 2024 22:00:27
If anyone is interested and not already seen it, the Phil McNulty article ‘Is Liverpool’s new front three …’ is worth a read.
Some of the stats for this season he mentions are incredible. We are one game short of being halfway through the PL season and Mo has already scored and assisted in more individual games in a season - 8 so far - than anybody has ever managed in an entire season. Again, in 2019 / 20 Mo scored 19 goals and had 10 assists. This season - again one game short of a half season, Mo has 17 goals and 13 assists. The team are playing very, very well but MO’s numbers are just genuinely astonishing.
@WM, I think Salah missed one chance through a poor attempt, their GK made three instinctive saves which on another day might well have gone in. Salah got into position / made the chances but was unfortunate that their keeper’s reactions were very good. Saying he missed a “hatful of chances” suggests that his efforts were poor, which I think is wrong.
29 Dec 2024 22:19:11
I agree with all your points WDW except I think in this game he should have done a lot better with his many chances, both shots and when he was in great positions and wasted the opportunities. Bit like the man himself said in his post match interview he was disappointed he didn’t score more and Slot who said we should have been 3 up in the first 10 minutes. Def can’t argue with his stats. Out of this world and even though he missed a hatful imo, he still scored and assisted which demonstrates his mentality. Thankfully we have other players also scoring now unlike the end of last season. As important for me today and I agree with Gakpo in his post match interview was the clean sheet.
29 Dec 2024 22:40:48
ed025, you are a funny guy most of the time but you honestly can't be serious, we could have easily had double figures today! if both teams were clinical and took all there chances we would have won 11-3!
{Ed025's Note - yeah Fisk you bossed the game and could have easily scored a few more mate, im just saying that when your lucks in things go for you, the first 4 bounced off a player for you to score but when your lucks out they bounce to safety, and it can mean the difference between winning and losing at times..not this one though i must admit..
30 Dec 2024 01:13:52
Luck? Untill the first goal atleast the ref was playing for west ham. Easily took away a corner for us and gave them one.
30 Dec 2024 01:21:18
I get that, JK, but we could also look at the money saved on not replacing them to pay more in wages.
But we'll only pay so much and rightly so. Both players are in great form and shape but that could change very quickly.
Not many teams are in as good of a position to win the league or CL and pay their wages as we are either.
30 Dec 2024 06:23:16
@WM, the point I was trying to make was that if Ali makes two or three excellent saves in a match we all tend, rightly, to say that he has had a great game. To be honest zi thought their keeper had a very good game last night . I’d expect Mo to be disappointed that he didn’t score more but I think, apart from me of the chances, he didn’t really do anything wrong.
{Ed001's Note - at least 2 of our goals Areola was at fault for and should have saved. Not sure you can say any keeper that badly to blame for 2 goals being conceded can be said to have a very good game.}
30 Dec 2024 02:55:40
You make your own luck Ed025.
{Ed025's Note - you could be right Zapp..
30 Dec 2024 08:30:51
If u don't buy a ticket u won't win the raffle.
30 Dec 2024 08:36:51
Rig at that’s very true.
I’m just playing devils advocate and looking at what both options have to offer them. I’m not trying to say what will happen. Just mentioning that in 3 days time big signing on fees become a realistic option when they weren’t prior.
30 Dec 2024 10:27:52
Yes, I get what you are saying, JK; it is a worry but I don't see many realistic options for them.
30 Dec 2024 11:22:23
I knew I could rely on Ed025 with a bit of banter to brighten up my morning.
Thank you for giving us a bit of grounding and not letting us get too carried away. Life is too short to take everything so damn seriously!
{Ed025's Note - absolutely StEA, there is enough misery in this world mate without everyone being so serious..
30 Dec 2024 16:05:33
Rigsby neither do I.
But a small amount of options is still significantly more than no other options.
