Hi Ed001. I may be mistaken but I seem to remember you saying you don’t see Wharton as much different to Elliot and therefore why be in for him if we were to be. I haven’t seen much of him but he’s obviously rated. Where would you see his best position to be and would he add to or upgrade our midfield at all?
{Ed001's Note - his best position is central midfield and I am not sure he would upgrade our midfield at all, though I do like him. Like Elliott, he provides creativity with a lovely left peg, but he is no real improvement on him. People question Elliott's pace, but he is quicker than Wharton and they both are a bit lightweight, but neither shirk a challenge. I just don't see the need for him, much as I like him. If Elliott was playing for Palace, he would be getting rave reviews too.}

I think Wharton is special and going to prove to be major player for a top team. He'll also solve a lot of England's problems if given a chance. I would be delighted with Wharton and think he would instantly improve our midfield. That's my penny's worth.

Edd001 he definitely improves it for me. He's far more efficient in play and decision making than macca and sob. I think macallister is overrated by our fan base. He has some very good performances then others he looks soo poor and slow. Slow to what's happening in the game and his own pace. Whartons not faster but Wharton is more astute and has even a bite to his game. Macca puts the foot in at times but he also throws himself around like Ronaldo used to. It's cringe worthy. Macca can score goals though outside the box, something we've been missing. Sobs became an engine for us but I fear his talents and wand of a foot is being wasted. I think Wharton improve sob as a player to be honest.
Edd001 I love Wharton, I think he's destined to become a great and I'd love him to show just how good he is for us. On elliot, the lad has the talent but i can't see a position in the team that he can hold down unless he altered him game and played to the left. Depends on how klopp is setting up next season. A 9 that can put our chances away should be top priority.
{Ed025's Note - i think you meant Slot Batman..

Thanks Ed001. I really like Elliot and hope he can stay free of injury and show Slot his worth. Seems little need to go after Wharton if Elliot can do much the same job and I agree that if Elliot were elsewhere he’d be getting rave reviews. Your choice for a midfielder if you could buy only one?
{Ed001's Note - Wirrz.}

Ed025. Hope the last game at Goodison Park is good for you and all yours. End of a long era.
{Ed025's Note - cheers Kimos, it will be an emotional day i expect mate, i have been looking forward to Bramley Moore for a long time but as the time gets nearer im finding myself sad to be leaving the "old lady", as you say its the end of an era, but also the beginning of a new chapter..

Some differences between Elliott and Wharton. Elliott is much shorter and stockier in body type and whilst he is tenacious due to his previous injuries every time he goes in for a tackle everyone winces. Wharton is a more natural competitor with the added height and although he was injured for a lot of the start to the season he played through it for a while to the detriment of his performance level and it wasn’t broken bones. Elliott is the typical winger that’s too slow so has been moved to a number 10 type role with few active defensive responsibilities meaning he can press or fill space rather than actually break up play. This is why he doesn’t get game time for Liverpool, unless Liverpool are losing or drawing late in games they do not play with a no.10, instead they play 2 8s and a 6. Depending on how the game is going or game by game tactics alexis or dom may be used more defensively or offensively but Elliott can only play the offensive variation of the 8 role or the 10 that we didn’t plan to use this season. Wharton on the other hand plays central midfield in a 3-4-3, he plays in a 2 man central midfield he’s a box to box midfielder with responsibility at both ends. There is no pl team that would play Elliott in a 2 man central midfield none for example there’s no way he would play whartons role in the palace side. Wharton is able to do it all abit more like Jones than Elliott although he’s far better than him too he can. Elliott is a fine substitute as long as he’s happy to be one, he’s still young and still has a lot of ability but his physicality will be the reason he doesn’t play games regularly for a top premier league side. At a team that built a team around him he’d thrive but that won’t happen at any top club whereas Wharton could easily play center midfield for us in 40 games next season and it wouldn’t be a drop off he could be trusted to start in the big games against the big teams in a way that neither Klopp or slot has trusted Elliott. Klopp says he regrets not using him more during the injury crisis and I only half believe him I trust his original gut choices in the heat of battle when it mattered most and not his rose tinted spectacles of his reflections of his boys that we knew for years he’s too loyal too.
