A very good morning all Ed's and Reds ?. So with Konate looking very very likely to be going is everyone happy with Guehi as his replacement? Ok for me Konate is not worth the big pay increase he's looking for. Secondly I'm very underwhelmed by Guehi I'm hoping that the club look at someone else but it's not looking likely. Hopefully Guehi will prove me wrong.
{Ed077's Note - look at someone else but who? There aren't too many players that stand out as good candidate to come into the Liverpool team, who are also on the move this window

Guehi could prove to be a hidden gem.

I'd be happy with Guehi as a signing but would have hoped Konate was staying. I rate Konate higher than Guehi but he'd be a solid 3rd choice. I would genuinely like some suggestions from posters who they'd preferably go for and who we could realistically get. Price has to come into it aswell, when your seeing the bournemouth lad heading to PSG for £70m getting an England regular in for £45m is not to be scoffed at.

That's what I am asking Seamus. Is there anyone else or is it just Guehi?
{Ed077's Note - I hear Maguire only has 1 year on his deal ?.

I know a lot of people on here don't rate Guehi but I'd happily see him brought in as Konate's replacement.

What will Utd without their defensive leader ?.

Guehi is nowhere near as good as Konate. Huge step down in defensive ability, physicality and overall quality, as a 3rd or 4th choice and squad filler he’s ok, but nothing more than that. I’m not swayed by him being an England regular either because quite frankly England are rubbish and there’s an absolute dearth of remotely decent English defenders (plus he was at fault for Spain’s goals in the Euros final) . Would rather we go for Bastoni or Loic Bade to replace Konate.

Guehi coming in as konate's replacement is quite disastrous in my opinion. As a replacement for Quansah as third choice center half, sure, he's mobile and excellent with the ball at his feet when we are on the front foot. He is more like an understudy for Virgil more than anything, and cannot replace Ibou's qualities at all. Is konate really that expendable in people's eyes?

See that's where the realistic part comes in Victor, were not getting Bastoni outa Inter.

Akira says the deal w Konate will be sorted - this is the dance prior to the marriage.

Just my thoughts at presant.
If konate doesn't sign an extension I'd keep him and let him run his contract down. If teams are only prepared to offer 25 million then I don't see the point.
Guehi coming in with konate staying gives us a chance to see how good he actually is in a top teir team. Internationals are hard to judge. If we were to pay 40 to 45 million for him I'm pretty sure we could get the same or more back if it doesn't work out.
It gives us a year to figure out a solution if we need to.
Guehi also solves an issue coming down the road in a few years. Alisson and van dijk won't be around forever and we need some experience in our back line going forward.
Whether guehi becomes a cemented starter or not he definitely adds experience and a professionalism to our backline as a whole unit.
We seem to be interested in a lot of young centre halves and with kerkez Bradley and frimpong already there I worry about the overall experience and a cool head commanding operations in the middle.
Of course van dijk may play another 3 to 4 years which would massively help matters.
Guehi at 35 to 40 million doesn't feel like too big a risk to me whether konate stays or goes. Preferably I'd have konate stay, be it for 1 more year or 4.
Guehi and Hato in together would be even better but for reasons mentioned above I can understand if the club want guehi now and are prepared to wait and take the gamble that hato is still available next year.
If konate does go I think both come in now.
Another point might be that guehi is only prepared to come in if konate is definitely going which makes most of the above pointless waffle. But maybe he also comes in after being told konate is only staying for another year.
Konate staying gives guehi time to find his feet and settle which is worth 25 million in my opinion.
On top of that a solid backline in the middle will help all the other new signings get up and running faster.

@Ship, I don't rate Guehi BUT that does not mean he will be bad for us. In fact if he signs, I will support him and hope he flourishes. Right now, I just don't think he is what we need to replace Konate.
