Looking at our squad in terms of Home grown and registration rules. In the Champions League list A let's you have 25 players. 8 need to be home grown and 4 club trained otherwise you play with a smaller squad.
Let’s say Tsimikas and Elliott go and Isak/ Guehi come in
That’s
Alisson, Mamardashvilli, Woodman
Frimpong, Bradley, Gomez, Guehi, Leoni, Konate, VVD, Robertson, Kerkez
Gravenberch, Endo, MacAllister, Jones, Szoboszlai, Nyoni, Wirtz
Salah, Chiesa, Ekitike, Isak, Gakpo, Ngumoha
Great squad BUT that’s the full 25 with only 2 club trained players. Bradley and Jones. We’d need to further reduce the squad by 2
One easy solution is you remove Woodman and use a list B keeper like Misciur as 3rd choice. The other space is a bit tricker to open up. Maybe we just leave Nyoni out and register Stephenson? Bajcetic and McConnell would be on list B as it stands.
It won’t be as much of a headache in the coming years but a couple of players will miss out on the squad this year.

Rio and nyomi don’t count as they’re under 21 so that’d be fine.

@QOSR For Europe they need to have been at the club for 2 years for a free U21 spot.

So just nyomi?

Isn't Frimpong qualify as home grown when he was at Celtic?

I wouldn't worry about this the club know the rules and I'm sure they have a plan to stick to it. They aren't going to buy players then think oh sh*t we don't have enough home grown players to register them. That's how I like to look at it anyway.

Frimpong came through the academy at City.

Stephenson already left on loan to Dundee I think.

Don’t where I’ve got this from, but I thought Woodman was ‘club trained’, didn’t he play in the Liverpool academy as a kid?

Did Sesko play today?

So a couple mistakes. Using your squad list (which I think is ideal) :
Alisson, Mamardashvilli, Woodman
Frimpong, Bradley, Gomez, Guehi, Leoni, Konate, VVD, Robertson, Kerkez
Gravenberch, Endo, MacAllister, Jones, Szoboszlai, Nyoni, Wirtz
Salah, Chiesa, Ekitike, Isak, Gakpo, Ngumoha
There are 3 club trained players (Jones, Gomez (joined at 18), Bradley) and 3 home grown (Frimpong, Guehi, Woodman) .
Nyoni is U21 and has been at the club for 2 years, so can go on list B. Same applies to Bajcetic who hasn’t been listed above.
Ngumoha however hasn’t been at the club long enough for that, and is too young to qualify as home grown (3 years trained in association between 15-21). He therefore requires a foreign player slot.
So of the 25 man squad, no Nyoni makes 24, and remove the 6 club trained / home grown players leaves 18. So therefore one of the remaining players wouldn’t be able to be registered as only 17 foreign players are allowed. Not really ideal.
Candidates would probably be Ngumoha (I’d rather he was able to get run outs against the lesser teams in the group stage), Leoni (same as above), or Chiesa (would want him giving Salah rests for certain games as well) .
Given we have 4 other CBs it would likely end up being Leoni missing out, but that’s probably one of his only sources of games this season aside from the cups so don’t know how well that will go down with him straight after joining!

DK97, I agree with all of that.
Given we can change our squad between the group stage and the knockout stage, I'd give Leoni the spot for the group stage (Rio is younger, less experienced and also will get more opportunities in early Carabao games. Also, as shown by Slot on Friday, he will get time in league games too - less disruptive to change one of the forwards than a CB.
Then see what we need (and how much game time players have had and injuries etc) for the knockout stages.
I'm sure that Rio and Leoni won't be expecting to play every week, and there are always the U21 games too.
Footyfan - Woodman hasn't played for us before - his youth career was at Palance until the age of 16, and then at Newcastle where he got plenty of loans out to other clubs. I *think* he qualifies as CT for Newcastle as a number of the loans were half season so the Newcastle chaps probably had half an eye on his CT status. Most of the loans (other that half a season with Kilmarnock and half a season with Aberdeen) were to English league clubs so he is definitely HG.

There is still the possibility that Konate doesn't sign his new contract and we offload him.

Great info dk fair play.

Nyoni joined in September 2023. He won’t have completed his 2 years by the time the list has to be submitted he’d have to be on List A.

Think people trying to explain the champions league squad are wide off the mark. Without going into the ins and outs, I wouldn’t worry the club know the rules. Rio Ngumoha for example qualifies as home grown. The rules state 1 year before and after can be considered ( so it’s from when he was 14) so being registered with Chelsea in the 2022/ 23 season qualifies him when he turns 17. A few days before having to submit your squad.
