My appreciation for Gerrard just increases.
Even when we were dog rubbish and we were (i remember a stat when we had lambert borini and ballotelli as our strikers and they had 3 goals between them in 32 starts! )
And the times we had ngog and jovanovic leading our lines.
And we had midfield of shelvey allen Or poulsen merellies and spearing!
All that tripe we saw as LFC fans But we never fell to the levels united have.
Gerrard did push us through Respect!

He is bigger than the whole Man UTD history. Gerrard was a hope, A hope that kept us alive. We didn’t finish below 8th in the last 30 years.

People think United are bad - Gerrard played in worse teams for most of his career.
He dragged them to top four and won trophies consistently.
United are in a similar place to Liverpool back then, but they don’t have Gerrard.
That’s why he’ll always be the greatest.

The last 10 years has definitely been the best era since I started following the club (early 90's) . Knowing that prolonged success is never guaranteed makes me appreciate these halcyon times for what they are. Long may they continue.
Like you highlight, our squad quality is incomparable to those of the past where we were reliant on 3 or 4 to carry the rest. We have always had real Quality players (Alonso, Torres, Gerrard, Fowler to name a few) but as my Sgt in the army would say, "Its hard to soar like an eagle when you have to fly with the crows! "

We drew 2-2 with Northampton in the 2010 Carabao Cup before losing 4-2 on penalties. I'd say that's quite similar to the result Utd had last night.
Granted, Gerrard didn't play in that game but that was during the Hodgson era and those were very bleak times for us.

Your 100% right akira. we had some awful teams at times around 2010-15 but we never as bad as utd have been over last few years. U could look at some of our teams around then and we had lot of v poor players and not much investment into team whereas utd on paper have some good players and an absolute fortune spent on them. I believe it gerrard and also carragher that kept us to a certain standard then, we never finished lower than 8th.

Gerrard is one of my all time favorite midfielders. Might just have to watch a goals reel of him. I think he walks into any team he's that good.

Gerrard also played with some very good players at Liverpool.
Suarez, Torres, Fowler, Owen, Alonso, Mascherano etc.
Let the United fans talk about being around 15th position in the League.
Why are we getting dragged into it? ?
I thought they'd be a lot better this season- and I still think they will- but when they have to play with the same system with big lumbering centre halves (that end up playing up front anyway) with their best player and leading goal scorer being moved away from goal, I'm not so sure.
I'm becoming almost indifferent to United. I'm more bothered about how Arsenal, City and even Chelsea results and United losing is just a bonus.

I remember Liverpool welcoming Wolves to Anfield in one of Hodgsons last games.
Wolves had the worst away record in the entire country at this point, I think was January 2011, and Roy spoke before the game as though the 1970 Brazil team was coming to town.
Wolves won 1-0. Dark times indeed.

I was at that game, Semi. That was as bad as it got. Remember Kop singing Hodgson for England.

If it wasn't Man Utd then I would probably have some sympathy for the fans. I have several family members and friends who are Utd supporters who never showed an sympathy when we were 'struggling'. I'm not the sort to gloat, never have been, partly because I remember how it feels. Have to say though that this Utd team is playing like a lower Championship level team. They just don't seem to have the heart and no-one grasping the game by the scruff of the neck like we did with Gerrard. There are a lot of similarities between us under Hodgson and Utd now, the difference is the senior players - I just don't see Bruno or Casemiro dragging Utd over the line like Stevie did for us time after time after time.

Life, and the Universe, are absolutely amazing. What goes around comes around.
I love it when they spend 500 million every year and get nowhere. Supply of money is not endless. I'm waiting for the total crash.

@Malabar Restaurant. The best place to eat in Castellon de la Plana. I go there every year without fail.

It just goes to show how much influence fergie had over the premier league they have had serial trophy winners manage them ex players manage them and a manager that is like a rabbit in the head lights trying to manage them with none of them able to get anywhere with them there must be a reason and that reason is fergie and the ex man utd CEO who ran the premier league.
