If we played the same as we did last season, with the 3 in the middle providing cover for the backline, which of course helped us make the midfield strong and compact to bypass.

Then i do think Isak would have been night and day the more important player, as it’s last season what we cried out for aswell as depth for Gravenberch, which i think Slot also could of helped by utilising Endo in some games.

Whilst on the other hand you could look at how open we are this season and Konates rash defending at times. Then from there you could say Guehi is more important. However i think we potentially need to see how we gel as it is only early days, along with us breaking up that solid 3 and adding Wirtz to it.

So maybe it may take some time for us to work it out and understand how better to control games etc. It does slightly worry me though about the defensive reinforcements, as we all know Konate is off the boil lately, Gomez can never stay fit and a Van dijk injury and it’s looking abit shakey.

I guess time will tell, but hopefully we revisit the Guehi deal in January and go from there.

I’d be more concerned by Salah’s current form so far as we’d have been a long ekitike injury away from attacking troubles.

Konate looked much more like his old self against Arsenal.

You’ve spent all window chasing for Isak updates and now we’ve actually got him, you’re worried he wasn’t the priority ?.

Weren't very open against the best team in the league besides us last Sunday. Think besides a few minutes of madness vs Bournemouth and having to deal with Wimbledon-ball vs Newcastle (did they really open us up much from open play? ) how dodgy our defense has been has been exaggerated a bit. A couple of dodgy performances from individuals yes but that's to be expected in the first coupla games while replacing both starting fullbacks for the last 8 years.

Just promise us that you aren't going to be finding a million different ways to ask ed001 about guehi every day kingkenny and we'll be fine hahaha.

I feel the same King,

I’ve been thinking about Deadline Day all day (I’m from Sydney) and whilst I’m super excited about Isak, I can’t help but think in the back of my mind that the Guehi deal is the one that would secure titles and trophies this season. I just hope we don’t wait till June 2026, and we pay the 15m or so it will take to make sure that Marc is a Red on Jan 1. I know he isn’t the most amazing, but for the future, the fact that he is HG, and how awkward we’ve looked at defending this season so far, I just think it isn’t worth risking it to the end of the season. If he was good enough for us to sign now, he will be good enough to sign in January.

{Ed025's Note - you cant say that Gav, or you get berated for having a negative opinion of your fantastic defence mate.. :)

Really happy with the window, even with that last minute mishap.

More importantly, we look really hungry. This lot are hungry for more silverware. Virgil looks like he's grown another foot and developed more variation in his line breaking passing.

Konate didn't look off the boil at the weekend.
It's worth bearing in mind that he (and the others) are still coming to terms with losing a close mate just a few weeks ago.

Konate was excellent last game against the Bridesmaids and we have a top class CB in Leoni. Injuries can happen to any team but we have four really good CBs when fit and its only 4 months until the transfer window.
Maybe a cheeky bid for Guehi in January?

02 Sep 2025 11:27:25
In the meantime, while we work it out, let’s hope the team just keep winning.

The thing is KK it seems we miss out on Guehi for now and everyone starts talking like it’s a disaster because Guehi would’ve solved all of our problems.

Whether Guehi or Konate start the midfield issue is the same.

I would much rather have Konate in a physical one on one battle with a centre forward than Guehi. We won the league last season with Konate at the back but he has 2 dodgy games and all of a sudden Guehi is miles better than him? It’s ludicrous.

Ask yourself this. When it looked like Guehi was going to Newcastle or Arsenal were you bothered? I wasn’t. He’s not this world class difference maker that people are trying to make out he is.

He’s a decent player and it’s a shame we didn’t get him but let’s not go overboard here.

Thing is we are an injury to vvd away from being in trouble defensively, Guehi would of been a handy option to have, I know we have the young lad but unproven in prem.

02 Sep 2025 13:14:10
Exile we’ve always been an injury to VVD away from being weaker defensively. that's simply because he’s the best in the world. Guehi would not have changed that.

Yes he would’ve been another option but he couldn’t have filled a void left by an injury to VVD.

If it happens it happens and we’d have to find a solution, which we would.

People make way too much of this injury to VVD stuff anyway like the team would fall apart. We wouldn’t.
Last time Virgil had a long term injury he got injured in October followed by Gomez 2 weeks later on international duty and we played with Matip and Fabinho at the back and were top on Christmas Day.

The team fell apart in January when Matip got injured against West Brom and we had to play Hendo and Fabinho at CB. Then Fabinho got injured too!

Guehi would’ve been a bonus but all this talk of him being more important than Isak is laughable. Seriously laughable. As if signing Guehi would make us win more games than signing Isak. It’s just people searching for negativity where there isn’t any.

02 Sep 2025 15:04:27
Totally agree that Isak was the more important transfer, just saying I think if we did lose vvd guehi would of given us better options defensively, but with the firepower we have now even if we lost a couple of defenders we would outscore most teams.

????? we spent £400m+ on a lot of very, very talented footballers. We are the reigning league champions, we have started the season on three of our for cylinders and we have won 3 out of 3 with two exceptionally troublesome fixtures - the amped up Geordies and the bridesmaids (great nickname) so it comes as no surprise that people’s first thought should be to fixate on what’s going to go wrong. 48 hours for normal service to be resumed.
