An interesting turn of events: Chiesa has been omitted from Liverpool's Champions League squad.
It looks like the choice of the final position was between Chiesa and Rio, and Slot opted for Rio instead. Really feel for Chiesa, he looks to have done everything right (in both attitude and performance) yet Slot still doesn't seem to value him.
Liverpool enter with a 22 man squad (Plus Danns, Bajcetic, etc, who do not have to be listed) . Due to UEFA rules, Rio is classified as non-home grown, so therefore takes one of those positions.
Considering the Champions League has been expanded, I am surprised there has not been an increase to player numbers. Then again, UEFA have no care for player welfare and simply desire more money.

There has been outrage about Chiesa omittion from the UCL 22 man squad due to home grown quota. But let's face it, I've seen Slot trust in him and trying to manage his fitness. And champions league might be his target this season. Imagine if Chiesa were to be selected ahead of Rio and the next game he get injured and out for 2 or more months.
We all love and want Chiesa to succeed at the club. His character and passion has been incredible and we pray he stay fit, maybe he will play a major role in the knock out stage when the UCL squad is adjusted in January.
We are in 4 competition and he will be assess on his fitness with more game time.

He might get in after the group phase, so it's not all doom and gloomy. But I can see why the decision has led to some raised eyebrows. I agree with you that we need to continue managing his fitness and Slot and his team must have thought it through, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

Chiesa didn’t make the pre season tour behind every player we’ve sold this window.
Cant believe this omission has come as a shock to anyone.
He played the equivalent of 3% of league minutes last season. As much as he’s liked amongst the fan base it’s pretty clear Slot doesn’t fancy him.

To be fair, neither chiesa or Rio would have been expected to start in the champions League, so give Rio the experience of travelling with the team, and maybe Chiesa starts a league game or 2 during busy schedules.
I can't imagine chiesa is thrilled about it, but he very much seems like a "I'll help the team in whatever form they need" kinda guy, so he'll just get his head down and enjoy the ride.

This happens pretty often, WDW. Don't see the outrage and as someone said, Chiesa may get added in the second stage of the CL, should we make it.
