Just out of curiosity I thought I’d look up the most expensive GK transfers of all time. Mamardashvili our sub keeper is number 9 on the list. How times have changed in terms of our finances and the quality of keepers at the club. We’ve had some shockers in the years between Brucie and Allison.

You could argue, on their day, James, Westerweld, Dudek and Reina could be very good goalies. Sadly, those occasions were too few. Throw in Mignolet and . oh. I;m having trouble typing his name. Kar. Kar. Karius. we've had some absolute stinkers. Even the back-ups - Carson; Friedel; Kirkland were mostly poor.
Kelleher and Adrian were useful, but it really isn't brilliant.
I think a lack of pull of LFC in the 90s and 00s, and it maybe not being seen as important as other roles in the team led to this and all the better keepers being poached by teams with more allure.

Agree with most of what you have said CTTF.
However, I would put Kelleher in the list of "very good goalies".
I would also put Reina on his own as a step up from the rest, but not at Alisson's level.
Do agree with our lack of pull in 90s and 00s, down to David Moores mainly.
Imagine what we could have won with our attacking options in the 90s if we'd had a couple of decent CBs (less of the John Scales and Razor Ruddock! ) and someone like Seaman, Schmeichel or even a Tim Flowers or Nigel Martyn. Or from overseas, I remember we were heavily linked to Chilavert at the time.

Regina was class. And we got him after winng champions league.

Reina was a top goalkeeper; miles better than Kelleher. He was very quick for a goalie and excellent when coming out to confront an opponent.
He wasn't Alisson's level though.

Reina was decent for a few years and then just fell off a cliff.

David James was horrendous. Absolutely zero positive attributes. One of our worst decisions. Thank God we are in such a different place today.

As Reina's hairline started to recede and his waistline slowly began to burgeon his performances dropped off.
It was the beggining of the H&G era too, he was quite open with his disillusionment over the club's direction.

My Reina assessment incorporated his whole time with us. First couple of years, he was ace. His distribution was very good and he always looked very neat and tidy, which is essential in my eyes.
