Hi Eds Hope you're good.

What do you think it would take in the current scenario for Slot to lose his job. Ultimately who in the club would take that decision?

{Ed001's Note - Hughes. If there are no signs of improvement soon, I am sure he will wield the axe. I could only guess how long as I don't know Hughes to ask him.}

We’re in crisis, but by league standings and results so are City and Chelsea. Arsenal are the only balanced and consistent team, built on defence but with a few goals in them. It looks like they’ll walk it much as we did last season.

If we get our act together now second would be achievable because teams around us are equally as poor or inconsistent, I’m not sure it can wait until end of November though. Judging by Hughes way of working to date if the right options are available we move, if not we ignore the noise and sit tight.

We’ve spent too much to fail, so paying compensation to get the right manager is nothing in the grand scheme. I think one more league loss would be too much not to act if there are managerial options available. so it’ll be on the next game.

If it were you, Ed1, how much time would you give him? I feel like it’s an awkward situation because this is the manager who brought us the EPL title in his first season, yet just a few months later, we’ve lost four Premier League matches in a row. Looking at the table, we’ve conceded 14 goals and have a goal difference of just +2, which shows how poor we’ve been.

On one hand, given the quality of the squad we have, those kinds of stats are a sackable offence. But at the same time, as a club, we’re not known for sacking managers as frequently as others, like Chelsea. We’ve always given our managers time. In fact, since the Premier League era began, only Hodgson has failed to last more than two years in charge. Although, to be fair, comparing those two squads is like comparing a Ferrari to a Vauxhall Corsa.

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult to give him much time when the players are so unfit, but then would that change under a new regime? That is down to fitness and conditioning coaches who rarely get replaced. Maybe we should start by replacing those now?}

I am guessing that if there is a decision made, it won't be before the next int'l break.

Do you think he’ll end up getting sacked ed1? I’d love the Bournemouth manager. It looks like he’s lost the dressing room.

{Ed001's Note - there have been no signs of improvement, so it is entirely possible.}

It was easy to be impressed by Slot last season. However, the true metal of a man shows through adversity. His current reactions and non-reactions are quite telling. I'm fairly disappointed.

Id hate it if we changed managers mid-season.

After spending almost half a billion on 7 players with average age of 22.7yrs, I would hope the club are looking at the next 5+ years not just this season.

Ok, if they somehow come to the conclusion that struggling in his first half of the season are indicative of what the next season plus will be then fair enough. But I don’t know how you make that call even as the results are bad.

We’ve had periods like this under Klopp and we stuck by him.

I don’t want to go on a merry go round post-Klopp trying to find the manager who can every season make us title winners.

We will spend a decade in turmoil if we do that.

Clearly Andoni Iraola would be top of Richard Hughes' list.

I really like him but this job feels too big for him at this time.

I'd also worry that we're a million miles way from being fit enough to play his Bielsa style of football without accumulating more injuries. Our squad is relatively small as it is.

Said it last year say it again I’d love to try a coax Milner back as a coach, fitness first while he takes his badges.

Our squad is small?!

26 Oct 2025 23:45:40
EndoPier - it is smaller than usual. We have one backup winger that the gaffer doesn’t fancy and one that is a kiddie that can’t start games. We have one injury prone CB as backup CB that can’t be trusted to start a game.

We don’t even have a kid from the academy we can promote in this position. We have one DM who the gaffer doesn’t fancy at all. We don’t even have a kid to promote here either.

Is Hughes not partly to blame for spending enormous amounts of money on inappropriate players who do not find together in a cohesive unit and bringing in too many at one time?

27 Oct 2025 01:59:49
Isn't Bajcetic back at Liverpool and training with the first team?

I mean, the guy could cover two positions (just like Endo btw), and although it's being said here he has a time-keeping problem, I still remember him breaking into the first team and playing well under Klopp in a desperate situation.

No that Slot is going to give him a chance, though (have to look at how the academy has barely featured in his plans) but Stefan could well be an option for a new manager.

With you there, Kobeyashemaru. I am disappointed with Slot's reactions and non-reactions, as well. Sounds like the way BR was before he eventually got the chop as things were getting worse. Just like things are getting worse under Slot now.

@Faith, I see your point BUT no manager will escape the chop if things aren't changing or are getting worse, which they are. Sad but true.
