Hey Ed01, if you're around,

With all the rumors swirling around Semenyo, what’s your take on it?

If you had to rank the priorities, winger, DM, or CB, how would you order them?

And do you reckon just bringing in new faces will solve the issues, or do we eventually need to change the system and style to get the best out of Wirtz, Isak, and Ekitike (and the whole team really)?

Lastly, any chance that Salah going off to AFCON could end up being a blessing in disguise for us?

Cheers!

{Ed001's Note - I am sure we will attempt to sign him, not necessarily to play just on the right, he adds cover and depth to the team all across the front line and grafts his arse off. With Arsenal (who he supports I believe) not interested right now, I expect us to be able to get him.

For me, the priority is centre-backs plural. We need both our current pair replaced, Virgil due to age and Konate due to being a disaster.
I would say defensive mid is next but as Slot doesn't use one, it seems a pointless transfer to make, unfortunately, which makes winger second.

We need to change the system and style of play, it doesn't work in the Prem. No new signings are going to fix it, the most important thing is getting the right set up first. The best team wins the league, not the best 11 players.

No, it is always a disaster as the Egyptian FA is an absolute joke. I have pointed out before that they will take visitors up to his room at all times of day and night, interrupting his preparation for games. Added to that, the training and set up is such a mess, even their head coach has come out publicly criticising it now. It ends up with him losing weeks of proper training, which is not good for him or us.}

I think we the reds ment that it will be better LFC not having Salah in the team, suggesting that we are better without him?
And not having him as an option makes way for a better set up.

I think we’d be better without Slot than Salah. Salah who was top scorer and had the most assists last year doesn’t turn crap over night. Salah could show more but I firmly put his form down to our tactics. Personal opinion.

Ed, I didn't think Arsenal were interested either cos they seem stacked out wide esp. since Arteta will never allow his pet Martinelli to be challenged.

Hopefully, we do get Semenyo cos that will help us out wide on either side cos clearly, Slot don't rate Chiesa and Rio is too young.

Cheers for the detailed reply, Ed, appreciate you taking the time.

And just to clear up the Salah bit from my initial post: I wasn’t trying to say we’re somehow better off without him. I only meant whether his absence might force us into trying different setups or combinations that could have some longer-term upside. More of a “is there any possible silver lining? ” rather than it being a positive thing overall, especially knowing how messy the AFCON situation is for him personally.

So his bad form now is because of the coach but his good form last season wasn't? Seems more like you have an agenda.

@Jimethered, I think you are missing the point that was being made. Last season we had a very good squad of players and we used a system that got the best out of our starting line up. This year we have a better squad of players but we are using a system that doesn’t make anywhere near the best use of the players we have.

In the case of Mo, he is suffering most with the new set-up and his confidence looks low. That doesn’t mean he has lost anything in terms of ability but he isn’t getting the same opportunities that he has had in recent years because the system has changed.

To be fair against Chelsea we didn't have any problems getting him the ball early to run at his full back every time we had the chance, but he was inexplicably poor doing the things we have seen him do countless times before. That being said, he was fantastic against villa and Madrid so obviously he isn't over the hill, but we can't blame his form entirely on the system, he is still our number one offensive option and he is still given liberties off the ball that no other player enjoys in our starting eleven.

Oli
Matinelli plays on the left and Semenyo mainly on the right.

{Ed001's Note - Semenyo has played more games at centre-forward than either wing (which he has played about equally) so no idea why you have decided he plays mainly on the right. He is comfortable all over the front line, not mainly anywhere.}

IR, Ed responded correctly. Altho, I have not seen Semenyo play thru the middle, I have seen him play on either flank. In fact he alternated both flanks vs Villa in B'mouth's last game vs Villa. He is interchangeable.

As for Martinelli, Semenyo can also take Martinelli's place (he is levels above him) cos he ain't starting ahead of Saka BUT Arteta ain't having that. However, I also believe that Semenyo is not needed at Arsenal cos they signed Madueke. Just my take.

Transfermarket give his PL stats as playing mainly on the right wing, nearly equal to all other positions combined . LW, CF, RM and LM ?‍♂️.

IR like I said, Semenyo is interchangeable. Your stats just proved my point. Cheers, man.
