Hey all,

I know people are upset with Marc guehi. Given the price and situation he was a great opportunity however I do not think he is that good even though he has had a great first half of season. I don't think it's a nightmare to miss out on him abelit the transfer fee was good. I think there are so many better centre backs out there. English player English hype. I might be wrong but never been a fan of guehi.

Now guehi is not available, we must go for schottlerbeck or Bastoni. Are either of the two attainable Ed's. I have heard bastoni doesn't want to leave Italy.

Who would you suggest for the new van dijk role?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - it is not much of a choice, as Bastoni is highly unlikely to leave Italy.}

Is there any other word to describe this situation other than mercenary.

Im not upset about Guehi. I never thought for a second he was going to join cos Palacesorry I mean, Glasner didn't want to sell him to us. Not sure why but that's what I think.

Btw, it's Marc Guehi, not a prime Joel Matip we didn't sign. As long as we get a CB that the club want this Jan. Guehi or not, Im cool.

Not mercenary on Semenyo or Guehi's part. They are just blokes making the best living for themselves and their families. You can't blame them for trying to get the best deal they can.

The less said about City the better. Apparently they have now spent £ 414m on 14 players since Jan 2015. I'd love to see how that stacks up against PSR, not that it seems to apply to them.

From my perspective, if players want to go somewhere other than Liverpool. For whatever reason, then we are better off without them. They are missing the opportunity of a lifetime - more fool them.

How are they mercenaries when we never even put a bid in. They can't sign for us if we don't act. The three amigos could have had this done Jan 1st and opted not. It's purely on them.

Their net spend since 2020 is less than Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd, Spurs and us. They have sold a lot of talent and home grown.

Seriously if we were thinking of replacing VVD with Guehi we would've been in big trouble.

For me, Guehi would've only ever been a squad player and we can't take a £300k a week gamble that he might improve enough to take us forward post VVD.

Is Trent a mercenary? Owen? Macca? Doesn't have to derogatory but think it's a fair assessment.

By all accounts he wanted to come but my guess is that when there's that much more money on the table and we're not going to match it, then money talks and loyalty walks.

Whereas I don't see Guehi as a long term replacement for Van Dijk, he's too small, too weak, not dominant enoug, there's no argument that he wouldn't be a good squad player as he is extremely versatile, can cover both fullback positions, centre back and defensive midfield, it's a missed opportunity particularly given he's English. As for Semenyo, he's better than every single winger we have and it's not remotely close.

Pace, acceleration, strength, work ethic, end product and counts as home grown. Also not a dickhead. Genuinely baffling why we didn't go for them this window as they were so called "market opportunities". As it is, we're two defensive injuries away from an absolute implosion and with Konate and Gomez being so fragile it's not beyond the realms of possibility either.

I said 2015 but mis-typed it should have said 2025.
