Great if Alonso comes. If he decides or the club decide it is summer and Slot stays till then I can't see that working out well. Just supposing Slot leaves before the end of the season, it's reasonable to assume we'll get an interim.
If that happens who do the eds or people ITK think that could be? Somebody already at the club or anyone else spring to mind? I know Gerrards name has been doing the rounds but are there any other short term solutions on the horizon?

If the decision has been made then imo Alonso should start as soon as possible.
It's no good for the club to continue the rest of the season with a manager who's known to be a lame duck, it's terrible for internal discipline since the players know for certain there'll be someone else calling the shots come the summer, and it's not fair on Slot himself imo.

I think slot is off once we loose in CL and CL progress is on the line.
We loose approx 50million if don't make it to elimination stages.

Nothing is finalised until contracts are signed etc at which point I agree that it makes no sense to wait until the summer.
If our alleged agreement with Alonso is verbal only slot can happen between now and the end of the season.
Alot is not making sense here for me. Slot is Hughes' man, so is he backing him or not? If he is then surely that means a decision has been made above him, so is he going now as well? If he isn't then he's the person that can make the decision literally right now as I type this? So why isn't it happening? Does Slot know and is happy to just see it out for the next few games or until the summer? Why would anyone do that? Neither he nor the players will be motivated.
I think if true then this is more complicated than it might seem to be and perhaps we will see a major shake up happening at all levels.

If that is the case then it means they are ready to write off the season should CL not happen with Alonso in the hot seat right now. Cos there is a chance that we still don't get CL if he comes in due to obv. reasons like squad assessment, change in system/ training methods, you get the point.
On the other hand, there is also a chance that Slot (a lame duck, as you say correctly) doesn't get CL this seas due to the evidence of rubbish we have been seeing for the last 3 months and with other teams creeping up on us (we are 4 points ahead of Fulham in 10th, btw). It's stick or twist right now, IMO.

It's understandable from Xabi if he wants a break, but I'd agree Westwood it's less understandable from the clubs point of view. Also these guys are pretty resilient, you have to be. There may be something tax wise for Xabi which makes it better for him to stay where he is for a bit.
One possible reason from the club point of view could be that they'd have less to pay off on Arne's and his coaches contracts, but there's obviously a big risk if we wait and we don't qualify for top 4 or 5 would Xabi come and we'd also struggle to attract some players.
Another possible reason could be the club acknowledge the problems we've got, and accept it's not best for a new manager to come into that now with the expectation of a top 5 finish, and he'd want to rip up the back room which would take a few weeks at least.
It makes you wonder about these rumours, they seem plausible given the problems we're seeing on the pitch but on balance surely it's better to move now.
