Anthony Gordon's transfer to Barcelona is more suspicious than stupidity.
To think we had real interest, I'd be sacking anyone who recommended him or how he ticked the correct "stats". Such a terrible limited footballer.

Did we have genuine interest though? It always felt to me like an opportunity to get him cheap because of their situation. When he was no longer available on the cheap, we switched targets to players that we actually wanted.

Shipley, there was genuine interest in Gordon the season Slot arrived. It was debated on here a lot, and I remember advocating against signing Gordon cos he is a poor footballer and nowhere near the level of Gakpo and Diaz, something both players would prove as they performed very well the season we won the title. The guy ain't it.

OliRed, in fairness, the interest was justified back then, he did put up numbers the previous season, I think he had about 15 assists and nearly as many goals.

@Oli, I know there was a lot of chat about it that season, but my point was that interest seemed to instantly disappear when Newcastle sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for next to mother, so that they would meet PSR, and therefore no longer needed to offload players on the cheap. Once he became full price, we stepped away for other targets.

It's in regards to the England game. The World Cup is currently relevant. England have some very good attacking players and Gordon shouldn't be starting any games with what's available.

Shipley, no problem, and I didn't even know about all that mess with Anderson nor Minteh even tho I knew Minteh was a Newcastle player. Didn't know Anderson was a Newcastle player till a lot later.

Having been fooled into watching England revert to type yesterday, the thing that got me was that, having invented the game 170 odd years ago, we end up with players like Gordon and, even more so, Spence, playing in, supposedly, the best team the country can put out.
The of the game was atrocious, with the only entertainment coming from the theatrics of the clown Pickford. God knows what he was doing charging around, and out of, the penalty area.

Once again. How on Earth do you pick Gordon over Rashford? I admit I haven't watched enough of Rashford, but what I've seen of Gordon is so underwhelming. And who's running Barca, with these kind of deals?
