I've had many a gripe with Jones, but if we were to replace like for like in this market, we'd have to spend at least 3x times what we've been offered for Curtis. To find a homegrown midfielder with his level of experience for a cut price would literally be impossible.
He is a capable footballer, I would like to see him stay and hopefully Iraola can iron out his kinks.

The telling thing is who's willing to pay what for him. All the other clubs have analysts etc, and at face value, he seems cheap even with a short time left on his contract.
I'm surprised no one other than Forest have pitched in with the asking price, although at top six clubs he wouldn't be first choice, which is apparently why he's leaving.
Given his measured style of football, he's probably best suited to someone like Sunderland in the Prem, or in Italy or the Dutch League.

Rover, in my opinion, Chewy was spot on and his point went completely over your head, it would seem. He isn’t saying we’d intentionally look to replace Jones like for like. He’s pointing out that to get a player even of equal quality you’d have to spend 3 times the EUR25m we’ve allegedly been offered by Inter. The point was that it would be a huge financial hit to replace Jones with another homegrown player, or we’d take a hit on squad quality.
He is correct.
I do disagree with you partially, though, Chewy. Personally, I would sell Jones if a decent offer comes in (EUR30m+) and look to replace him with a player like Lamine Camara. He isn’t homegrown and he’s arguably not a better player than Jones, but he is the right profile of player to compliment our other midfielders and is allegedly available for circa EUR50m.

The Irish Rover! You seem confused so let me clear it up for you:
1. That wasn't an analogy.
2. Jones is 25, homegrown, dynamic and highly experienced. He's played a significant role in Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup title wins. To find a homegrown, dynamic squad player with that level of experience at his age for a fair price is incredibly difficult. Not to mention we seem to get shafted regularly on sales, if Jones was playing for Brighton his market value would be 100m.
3. The club is not going to sell Jones with the view of replacing him with somebody who costs 3x the price just to sit on the bench, that's moronic. You don't replace a squad player with a starter. My suggestion of replacing 'like for like' alludes to the aforementioned in point 2 and not the percieved level of skill one might attach to a player of a specific value.

Jones is dynamic? Not for me.
The point appears to be, don't pay three times the price we could sell Jones for but pay double.
For what he offers, I don't think we'd need to replace Jones if he is sold. Strengthen the midfield, but there's never been a time when Jones has regularly been a guaranteed starter.
He wouldn't need replacing.
