Stepping away from the transfer drama for a moment, Liverpool start the Iraola era tonight. Albeit it's a pre-season friendly.
What are the posters looking forward to seeing the most tonight?
Personally I am looking forward to seeing how we set up in and out of possession, and who of the young players takes the chance to impress Iraola.
All I am going to say regarding the transfer situation is that Iraola deserves to be backed, yes he is a highly regarded coach, but he is not a miracle worker.
Atm we are sending him to a gun fight with a plastic spoon!
I would say getting another CB in, should be top priority as it would give us that extra insurance, as atm of the 4 center backs, 2 are inexperienced, and 1 is injury prone.
VVD is looking at another season where we are asking him to play another 3000 minutes.
Gambling with our Center halves, we have all seen this movie before.

I'm looking forward to seeing more energy in the team, even though it's the first pre-season game. These games are a bit like a training session for the manager.

The youngsters. Young Abe on the right. Sonni Lambie might catch people's eye if he gets a run. The two CB's also. If they impress, we could finally move Joe Gomez on and get a better, more robust CB in.

Never in my life have I watched a Liverpool game looking forward to seeing how we set up in and out of possession.
I'm hoping to be excited by our play, and usually the adrenaline of scoring and winning a game, but as it's a pre-season friendly, don't really care about the result.

A style of play, any style of play. An identity of any sort would be a very welcome improvement to the previous 9 months of football.
Seriously though, I want to see a sense of urgency on the attack and a massive improvement in off-the-ball movement. If I see that, I know we're going in the right direction.

No injuries and more fitness for the players will do for me. A lot of players still away, ? hopefully, a couple of youngsters can shine so we can say how they'll be the next Virgil or Salah. ?

Tell you what though, JK23. Last pre season we had a massive hole in the middle of our team and opposition kept running straight through it.
I wasn't bothered.
But it was still happening up until the last game of the season. ?

Agree with Chewy, a defined style of play and steps to establish an identity. It's always great to see some new young faces from the academy getting their chance, but the emphasis for these first fee games is to set a precedent for how the team is going to play going forward.

I'm a self-proclaimed miserable git and, personally, I have no interest in pre-season friendlies. I hope we win, obviously, because if we lose there'll be posters calling for Iraola to be sacked. Regards to how we set up, etc., doesn't really interest me.
I will wake myself up for the Newcastle game, by which time we will have recruited well, because, if we haven't, we don't have a chance of doing anything this season, regardless of how good our new coach is.

We should definitely sign a defender and at least one more attacker this window. It's a bare minimum to have any chance of silverware.
Let's hope 1 to 2 youngsters stake their claim for first team football this season, specially McConnel, as it will reduce the need of signing a DM.
