A classic game of two half's to put it mildly. I really enjoyed the first half but the less said about the second half, the better.
Mamardashvili - 6
Made a fair few good saves, claimed a few crosses, and was quick throwing out to get us moving. Arguably could've done better with the long throws into his 6 yard box.
Frimpong - 7
His best performance so far this summer. Had quite a good partnership with Morrison down the right. Got a good assist and got up and down well.
Ndukwe - 4
Struggled. Nmecha and Calvert-Lewis bullied him. He was getting caught underneath the long throws every time. Lovely passing but all over the place defensively.
Chambers - 9
Bailed Ndukwe out multiple times. Scored a very well taken goal. Good carrying and forward passing. Left the pitch with us 2-1 up so not his fault at all. Man of the match in my opinion.
Kerkez - 5
Terrible delivery all game and he had a lot of crossing opportunities. He did defend very well 1v1. Decent flick for Liverpool's first goal, terrible flick for Leeds' first goal! Mixed bag.
Nyoni - 8
Another performance beyond his years. Controlled the tempo and played a lovely clipped pass over the top for our 2nd goal.
Szoboszlai - 9 & 5
First half he played in midfield with Nyoni and was fantastic (9). Second half he played behind the striker and was bordering on useless, looking very tired (5). He personified the whole teams performance. Maybe he is a box to box centre midfielder!
Morrison - 7
Really great performance defensively. His selfless running back towards his own goal is what released Frimpong to go forward. His final pass or decision making was the only thing his performance was lacking.
Wirtz - 8
Very good. Moved the ball quickly, found space well, pressed well and scored with a lovely crisp first time finish.
Rio - 7
Much better. Should've had an assist with a stunning ball that went right across goal. Decision making much better, releasing others on the overlap or under lap.
Isak - 7
Good hold up play, good link up play. He even pressed well. Nothing would drop for him but he was constantly involved.
Ramsay - 6
Positive forward running and good composure in possession. Wasn't at fault for any of the goals.
Ndiaye - 2
Dreadful. Passing was poor, lost everything in the air, and couldn't even get near to the Leeds attackers.
Tsimikas - 5
Weak passing and defending. Not directly at fault for any of the goals but was not helping with us regaining control at all.
Jones - 0
Can I give a negative rating? I wanted too. Absolutely disgraced the armband. Barely put in any effort, pulled out of a 50/50 with Longstaff for Leeds 3rd goal and didn't even try to challenge Calvert-Lewis for their 4th.
Gravenberch - 2
Weak, lazy and ineffective. At least he wasn't bottling out of his defensive duties like Jones, but he was miles off. Miles.
Scalon - 5
Ran into traffic and lacked end product. A left back playing right wing though, was always up against it. Worked hard defensively.
Elliott - 3
Poor passing, weak pressing, didn't track back. Shoddy set pieces as well. He looked busy but I'm just not sure what he was doing.
Koumas - 5
Terrible ball retention, but he did work very hard up and down the wing. Missed a sitter trying to use his right foot to lob the keeper when it was clearly needed to take it on his left.
Chiesa - 2
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't his fault entirely, but he barely touched the ball in 45 minutes. I'd hazard a guess he didn't touch the ball until close to the 70th minute.

It's games like these I'm glad we have, as it gives Iraola a clue as to who's going to step up and who to move on.

I mean we can whine about Jones till the cows come home - but, who is "getting stuck in" in a preseason game? I'm of the mindset he should be sold, and I don't even typically watch preseason, but this is a bit extreme.

I will hold my hand up and say I hadn't seen the tantrum he threw - not a good look. I still stand by it's just preseason, but that's childish behavior.

He should be playing for his future, TJred. I played a pre-season game this morning for my Sunday team and I got stuck in at every opportunity. Difference is, if I'd got badly injured I wouldn't have got top of the line next day surgery, nor would I have been paid in full for the time off work.
There's no excuse. When you're on the pitch, natural competitors play to win. Dom and Nyoni did. Jones and Gravenberch didn't. Games are won and lost in midfield.
That 2nd half was truly awful and it all stemmed from those two in midfield. I'm loathe to blame the two kids who ended the game at CB, even if they were shocking, because they're just that; kids.
Worst part is, Jones kicked off about wanting the armband 5 days ago. So he gets given it, then drops that performance? I've defended him a lot, but now I'd honestly take the money from Inter because that's the least effort I have ever seen a Liverpool player put in, in my life.

Plenty of them were getting stuck in, TjRed, the entire Leeds squad for a start.

Really impressed by Chambers this preseason. Could save us fortunes in the long run if Iraola keeps giving him more opportunities. Covers left back and centre back, and has senior games experience with his loan spells. It makes so much sense. Worked very well last time when Quansah was given the same opportunity, who has gone on to become a regular squad player for England.

That's true, MK, but also if you got injured it wouldn't prevent you from taking a new job on more money. It would for Jones.
03 Aug 2026 00:54:25
Thing is, TJ, Jones pulls out of those in competitive matches. This isn't something new. I stand by my view that he's a useless, tackle shy, soft lad who has no business in centre midfield. Bin him off and get someone in who isn't a liability.

Nevada, it definitely would, seeing as I'm a mechanical engineer! There's simply no excuse, once you cross that white line, not to give 100%. Jones was the only player on the pitch for either side bottling out of challenges and headers.

CyKlopps, I really like Chambers but I'd like to see him a bit more before making the claim he could be a valuable member of the 25 man squad. I've not seen much of him in recent years because he's been out on loan.
I watch a lot of the youth sides, but I draw the line at watching Kilmarnock, Wigan or Charlton! Klopp thought very highly of Chambers though, and I trusted Klopp's eye for a player above anyone's, so fingers crossed!

That'll be Curtis f***ed straight off to Italy. Possibly the worst I've ever seen him play. But at least he got to wear the armband
I actually thought Kerkez was pretty good. Nice overlapping with Rio.
I shree with the rest if your ratings though. It was especially nice to see the Isak, Wirtz, and Frimpong we were expecting last season.

0 to Jones is very kind, and 2 to Chiesa is too generous. Gravenberch, I can excuse because he exposed by himself with Jones, clueless pressing, and he does look fit enough just coming back from vacation.

Sorry, I don't care if it is a kick around with your mates, or a pre-season friendly, you pull on the shirt and give your all. No backing out of 50/50s, never ever pull out of a tackle (you're far more likely to get injured) and pass the ball to a team mate (with hopefully a better than 50% pass success).
Have some of you even played football outside of your living room or bedroom?
Our midfield trio, second half, did none of this. It was shameful and they looked like they didn't care one jot.
They didn't give the youngsters much to look up to. Terrible performance after a really positive first half.
