To be fairly honest. I hope we dont sign Minteh. The extent of his injury is a big unknown.
If this is the route we could have signed Kang Lee.
If PSG wont negotiate walk away and promote youth but dont burn money for last minute panic buys.
I know a winger is required but we are so weak in midfield and RB. We are doing same mistake here. Not realising the gap and chasing one guy for whole window.

Why do people talk as though the manager and club are idiots? Not having a go here cos I'm not excited by the move, but do you really think the club will be willing to bid £60m on a player without considering these concerns? Yeah, we have gotten a few transfers wrong but this doesn't feel like one of those to me, even though I feel we probably can do better.
The team must have assessed the injury and think it's worth the risk, plus the player isn't injury prone judging by his history.
I see the logic in the signing. We seem to be looking for a pressing machine who can also defend, and I think Minteh excels at these. Poor end product, but what if he turns out a banger of a signing? I will take Minteh over an overpriced and inexperienced Mbaye all day. Seriously, how come we prefer Mbaye over Minteh?

For those of you underwhelmed by or slagging off Minteh, I would guess that you are the same ones overhyping Rio Ngumoha into something he is not.
Minteh is faster, stronger, beats his man more easily and gets crosses into the box quicker and more often than Rio does. Add to that the fact that Minteh is also more tuned into the defensive aspect of the role, and you will understand that he is likely to bring out the best in Isak and Ekitike when he is fit.
I actually think Minteh was our first choice, but Mbaye came into the equation because we thought we could get him cheaper. Then PSG started asking ridiculous money for a teenager. We thought that if we're going to spend up to £70m, we may as well pivot back to our first choice.

Minteh beats his man more easily than Rio? Really? He can press and run a lot, which is maybe why the manager has given the go ahead on this. That and that were desperately short of rw. The reason I might prefer Mbaye over Minteh is because I haven't seen much of Mbaye, so he might be good enough, whereas I've seen a lot of Minteh, and I don't think he is technically good enough for a top team.

One dimensional step over winger at the moment and whilst he is very talented, his current set does not suit an Iraola side. Can he improve his defensive side and all round game quickly enough? Minteh and Barcola are going press machines.

Wow Kemlyn, to justify a new signing you'd rather break down a 17 year old kid... maybe he isn't that yet, but perhaps he will become it.
The modern fans' impatience and criticism of kids is beyond me. I do agree, people also build kids up too much and put too many expectations on them, but to use him as a stick to gauge a new 70mil signing on is a bit unnecessary.
How about you compare him to our other wingers... I'm not sure on Minteh, but is he a big upgrade on Chiesa? Absolutely.

You simply cannot spend 70m pounds!! on a player that's not going to be available till December because of injury, especially when you are already spending 120m pounds on another player that will also play in a similar position, when other areas in the squad need upgrades.
RB DM GK all have no real quality in squad.
We could add a RB and DM easily for that money, and squad depth would be much, much better.
Also, all this talk of Mbaye is dumb. We haven't even made a formal bid for him.
The only actual bid we have made to PSG is for Barcola and it's slightly more than what we paid for Ekitike (around 105million USD) and the ones we made for Minteh last couple of days.
All bids have been rejected.
I don't think we will pay 170million USD for Barcola.. but PSG are not moving at all from their valuation.
Minteh is panic buttons. If it were not, we would have signed him before Munoz when he wasn't injured and Brighton cud replace him.
The only real bid for Mbaye was from Leverkusen. All the Twitter people just talk out of their arse, adding things that never happened.

Jesus, it's so bloody negative on here. We're writing this lad off before he comes. All I see on here daily is people giving out, we have a small squad, we go to add a player, and people still giving out before he has even kicked a ball. Reading these comments daily would drain you. We've become as bad and as moany as Arsenal fans.

Out of interest, Red Willis, how often have you watched Minteh play?
I'm not saying you haven't watched him a lot, just interested to know.
I think I saw him 4 or 5 times last season, not watching him specifically, just watching Brighton play us and some of the other 'bigger' teams.
To me he seems like he can be a bit dangerous at times, but not someone you'd pick out as a massive threat (would say the same about Rayan personally).
Personally, I wouldn't be particularly excited or disappointed if he signed. I'd be very interested to see how he develops under our coaching team though, and would be mildly optimistic about what he could achieve.
I'm wondering what you've seen to make you think that he'd be a definite flop!

Minteh is perfect for Adonis set up - way more so than Rio. He is large, powerful unit with a potent engine which can run for days.
Both he and Mbaye are press machines, as is Barcola. Rio is an old school type winger who had little else to his game at the moment.
Minteh makes loads of sense and is more proven than Mbaye, who would be a punt. The issue is that Minteh will greatly reduce Rio's minutes once for whilst Mbaye would be on direct competition.

Minteh is not being signed instead of Barcola, he is being signed along with Barcola. If you said he was being signed instead of Mbaye, that would make more sense, but I somehow get the sense that we will be getting all three.
Also, while he is a good player, Kang In Lee and Minteh are completely different kinds of players. Lee is more of an inverted wide player who plays in the half space, kind of like Salah, a right sided number 10. We don't need another player like that, unless Iraola wants the width on the right side to come from the full back. Minteh is a right sided winger who loves going around the outside of the full back, plus he loves running in behind or running at his defender.
That is the profile of player we want to beat his man and get the ball into the box for our number 9.
Whenever I have seen Minteh, he has been a threat, he gets in dangerous situations all the time, but Brighton were not particularly good finishers last year, so his numbers dipped from the year previous. He has great qualities, but most importantly, he works extremely hard off the ball and presses very well. Has anybody considered that he has the attributes that Iraola might want?

Maybe the lack of excitement in the Minteh transfer is just because it all seems a little desperate.
We've been looking for a RW the whole window... and Mbaye was the one at some point, and now, it's Minteh... because we can't get Mbaye.
Maybe Mbaye stories were incorrect, and we just simply waited until the "nearly end" of the window to go for our target.
If we get him, I hope it works out well, like every other signing.
But for me, because IA made comments about bringing players in still, this all just seems very last ditch desperate from the club.

I'm not knocking down a young kid. Just stating a fact that Rio has been overhyped beyond belief, and those who can't see beyond the stepovers think we can actually challenge for the top trophies with him as a regular starter. I'm not saying he can't become a top player, just that he is not ready yet. He will get games, he will come off the bench and hopefully Iraola will improve his deficiencies and end product.
I am more having a go at those who don't understand what Minteh will bring, and they talk about him as if he is some donkey we are about to sign from non-league. When, in fact, he will offer more to the way Iraola wants to play than Rio at this moment in time.

That's fair, Kemlyn, makes sense. Yeh, Rio is both over hyped and over criticised for me. Beyond belief, though, is a bit much. He's still a 17-year-old kid playing in the Prem, which is much rarer these days, and was involved with the England squad, so the kid is clearly extremely talented. There's serious attributes there, if he knuckles down and keeps improving and doesn't believe the hype, for sure. Is he the finished article or ready to be our main man? Of course not, but without opportunities he never will.
Talent only gets you so far, of course.
I don't mind Minteh. Money is crazy, but it's gone mad in general, and his injury record worries me, but he does possess the raw attributes to make him a valuable squad player, and young enough to become much more than that. If we sign him, I'll support him for sure; if we don't, I won't be devastated, but let's give the kids a chance to make their own path!

Footy fan. I've seen Minteh play maybe 20 times over the last 2 seasons. I watch Brighton because they often have more fun games to watch than a lot of Premier League teams and because of fpl. I've posted a couple of times about Baleba on here; the season before last I thought there was a real player there. Time will tell on that one if he goes to United. I don't know how much Minteh can improve, but he will have to improve a lot, in my opinion, to be a player that starts for a club challenging for titles.
From what I have seen, his first touch often gets him into trouble and he loses the ball a lot. He crosses a lot, but mostly to nowhere, and his shooting is weak. If we pay 70 million for him, I think it's mad, but I hope I am wrong. If I am right, at least the fans will respect his industry, but I expect frustration with his lack of end product and poor first touch.
