Wow that was a big improvement tonight from the 1st game vs Newcastle. Brilliant to see the team pressing especially the 2nd half. Let's hope there's more of that to come, Barcola and Isak unlucky not to score too. Iraola starting to influence the style is amazing to watch after last season.
Toodles.
{Ed666's Note - work in progress still. I think well lose to the Arsenals and City’s of this world but the shoots of progress are hatching. I still don’t think we’ve got the art of pressing down to what AI had at Bournemouth but you can see the start of something promising .

It has been a promising start so far under AI for me Ed. At the very least, teams don't outrun us anymore and our players are covering way more distance than they did last season
{Ed666's Note - I actually can’t believe it when I see us counter attacking at pace I think my eyes are deceiving me. It’s early days the cohesion in the press isn’t perfect, final ball is sloppy, passes aren’t executed quick enough but it will organically improve and it’s ions better than last season where i was in a coma for 90 minutes watching slotball. To be fair Dracred it’s not hard to improve on our distance covered stats last year but I see your point it looks like we actually give a fukc this year.

I agree with you Ed666, but also the most important part is the players themselves are buying into what AI wants, no Liverpool fan will be bored this season, its been a decent start and AI himself seems to be embracing being the Liverpool manager.
{Ed666's Note - Yeh mate agree with all of what you said. I’m really liking AI the man. It seems he’s a decent guy with no ego and just wants what’s best for the club/team. He seems like a thoroughly nice person and those are the kind of people you want to be successful. I think when he has the personnel he needs and some time to bed his ideas in I think this guy will win us a premiership. I’ve actually written this season off so anything we achieve this season is gravy for me.

Agreed Ed, still gaping holes in our defense; the back lines too easily broken, we're far too casual around our own box, Kerkez is like a headless chicken and horrendously unaware at times, Virgils too happy to 'defend from a distance' for want of a better way of putting it.
I see top teams cutting us open at the moment, lucky we haven't had to face any in our opening few games.
{Ed666's Note - I don’t know whether facing City after the International break is a good or a bad thing. My expectations this season are pretty low, we’re not a premiership winning team at the moment and even if we buy in January it still won’t win us the title. Thats not pessimism it’s realism. I agree with you tho chewy there’s lots of stuff to be greatful for but will get taken apart soon because of our limitations.

It's nice to see an identity forming and the players seemingly buying into it.
{Ed666's Note - it’s like a hot chick being interested in you after years of no interest in you at all. You can’t actually believe your luck.

Iraola will win the PL with us once he has the players to do so. I have zero doubt of that. Currently as we all know we don't. Any team starting with Kerkez at LB and Frimpongadingdong at RB won't. Too many mistakes in them. I was totally sceptical about Araujo when he joined, but so far he's undoubtedly our first choice RB.
Hopefully he will stay fit and his previous issues are behind him. I like him. He's committed. Oh, and I believe that we have the beating of Citeh when they arrive. Onwards and upwards.

My goodness that was better. Rio much better. Macalister very good and showed why we bought him. Isak sharp and getting better by the game. Wirtz finding his way at last. And many other good performances.
And then there was Kerkez!! Touch of a baby rhino last night. Positional sense of a blind man. Goodness me sometimes he makes my blood boil, his concentration level is so poor. He really needs to wake up.
Was pooping myself when Isak & Barcola went down.
Overall out of my seat watching us play, which surely has to be the benchmark? Better than struggling to stay awake anyway.
Impeccable silence observed. YNWA

We beat City and Arsenal last year. Unbeaten against Arsenal. If we're at it, we can do so again.

Did you go last night, Rome? Decent atmosphere for Iraola’s first European night, I thought.
Wirtz ran his socks off. When he gets fully up to speed, he’ll be vital for us.
Up the reds!

Indeed, Ed. Happy about the win and about how Iraola's subs was in direct reaction to the ones Simeone made to nullify their impact. A very smart guy, indeed.
Still baby steps and many other things to improve on so let's stay humble and keep working hard.
Hope BB is fine and him pulling up is not too serious. We go again.
{Ed666's Note - yep agreed mate. On BB his class is evident. The speed, guile and movement. He’s gonna be a big player for us you can just tell.

Agreed Ed, I'm a realist myself, and all too often get mistaken for pessimistic by those that live in the clouds. There's plenty to be excited about; the style of football is much more akin to what we're used to; the press is improving, the counter is quicker, the play is more open, it's much more enjoyable to watch, but at the same time there's no point in ignoring the obvious issues.
I never like big games after an international break to be honest, but I am glad we'll have had a few under our belt before City, I'll take that trade-off all day. At the very top, the difference of just 1% is a country mile, and we're a half marathon off Arsenal at the moment, it's a harsh but fair truth at the moment.
I've always felt that the main goal for this season has nothing to do with trophies, it's about seeing evident progression in the development of our style, in the relationships between the players, and their (new) roles as they adapt to Iraolas implementation. If we see all that continue to improve throughout the season I'll be content to scrape Champions League again. A year and a half of bad coaching can't be undone overnight.
{Ed666's Note - super post and couldn’t agree more.

Sorry for the late reply, LFC8. Yes, was there last night. Lower Main Stand. Nightmare getting in, as late getting there, due to coach driver taking wrong turning. Just managed to sing last few lines of YNWA. I'm looking forward to many more nights of CL football this season. Hopefully.
