If we can get Salah, VVD and Gakpo off the wages that is almost 1M a week saved and we would not be far off from where we are today without any replacements.

Hindsight taken into account, I think club succumbed to pressure to hand out VVD and Salah new contracts.

It all fell apart as soon as the new contracts were rolled out.

Never will know the what if we let them go and signed replacements where would be.

Of the 3 u have named, only 1 I would sell in summer is Salah. Last chance to get a good fee for him. If he was willing to be a rotation option, u could make an argument for keeping him, but that won't happen.
I'm going against the grain with Gakpo, as I believe he is a v good player to have in the squad, can cover 3 positions, and there is always a goal in him.

He has had a poor season, but he is not on his own there. Probably not good enough to start week in week out, but v useful to have as 4th choice attacker.
Not a chance in hell would I sell Vvd, still head and shoulders your best defender, and his availability is unreal.

Why would we sell Vvd? He's still the best defender at the club by some margin and can still play. Some odd error ain't dissuading me from that fact. Until we have a capable manager, I'll refuse to criticise any of them.

Another ridiculous post about money.
Just because we save 1m a week, it definitely does not leave us far off from where we are now.

Vvd is still one of the best Cb out there, but yes, let's get rid of him to save a buck.

Gakpo, not everyone's cup of tea, but maybe if he had some competition for his position, people would be speaking differently of him.

Mo is Mo... age has caught up with him, unfortunately. Still lots to offer if we could maybe change his role.

On Gakpo, far too predictable, one-footed, and well and truly worked out by the opposition. Also, 3rd choice centre forward on his best day. At £200k per week (reported), far too expensive to be a versatile back-up. Could probably command a decent fee.

Selling him in the summer is the ultimate no-brainer.

Gakpo, yes. Vvd & Mo, not yet, both have been way off, but you can't buy experience. The Rios and Nyonis of this world have no one better to look up to as a model pro. Yeh, Mo has dropped off this season.

Let's see what he's like in a team that plays quicker, and the opposition have more than one player at a time to defend against. He has earned the right to end his career here. Crap or not.

Like the man said 'Let's not talk about finances.'

07 Mar 2026 12:44:19
Vvd still top class. Frode, so every poor player performance this season is because of Slot? And people call me deluded.

07 Mar 2026 13:12:23
Vvd easily still top 5 CBs on the planet. Imo still the best even if there has been a drop off.

07 Mar 2026 15:57:30
Definitely Gakpo and Salah to go.

07 Mar 2026 16:38:38
By this logic, why don't we just sell all our players and save millions each week!

07 Mar 2026 17:45:31
I think I have been watching a different Vvd. There is zero leadership from Vvd this year. He is a yard slower at 400k a week. 4 goals conceded this year because of his individual mistakes. No, he is no longer the world's best defender.

You folk should not be such red tinted. If an offer is available for Salah, Vvd and Gakpo we should take it and run, and I think that's why we gave them 2 year extensions - so we can get something in case it doesn't work.

I never care about the wages when it comes to Virg. And Salah for that matter. The way I see it is they have earned every penny. They could have been earning much more at other clubs for the bones of a decade, but stayed loyal to us.

Both all-time 11'ers. In Virg's case, if we just got him a top partner, he could play for years yet.

07 Mar 2026 21:35:59
Agreed, Florian. Both have earned their current salaries.
Vvd could still play for a while, especially if he has the right partner. Salah has earned the right to choose. He's such a professional that he's a great influence.

From that perspective, my concern is, if he didn't start as regularly, would he be a hindrance? But part of me thinks if we signed a young winger like Diomande, as an example, he would be perfect for 1 more year.
