hi eds

I know you have explained the situation with benteke a million times and liverpool know what they have to do to get him etc.

the news today they have triggered the "release clause". do you know if its true or rumours?

great job

cheers

Luke0123

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has agreed to pay a price that is acceptable to Aston Villa so it is effectively in the hands of the player to consider his options.}

1.) 16 Jul 2015 14:47:02
Your man in Belgium spot on Ed2

2.) 16 Jul 2015 15:42:06
Options as in:
- stay at Villa
- move to Man Utd
- move to LFC
Ed002 - would the above be Benteke's options as you understand it?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

3.) 16 Jul 2015 15:42:11
Youve been bang on with this ed right from the start mate. You said you expect us to get a deal done and its now nearly done. Looking forward to having him in our shirt.

4.) 16 Jul 2015 15:52:18
Cheers for the reply eds

Much appreciated

5.) 16 Jul 2015 17:01:43
Way over priced, a decent injury prone player. Could be Andy Carroll all over. He played best for Villa when Sherwood adopted the "all crosses and long balls straight into Benteke" tactics. Liverpool don't tend to play a direct style, arguably we play more like the Belgian national team, on the deck, where Benteke has been nothing short of useless.

6.) 16 Jul 2015 17:57:34
No comparison with Andy Carroll. Benteke has actually scored consistently in the PL! None of us know if he will be a success or not but writing a player off before he has even signed on the dotted line. makes me wonder what the hell happened to the "proper" Liverpool fans who actually gave a player a chance!

7.) 16 Jul 2015 18:09:09
49 goals in 101 games in a not great villa side, give the kid a chance ffs

8.) 16 Jul 2015 18:38:47
@sean he's a proven premier league striker what more do u want???
Hes the best we can get and our owners are dipping into their pockets again!!
If we offload the players we need to and sign medel we will get top 4

9.) 16 Jul 2015 19:33:22
Ed002 you wrote earlier that his options weren't to stay at villa, join liverpool or join man utd! Are his options stay at villa or join liverpool? Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Or see what other options might crop up - Spurs has previously shown interest and his agent has approached a couple of other sides - but I rather fancy Liverpool can get this through.}

10.) 16 Jul 2015 23:35:02
Seanthered, he may not be a Suarez but if I remember correctly Benteke, Grealish and Delph cut us apart in the FA cup semis through sharp (on the ground) build up play rather than long balls into the box.

Benteke is not another Carroll and if we put Coutinho, Llalana and Firmino around him and he'll score plenty even if he's not exactly our 'style'.

11.) 17 Jul 2015 08:16:41
I am not a fan of this signing, 32.5 mil is a lot aswell!! But if it comes off, I hope to god I am proven wrong.

If he ends up wearing the LFC shirt, he gets my full support anyway.

OH MY GOD. Some fans are just never happy. ok we didn't play to our best yesterday and didn't blow stoke out of the water but we WON THE GAME. look at arsenal yesterday or chelsea on saturday. even utd needed a ridiculous own goal to win it. Stoke away has always proved a difficult game for us. even when we where at our best with suarez we still had to work hard for the win. my god i would hate to see the posts if we drew yesterday or were beaten. its three points, boosts morale in the dressing room. clean sheet also that gives the defence a huge lift. thought the defence where pretty solid compared to what they were last season. lovern was dominant in the air, worked pretty well with skrtel. i do beleive we need a dm in the team especially when we play the bigger teams but come on guys.a win against bournmouth nxt monday sets us up nicely going into the arsenal game. i'm sure everyone woulda taken 6 points going into the arsenal game at the start . stop nit picking at everything and get behind the team.

Totally agree with you, after losing 6-1 last season we were never going to come out guns blazing, plan was probably keep it tight and break whenever possible, with all the new signing it will take around 10-15 games before you will see a settled first 11, as probably a player most of us wouldn't pick might surprise is all, so all we can do is be patient and hopefully keep picking points up, if not then the manager has to be held accountable

2.) 10 Aug 2015 18:49:42
Lfc

Even if the plan was to hold tight y do you field a poor team on the pitch. His ignorance of playing two B2B midfielder in the holding role proves what?

Play a proper team and ask them to defend.

3.) 11 Aug 2015 00:28:28
EG on the money again. In fact, you need a DM to keep it tight especially vs a team who are inferior to the one that gave us a hiding the last time. He messed up but rectified it. A manager should be proactive and not wait till the 60th minute to make the change. I saw Monaco vs Nice on Sat and when Monaco went down a goal, the manager made two tactical changes by the 36th minute. Result? Monaco won. Nuff said!

Let sterling go to city. If he doest wanna play for our club, let him go. I don't wish anything bad on the guy. Just an example of someone badly advised and no loyaly to a club who will offer him a lot more for his development aswell as great pay.
. I can see his game time been limited with city compared to the game time with us, his delvepment will suffer as he is far far from been any sort of the complete player and because of that could it turn out to be another Scott sinclair/ jack Rodwell scenario. Will see him in two or three yrs playing for a Sunderland or Swansea.

As a United fan I quite like Sterling but he is nowhere near the finished article. If City are going to stump up the best part of £45M you should bite their hand off. Clearly his agent is bad news and he is being badly advised but I think going to a local club won't help him either. City have a track record of buying young English players and then leaving them in the reserves and ruining their careers.

Hi all. does anyone agree. Why is the defence not been seriously looked at. Two seasons ago we had sturridge and suarez scoring for fun. Looking back on games it was a " u score, we score type of thing "we conceded but still scored. all is wellas we get three points. Then last season we lose suarez ( Barcalona) and sturridge (injury). Lose the goals but still conceed. I know we brought in lovern who I like but hasn't worked out, ( although I hope he does come good). But seriously skrtel is not up to it and sakho, although a decent tackle in him. He makes my heart skip a beat when he's on the ball. Does he suit the ( bringing the ball out from the back style br likes to play) then there's kolo who's heart is In the right place but not the defender he was. apologies on the rant but I'd like to see us look at the defence side of things instead of buying a million midfielders. I hope I'm wrong and lovern steps up this season and forms a serious partnership with sakho or skrtel. Even the boy illori if br gives him a chance. Cheers guys. Ynwa

Luke0123

1.) 11 Jul 2015 06:29:37
You got it wrong about Sakho.Of all the defenders he is the one capable to play from the back.We need a def mid to shield the defence also provide an outlet option to the defenders, which we lacked last season.

2.) 11 Jul 2015 07:26:52
Indian is absolutely right in my view , we last played a true DM in 2010 ( not someone just filling in )and unless we recruit one this summer we will ship another 50-odd goals next season .

3.) 11 Jul 2015 07:29:05
We had a DM, BR just chose to play gerrard there instead of him. It's hardly a mystery why we conceded so many.

4.) 11 Jul 2015 08:25:31
luke123,fully agree with what your saying but the proof of the pudding is in the eating,BR has not got a clue about defending that's why most of his players are attack minded, the coaches are all attack minded,BR believe's that we don't need a DM and if we keep the ball and move it around the opposition can't hurt you.but somewhere in the game the opposition will have a ten minute period were they can hurt you, there' no guarantee that a DM would stop the goals going, but they would break up the play before the attacks begin, some of are defenders couldn't break wind. you would of thought BR being a BYT would of known this. imposter.

5.) 11 Jul 2015 08:30:06
Swish

The same Gerrard who was outstanding picking up Suarez and Sturridge when we played the diamond.
Lucas would never replicate half of what Gerard is offensively in that position.

6.) 11 Jul 2015 10:04:57
May as well play Gerrard in goal then Harry? He can certainly kick the ball out better than migs

7.) 11 Jul 2015 10:36:04
Shanek

I am sorry but you don't get the actual point.
If you play a true DM like Matic, Busquets or Lucas you need a ball playing creative mid along with them to dictate.
We tried this with Allen and was a disaster. Who else would you want us to partner?
The reason Gerrard was deployed at the pivotal role was due to the excellent range of passing abilities he possess.

We don't have an Alonso and exactly the club looking at Koviacic. We don't have a Xavi, Pjanic, Fabrigas so we simply cannot play 2 men midfield.

Henderson like Vidal is a B2B player whether you like it or not.

8.) 11 Jul 2015 11:07:53
Euro we picked up far more points with Lucas playing in the DM role than we did with gerrard. So whatever you think Gerrard was doing offensively it wasn't as good as what Lucas was doing defensively. The few games we lost when Lucas played were mainly the ones when he wasn't played in the DM role.

9.) 11 Jul 2015 23:09:45
SG is an AM and Lucas is a DM so comparing them in the offensive category is a poor excuse at bashing Lucas hence, your point makes no sense, Boom.

29 Jun 2015 22:24:23
Talking about higiuan!!! I can't see it happening ever.
Or any big name striker. I just don't think we can attract the big name players anymore eds. Look at sanchez last yr. Did we not bid more than arsenal?. He chose them. I'm not in the know on the mikataryan, Salah etc deals but was this the same. They didn't see us as attractive as dortmund or chelsea. Who are champions league regulars, well up till last season for dortmund. to see the likes of benzema, cavani, higiuan, diago costa, etc coming to us if available is just hard to see. i'm a Liverpool fan all my life and love this club to bits but the likes of benteke is where we are at.

Luke0123

1.) 29 Jun 2015 22:47:43
I see your point mate but what about Firmino? one of Brazil's best players has just signed for us despite lots of reported interest from around the globe.

I think a lot of players will see beyond one bad season. There will always be those who find other places more attractive but this is the same for any club, you just have to choose your targets wisely.

2.) 29 Jun 2015 23:19:04
Lol he is not one of Brazils best players

3.) 29 Jun 2015 23:26:34
Very true mate on firmino but I'm just worried it is another player who clearly has potential but still raw an Unproven . Aka markovic, .I know Rodgers is to blame on not giving game time to markovic so will he do the same with firmino. my point is when I have the likes of benzema, cavani, higiuan in your team u no they are well established proven world class strikers who has been there done that and I think when it comes to a player like that we are finding it hard to get them. I fear we are turning into a team that will bring in the young talent and if they become a success sell them on.

4.) 30 Jun 2015 00:08:06
I think there's no reason Liverpool can't attract top players with a top coach and paying the competitive wages, but obviously we need to build. I like the young side we have now and with a few years together under a top coach I think 2-3 years time will be really competitive (Clyne, Illori, Sakho, Moreno, Can, Hendo, Coutinho, Ibe, Firmino etc. ), I just wish we'd gotten in a coach we all felt could be the future as much as the players.

5.) 30 Jun 2015 07:09:53
In fairness to the Sanchez deal quoted, the story I recall was not that Sanchez turned down LFC for Arsenal, more that Sanchez's girlfriend told him London over Liverpool.

Looking at Man Utd last year, Man City's rise to power it appears to be a "pay them and they will come". Now to pay them, we need to comply with FFP etc.

Liverpool can compete, but history does not appear to be work for people of today who have grown up watching Man Utd and more recently Chelsea dominate the last 25 years (with a splash of the gunners). Need to spend more to attract more proven / more marketable stars.

6.) 30 Jun 2015 07:42:03
Don't think I would want benzema, cavani, higiuan, diago costa,

Although you didn't say this but its Quite amusing so many people saying oh bent eke doesn't fit our style yet if one of these signed they would be over the moon, Benzema, Higuain and specially Cavan are really lazy strikers come in and out of games all the time - Yes they score but we do like to press high and trust me these players would not give you that

Hi eds

Long time reader first time poster.
I no a lot of speculation has been going around different players but just heard area turans agent claiming he wants to leave Spain for the epl and they are talking to three premier league teams

Any knowledge on this and who the teams might be?

Cheers

Luke0123

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

1.) 24 Jun 2015 16:12:11
Just searched there and saw your previous comments on turan. Looks like it utd or arsenal. Pity as he a good player and a lfc fan from what I hear.

Cheers for the reply.

2.) 24 Jun 2015 16:47:39
Why, did someone just sort out our defensive issues and sack the manager?

I totally agree . sakho is better at one on ones maybe but lovern and skrtel are better with the ball . sakho looks awkward , seems to panic when in a tight spot, and sometimes tries back heels or flicks to get him outa trouble which can be seriously dangerous so close to goal and as for his pass completion record. its easy when u not under pressure to pass side to side ,back to the keeper , or simple into midfield. that can make your pass stats look good.

Luke0123

{Ed001's Note - so you say Sakho doesn't play easy passes, then try and claim that easy passes inflate his stats. Odd.}

agree totally with you red rum. some people are not happy unless they are moaning and giving out.
get behind the lads like you are suppose to as fans and stop giving out. if sakho wants to leave let him leav. we have enough cover there. let him throw his toys out of the pram, sell him, get some funds for him and put ilori in until january.give the young man a chance and assess the situation at xmas for a new cb if need be. problem solved

We would be in a far off worse place without fsg. they are bringing back some sort of stability financially within the club after the mess the two cowboy muppets left us in. They have forked out cash for signings which they promised and Also to get the development going on the stadium (which they also promised)I'm sure they couldn't be doing that if things where so bad.
