Anyone hoodwinked into thinking we will sign caiceido must be bonkers, I wouldn't trust this fsg too pull a rabbit out the hat, it stinks of us trying to play Chelsea at there own game with them bidding for lavia and we are calling there bluff to see how the domino's fall.

What would be the point in that, though?

This seems to pop up every transfer window - someone bids on a player to force another teams hand. I genuinely cannot see why anyone would think that would happen. Why would Liverpool mess Brighton about just to wind Chelsea up? - why would we want to wind Chelsea up?

It's simple - if we want Lavia, we need to pay the money. If we want Caicedo, we need to pay the money. exactly the same for Chelsea.

Look i have PTSD when it comes to liverpool and transfers, from the early 90s to this present day an this FSG have not helped my symptoms at all in fact hightened them. No one will be as giddy as me if we sign caiceido and the idiot in me is thinking maybe alexis mcalliater could be key. First the bid has to be accepted and caiceido himself has to be content signing for us, the most interesting thing is he and brighton want it sorted by end of today so we will see if we are firing blanks again.

Maybe we won't sign Caicedo but if we've declared an interest with Brighton it will be because we're genuinely interested. Not because Chelsea bid for Lavia and we want to get back at them. These are professional football clubs, not children squabbling in a playground.

I'm still in the camp where i don't really care about signing another midfielder. We had 2 good spells last season. A) when Thiago and Bajcetic played together in a double pivot with an AM ahead of them and B) when Trent tucked in as a hybrid midfielder to over run the midfield with the box formation and Jones came back from injury to play in one of the advanced roles.

As far as i can see Thiago, Bajcetic, Jones and Trent are still at the club so the players who were key to the only effective midfield combinations we put together are still here. On top of those 4 we've also signed Szoboszlai and Mac Allister. And on top of that we still have Morton, Clark, Elliott and McConnell as squad players for the Cup games. So with 9 midfielders plus Trent in the hybrid role I'm failing to see the need for panic. Schmadtke and Klopp will have their reasons for wanting to sign another midfielder. Maybe the intention is to sell or loan Morton in which case a DM is probably needed.

Ultimately though we got our critical business done early and that was replacing Keita and Ox with some attacking midfielders who can stay fit and lead the press. Fabinho and Hendo leaving has thrown a spanner in the works in DM for sure but i think the only reason why we look light in that area is because Bajcetic, Thiago and Morton missed pre-season and they're our 3 best DM players. Hendo and Fab were ineffective for over 12 months anyway though so a more experienced and physically grown Bajcetic will be a big upgrade and let's not forget he hasn't played alongside Trent in the box before, which i think will really suit him as it grants him a bit more positional freedom and puts less pressure on him to break up play alone.

If by some chance we sign Caicedo then this transfer window would turn from being one of the most frustrating to perhaps the best in EPL times.

I wouldn't call it a "frustrating" window yet, but it's certainly incomplete, for now. The quick captures of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai made us all think that given the departure of 7-8 players, at least 4 or 5 would come in. And now even this has some doubters because we're stuck on purchase #3 and maybe no others will be bought after that. Shouts of "full rebuild" have subsided like a wet firecracker. I just want a proper DM to be brought in. Otherwise it's going to be one torturous season once again.
