Read through the posts and am seeing a sentiment that aligns with my thoughts regarding our bad results last week and want to see what people think:

Slot has obviously been way better than we could have hoped this season, but I feel like he has to take responsibility for the two results. Granted we have a small squad and the players are tired, but Slots job is to manage the fatigue. I know they were two big games, but I think it was a mistake not to rotate or sub quicker which is down to Slot. (Not even going to get into the complete lack of a plan for set pieces which should also be Slots responsibility. ) We have players who can make a difference, or at least do a job, waiting for minutes so why aren't they playing? I know it's hindsight, but even if you don't rate those players and think they would have lost us the game if they had played because Slot had rotated/ subbed sooner, the end result would be the same, but our first choice squad would just be more fit now.

So you all agree it's down to Slot or am I missing something obvious here?

Agree4 Disagree0

Surely all results, positive and negative are ultimately down to the manager?

That's a fair assessment snuggle and I do agree that some of the fault lies with Slot. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the players would tire after playing 5 high intensity games in 15 days so he should have rotated the squad and given them more rest in between. However, the fact that he feels he only has that handful of players that he can trust should also be scrutinised from a transfers pov since it does indicate that he has not yet been fully supported on that front.

Btw, just a small point regarding the set piece, we did have a plan albeit not a very good one. Slot explained what we were trying to do there and it didn't work out for us. Having a bad plan isn't the same as having no plan.

Slot was part of a poor week, so were the players.
LB and RB were punished on Sunday both poor, midfield was second best for 90 mins we need a high energy addition desperately.
Salah didn’t show up again in a final and Jota/ Nunez are not up to standard. That’s why we lost!

Klopp rotated a lot more especially last season in the Europa league where in some games We made as many as 8 changes.

It was at this exact point last season where we lost 4-3 to Utd in the fa cup and the wheels came off a little and fatigue on Klopps announcement somewhat 9 weeks earlier became the issue.

19 Mar 2025 06:46:44
Man City won the treble essentially using 20 players. Do their players not suffer from fatigue?

19 Mar 2025 06:55:11
Slot himself said, just a few weeks ago, that he wanted this season to assess the existing playing squad. I get we all want shiny new toys but when the manager himself has likely had an influence in the transfer activity I think we need to stop claiming that he hasn’t been supported in that regard.

Great shout Irish.

Bringing his Pub league rotation methods to the big boys party was not particularly clever, and smacks of stubborness.
Klopp gave players a chance to shine, (Divock) and often they showed up.
Teams started marking Gravenberch - its not only down to tiredness, and whilst brilliant, skillfull and potentially world class he is not the toughest of players.
The league is not a foregone conclusion, looking back at the two 'almost' seasons we had under Klopp, it is around now that the collapse tends to take effect.
Slot needs to change things up and grind results out.

"Pub league rotation methods" - comedy gold.

Given the workload gravenberch has to get through every game I don't think we can put it down to him not being tough enough when he's targeted and not allowed to play through the middle in games, slot needs to find other solutions given how important him and szoboszlai are to the way we play. Szoboszlai covers every inch of the pitch sprinting from the first second to the last against city and then is asked to do it a few days later, gravenberch constantly has to cover vast amounts of space, even the fittest players will find it difficult to cope game in game out.

Slot has found a way to keep our key players fit and a style that doesn't have them making as many sprints in games, but when the games come thick and fast the players who are tasked with doing the most off the ball, Diaz, szoboszlai, gravenberch, will eventually start to break down. It didn't help us that getting in the league cup final and having the Everton game postponed meant that our two week break from European action had us playing two intense league games instead.

It was telling in the Newcastle game that our route b- launching the ball up the field for the likes of szoboszlai to win, was so completely useless, when we can't build up through the middle because we are being pressed high and swarmed in midfield and we can't win second balls and duels up the pitch we are completely screwed.

It's been a combination of bad luck with players like Elliott and chiesa picking up injuries at bad times and not getting in slot's rotation early, fixtures being rearranged, getting a bad draw with psg despite topping the group, tired first teamers not giving us enough of an advantage in league games to get slot to consider taking them off at the hour mark, etcetera leading to this unfortunate drop off.

Did Liverpool ever get beaten when Jurgen was in charge?

Did Jurgen have a first 11 that didn’t change much say, Ali, TAA, Joel M, VVD, Robbo, Hendo, Fabs, Gini, Sadio, Bobby and Mo?

Joe G when Joel was injured and Millie when anybody else was injured.

As the French would say (albeit in French), ‘the more things change, the more they stay the same’.

{Ed001's Note - what is this gibberish? Just a load of nonsense.}

Irish: I've admittedly not checked down the stats here, but you kinda are making the same point I am when you bring up city: city have a super expensive well rotated squad. We don't have 20 players who have had significant minutes now or under klopp either. If you take our starting 11 and the players who have rotated in jota, Nunez, Jones, Elliot, Endo, Bradley, tsimi, Gomez that's 18 players and some of those have hardly played.

The point is our rotation is poor. People say Slot must not trust the squad, but the question is why? I personally don't see why he shouldn't trust them more so my original point is that it seems like Slot is making a mistake here, and I think it's at least cost us a cup as we should be beating Newcastle (PSG were obviously quality) .

Along those lines, I would be very irritated if some of these players are sold because Slot doesn't trust them when they have a lot to offer in my opinion: Elliot, Jones, Endo, and Gomez (maybe even Nunez although he's not had a good year) should be trusted more and not sold IMO.

It is Slot's first season. He'll be learning a lot about the EPL and what he needs to do differently next year to stay sharp towards the business end of the season.

Some pent up aggression there Ed01. As a person with an astute eye for football tactics you are worth listening to. The rest of the time ….

The point I was making is that the overwhelming majority of the time Klopp played the a very settled starting 11, as does Slot. Not sure that is gibberish but everybody is entitled to an opinion, no matter what the validity or language used. I believe you commented on me not supporting this site financially a while back - perhaps your childish, petulant attitude goes someone to providing an explanation. I’ll ask you a question though. If you made it a subscription site how many do you think you’d have on here, particularly now that Ed02 has very sadly passed away.

{Ed001's Note - you have no eye for pent up aggression clearly. What a bizarre take from 2 sentences. It is not me who spends my time just attacking everyone else's comments, I think you need to look in the mirror for where the pent up aggression is.

Love the way you ended it to show just what a despicable piece of scum you really are. Such a shame that complete pricks think that it is ok to use someone's passing as a weapon to attack with. Just showing your level now. I have never commented on you supporting the site financially in that way, again just shows what kind of person you are that you jump to that conclusion. My point has always been that people should remember that the site is free and so will not be perfect, so always bear that in mind when things are not as you want them to be.

By the way, how many times did that eleven you named play together as an eleven?}

20 Mar 2025 11:17:13
“A despicable piece of scum” eh? What a small minded, judgemental little prick you are. Your level is writing a couple of hundred words about a football match. As for your non-football stuff you just regurgitate bits and pieces you’ve read from original sources and you pass your plagiarism off as if it were something you’ve thought up.

You also have a selective memory- you did indeed “take me to task’ for not contributing financially - check back through the post archives - and you failed to answer the question about making it a subscription service. My guess is the number of people who would put up with your nasty comments whenever you disagree with someone would be less than the number of times that the 11 starters I suggested actually played together.

{Ed001's Note - plagiarism? I don't copy, no idea where you get that idea from. You are just showing what kind of person you are so thoroughly. As for me being judgemental, I am not the one using the death of someone's friend to attack them with. You really a vile person who is very welcome to leave and never come back, thanks.

As for subscription service, why would I care? I have no intention of making it a subscription service, it is free and that is the way is should be, like the entire internet. You really have no idea what you are talking about, I read thousands of posts a day across the sites, yet I barely comment, even though I disagree with most of them. You really need a mirror, hypocritical as you are, maybe you might spot it then.}

20 Mar 2025 22:14:40
For the record, what I actually said was that the quality of information on the board has suffered greatly since the very sad passing of Ed02. That is just a fact.

If you, or anybody else, see that as an attack on you in some way then they are mistaken.

Let’s be really, really clear, I would never use the death of a person as a ‘weapon’ against anyone and I apologise sincerely that what I wrote gave you cause to think it was the case.

As for the rest, the pathetic dig about not contributing financially, the pent up aggression when somebody has the temerity to disagree with you and the presentation of other people’s work either by passing off thoughts as original or just plain plagiarism - I stand by my distaste and dislike.

{Ed001's Note - what are you talking about plagiarism? I don't do that at all, you are a liar. I write out all my research on paper to ensure I can't just copy and paste anything. So I have no idea what you are talking about. You can't really be stupid enough to think I am trying to present posts written by others that go on the football-news-views site as my own? They clearly have the author on the bottom of the article and the link is only posted via my account as it is my site.

And you clearly mentioned Ed002 as a dig, which is using it as an attack, otherwise why even mention him?

I still have no idea what you are talking about contributing financially. How could you even contribute? The site is free. You really have issues. You are seeing things based on your own mindset, thankfully I am not like you. I am not stupid enough to continue to troll a site I have such clear disdain for starters. You could just go elsewhere.}
