This site is a microcosm of Anfield, yesterday! Some would like to see Trent hung from the rafters of The Kop (I'm exaggerating), some wish him well and some, like me, are indifferent. Personally, I have never, nor would I ever, boo one of our own while they wear the shirt, however, I respect the view of those that do. Unfortunately, yesterday it destroyed the atmosphere, because we needed the full support of the crowd to lift a tepid 2nd half performance.

I think moving forward to the next 2 games it's in everyone's best interest that Trent doesn't feature. What I would hate to see happen, is what should be an end of season party and celebration at the end of the Palace game, being marred by supporters focusing on one solitary player instead of cherishing something we've waited 35 years to cherish. Who knows how long we might have to wait for the next time.

{Ed025's Note - spot on for me Rome..

Couldn't have been said any better Rome mate doesn't matter who it is they should never be booed when they have that shirt on don't know if it's a immaturity thing or what but it has no place at our club or any club for that matter.

Spot on Rome. I think for all parties dropping him is the best option, saves becoming an unnecessary distraction. Whoever advised him to make the announcement with games to go has advised him badly, he had plausible deniability up until that point.

There won't be a long wait we will win the league next season on the premise we buy a striker minimum.

Great post Rome.

Hopefully streaming figures aren't down next week which could effect our transfer war chest in the summer.

You could argue that he deserves more respect because of the boos. He obviously predicted it and waited until the League was won before announcing his decision, so not to ruin atmosphere in the ground while we had trophies to play for.

The video from him should never of come before the end of the season, not sure what there was to achieve with it, this was bound to happen, some hate him now, some wish him luck, personally i think he has known for a while what he was doing and should of let the club know so to sell him, i hope we don't make the same mistake with Konate and offer him a deal, if he doesn't sign we should learn and sell him now, use the money FOR Huijsen.

Whilst I’m not siding with the boo boys here I can fully understand why so many see it as a betrayal - TAA will cost a significant amount of money to replace like for like, maybe £50-£70m, and the supporters see him leaving for nothing with a big signing on fee as taking the urine. Money is everything in football these days and here we’re losing a world class (in our system) player for absolutely zilch which doesn’t help the club in any way.

As I recall McManaman was also on the receiving end of jeers when he did the same in 1999.

12 May 2025 12:12:51
Huijsen coming in for konate is not an upgrade, they don't have the same sort of skill set and won't perform the same kind of function. If we replace konate we'd need to find somebody with his monstrous physicality and mobility while being great in the air, which huijsen is decidedly not. Huijsen would be a replacement for Virgil, a ball playing progressive defender next to an ibou type defender who can cover the wide channels, win duels and mop up in behind.

Huijsen is heading to Real Madrid. The kid wants to go there. we need to move on to other targets. I expect Konate to run his contract down.

Completely and utterly agree with you Rome. I sit between the indifferent and sad to see him go camp, but I could never ever boo our own whilst wearing the shirt (if he comes back in seasons to come wearing white, fair game) .

We don't, and most likely will never, know the full story, but I do wish he had confirmed before the Jan window so we could have got some thing. But, maybe he did and, competing on 4 fronts, the club and Slot decided he was worth more in the team than the £20m+ in the bank, who knows?

Unfortunately, I can see Huijsen going somewhere else as I agree we need the physicality of Konate and I can't see Huijsen playing second fiddle. I think a flexible combination of defenders would probably be best. If Geertruida is available to move again, he could provide backup to Bradley and replace Konate, Frimpong could also provide backup to Bradley and Salah too, and Hato would be a good option at LB to rotate with Robbo as well as learn from VVD to ultimately replace him. I would probably bring in one more young CB too, not sure who (Huijsen would be ideal, but like I said he probably wants to start every week)

Sell Konate (on the basis that he does not sign an extension), Tsimikas and either Gomez or Quansah - I'd probably go for Quansah as I just don't think he will make it (quite) .

Love it Rome ?.

Only 2 players iv ever booed . n that's the 2 judas's named Trent n Macmanaman. people esp on here but not in Liverpool mainly think the same as me . most are gutted not that he's leaving but leaving on a bosman . sick of talking about him on here . but while his fan club keep supporting him il continue to call him out . iv never been a fan anyway of him. all this nonsense about him being a generational talent . he couldn't even get in the England set up n that's tells you everything. only our super fans think he's the best thing since sliced bread.

12 May 2025 14:25:18
Personally, Stromsgodset (I remember beating your username by 11 in 1974, though I wasn't there) I never considered Trent to be world class, but we will undoubtedly miss his assists and his passing ability. You can think he's "the best thing since sliced bread" and still boo him.

Like I've said, I will never boo one of our own, but I don't want to come across like I'm the new Pope, because I'm definitely not.

When it comes to the Palace game, if he is on the pitch, those that do take to booing, it will be like kicking off at a wedding, cus you don't like one of the ushers. In doing so you ruin the wedding for the bride and groom and the rest of the congregation. This is probably a poor analogy, but I'm sure folk know where I'm coming from.

It doesn't matter if you don't rate Trent, klopp basically built the team around him, slot pretty much did close to the same but tried to tone it down a notch as far as our reliance on him, Madrid are buying him not as a right back really but to replace kroos and be their focal progressive passer because they know he is elite in this regard.

You can hate the lad for the rest of your life but saying he's not that good is really a bit silly if you ask me, he is a special football player, somebody who can make you gasp in awe in a split second and get your team from a tight spot in your own half into acres of space in the opposition half with his right peg.

Rome 1977. Stromsgotset was my first evening game, my Dad used to take me to the Saturday games but I remember this game so well.5 nil at have time (i hope I'm right about that ) . been all over the country n abroad supporting them . just pisses me off that a player born in the same city as me could do the dirty on us . not by leaving but leaving on a free . people on here say he's give us 20 years . that makes me laugh . he's had 5 odd seasons playing with a very lucrative contract. we nurtured him . but he gets praised like he's something special
Patrick Burgher . you might thing he's an excellent player . I don't rate him as a defender bcoz he not very good at defending. I agree he's got a wand of a right foot . but he will definitely being player right back from Madrid he won't play in midfield. ot sure how you came to that.
