In the minority here,
But hear me out!
I actually, ridiculously, really don’t want us to sign Isak. Especially for so much money, I mean I don’t really care it’s not mine.
But as our main man. He will need to play damn close to 50 games a season or more, something I don’t know if he’s capable of. He Dosent do too much defensive work. He’s wrapped in cotton wool essentially at Newcastle.
Mo is already not doing allot of work tracking back etc. we cannot bring in another player in the forward line who Dosent cover enough ground. I worry about his niggling injuries also, which will only get worse.
I don’t know,
I’m concerned about this deal if it is to go through.
He is world class. He will be close to 30 goals in this team. Maybe we don’t even need him fit 100% of the time lol. He is that good.
What are other peoples opinions?

@Joe, your concerns are valid, IMO. Isak has missed 39 games in 3 years (according to a stat I've seen someone post on here) and that is a big concern for the money we will be paying for him should we sign him. Anyone just swatting that away is not being honest at all.
However as usual, there is always a risk with signing anyone let alone a player like Isak for the money we would pay so it will have to come down to how we do our due diligence a, d homework and then weigh the pros and cons. It's all we can do as that is all we can control. At that point, a decision will be made. Just my take.

im with you. Fabulous player who would fit in well and a player and person with our group. But his injury records is the worry. Can he play 50+ games a season.
If my memory serves me right one of the reasons for appointing slot was his record on player injuries which reportedly was lower or better protecting them from being injured.
18 Jun 2025 09:13:12
Agree with this ???.
18 Jun 2025 09:27:29
I clearly remember how things went with Sturridge and how we (the fans) practically hounded him out of the club. We're doing the same thing now with Jota.
I have no way of knowing if that's how it will be if Isak does join and his fitness record does not improve. But it's a hell of a lot of money for something to not work out (see Nunez) .
18 Jun 2025 09:29:30
How is he wrapped in cotton wool?
He started 20, 30 and 34 games in his three seasons at Newcastle.
I think he was rested before the League Cup final, too, and that seemed to pay off.
I wouldn't be too worried if he is going to score nearly 30 goals a season.
But I still don't see it happening.
18 Jun 2025 09:31:38
He is world class and will score close to 30 goals in this team.
You have just answered your own question.
18 Jun 2025 09:39:00
If I'm being honest with myself, I too have this very concern. We'll have to see what happens if he joins, does our medical team have a plan?
Or is this all just a smokescreen for Zlatan to come out of retirement for a final swnasong? Both Swedish strikers?
(I'm joking, btw! )
18 Jun 2025 09:47:57
I would rather have Alvarez or Martinez to be honest. The former is a machine who has missed one game in three seasons and both work their asses off for the team. But if Isak continues with his goal scoring feats and stays uninjured, he’s better than both.
18 Jun 2025 10:03:44
Very valid. Leave alone fitness, all the pressing and dirty work is done by others at Newcastle.
Hence it is a high risk option to have both Isak and Salah in the same 11.
Hence we need a player who brings others into play and intelligent when we don't have the ball.
18 Jun 2025 10:28:37
Does he have to play 50+ games a season though? Surely we have enough quality in our squad to rest him when necessary. Also, as we have seen this season; with playing style, coaching/ training and recovery methods, we have reduced muscular injuries significantly across the squad.
Newcastle's approach is much more back to front quickly, counter-attacking football that will result in much more sprints. He wouldn't necessarily have to do that repetitively for us through a 90 minute period. I do also think that Isak does more off the ball work than people give him credit for, its just that he presses high up the pitch. I don't think we necessarily need him chasing back all the time.
Hopefully, past injury concerns are better managed and we get a healthy 30 goal a season striker.
Cheers.

I think I am a bit old school, and haven't really seen us be so aggressive in transfer window, or whatever, but this doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Getting Wirtz and Isak in the same window would be just filthy. Maybe I am just too used to being an underdog.
18 Jun 2025 10:17:30
Gaga, I disagree. The stats about his injury record is what they are (if true) . You can't just ignore all that and just focus on the 30 goals he may score. Or may not even score cos nothing is guaranteed, btw.
For ex. if Isak was still at Sociedad, Dortmund or wherever and had missed 39 game missed in 3 years? Would you just ignore that? Cos I know I wouldn't and with Jota's and Studge's injury record with us to point to as evidence, I wouldn't touch him regardless of how many goals he has scored.
The best we can do here is do our homework, weigh the pros. and the cons. and then if we are sure with certain safeguards in place medically/ training wise etc. then, we go for it even tho like @Rigsby, I don't see that happening. We have to be very careful here. That's my only point.
18 Jun 2025 10:34:01
Sami Kewell you've just described Wirtz haven't you?
If anyone can manage Isaks minutes surely it's us? With the amount of forwards we have. Perhaps he will score enough goals that we will be put of sight by 70 minutes and he can come off. Jacob Murphy provided 8 assists for Isak last season. Salah and Wirtz must fancy their chances of beating that?
He may get some injuries but he definitely puts the ball in the onion bag and that is in quite a workmanlike team that don't create as many chances as we do. It's not my money so I don't care. Fsg don't seem the Peter Ridsdale type to over extend themselves so if it can be done we should do it.
18 Jun 2025 10:35:15
Yep he's a unbelievable player but the money being talked about is too much imo. Might prefer taking a chance on Stassin and then going all in for Isak or another striker next summer.
18 Jun 2025 10:58:22
Rigsby
At Liverpool you could be playing easily north of 50 games tho. If we are forking out what is suggested it is reasonable enough to hope he would be available for the good majority of the games. He is a very good player.
18 Jun 2025 10:59:40
Wow, we're being linked to the best striker on the planet (yes, he's better than Mbappe and Haaland) and we are panicking about the price?
18 Jun 2025 12:57:13
FlyPelicanFly, I ain't panicking about the price cos you are only worth what someone is ready to pay for your services in football and in all walks of life. My thing is his injury record. Apart from that, I got no issues with Isak.
18 Jun 2025 13:36:22
Olired
I get your point, but the previous poster did believe that Isak would possibly score 30 goals in a Liverpool team. For me I would take that regardless. Yes he may not play every game but that is down to the team behind Slot to manage. We should have a squad that can cover games he misses whether that be through injury or resting. I now you cannot guarantee the goals output but 30 goals from Isak and 30 from Mo then a sprinkling of goals from other players.
18 Jun 2025 14:11:24
Irish, you're right. I would hope he was available for every game.
But if he missed 39 games over three seasons, it doesn't follow that he misses 39 games every 3 seasons.
It doesn't necessarily mean he misses 13 games a season, either.
Tbh, I don't know what his injury record or what it will be like but stats can be misleading and people can worry over things that they know little about.
I don't even think we'll sign him.
18 Jun 2025 19:06:12
I agree OP. If he comes I'll be elated obviously, but we will still need a good cover player up front. Does that mean Jota staying or Diaz covering LW and ST?
Given the option of Isak now or Alvarez next year I'd probably take the latter. All this said, I do think he could do well for us.
