So what do we do about our tragic CF situation. I thought we would go all in for Cunha as he was prem proven and Jota would rotate when needed and be an impact player. Literally just reading the threads and it dawned on me that Jota was our CF. That might not make sense as of course I know what position he played I was just shocked by the entire situation and I guess the reality hit this morning.

Doesn't make the tragedy worse as Jota is a person before his job as a footballer ?? I guess the club will have been quiet out of respect.

The question is the one we have been constantly asking? Who do we get? Is there anyone we can realistically go for. I hear the same Isak rumours and others linked. The first ball gets kicked in anger in about a month. Any updates or info.

Rest easy Jota ??.

I think we’ll prioritise replacing Nunez with our main targets; Isak or Ekitike.

If we replace Jota I think it’ll be a kid (Koumas/ Danns) or a free transfer.

It’s a hard one Monkey.
I’m not personally keen on the idea of Ekitike at the price, maybe if he was £45-50m it’s more appealing.
Isak won’t happen NU want him desperately for Europe and he won’t push the move.
Osmihen was a good Nunez replacement for me, but he seems destined for the Turkish Super Liga now so obviously has low ambitions.
Ferran plus £25-30m for Diaz is an option, I’m not discounting, could be a possibility.
Gonçalo Ramos is possible as PSG seem him as sellable?
If Akira ever gets a prediction correct, we could end up with Lautaro Martinez from Inter but I suspect not ?
Ed025 used to rate Calvert Lewis very highly, we could grab him on a free ?.

This might come across wrong, my heart goes out to his family and friends. However, before this tragedy everyone was hoping we would sell Jota because of his injuries, I don’t think his untimely death changes anything regards transfer strategy. If it has made any difference I think it has probably made it more worthwhile keeping Robertson in the dressing room.

I think we need only one more forward player, assuming Nunez goes and the others stay. Wirtz in my view will play either false 9 or as a wide forward, Diaz, salah, Gakpo and Chiesa we have good depth, we just need someone who can offer a different threat down the middle.

Maybe the club are very slowly getting back to something resembling 'normalcy' after a catastrophic tragedy and we will get some news in some form or another over the next week? I'm not here to judge anybody but it's a bit jarring how we have gone from mourning to panicking over a number 9 again. We know that the club treat it as a top priority, but honestly if our options are Ekitike and Sesko I'd rather just keep Nunez.

I'd sell Nunez, buy a replacement (even if it's a punt, they can't be worse than Nunez), and also promote one of the kids like Danns.

11 Jul 2025 12:05:11
Is danns back and available for pre season?

PB, can you elaborate on why you would keep Nunez, serious question, just want to understand why anybody would want to after his tortuous last season but that's just my opinion, I'd really like to hear from the people who would keep him on why they would, again genuinely interested in this.

Isak is evidently number one target. But I think he’d be too expensive. I’d be delighted if he signed as he’s absolutely top class.

Osimhen seems too concerned with keeping his pockets lined than sporting ambitions so he’s off to Turkey.

The best of the rest in my view is Ekiteke, Sesko, Ramos and Retigui. Of which Ramos or Retigui wouldn’t break the bank and to be honest they seem like the kind of Salah/ Mane type signings, Retigui in particular seems to fulfil that criteria of being a goal scorer and the kind that bring others into play.

I did not say that I would keep Nunez, I simply said that if I had to choose between splunking 100mill euro for Sesko or Ekitike or keeping Nunez, I would keep Nunez every day of the week. None of those are especially attractive options though, obviously.

Retegui is signing for a Saudi club, Viktor.

11 Jul 2025 13:36:25
Retegui could easily be a one season wonder and we end up with a Hojlund type player that was never good enough to start with.

Cheers for all the responses people. Just trying to be realistic not panicking. I do agree it's crazy to spend silly money on someone unproven. Calvert Lewis on a free offers no worse position as Nunez isn't scoring.
