Jamie Carragher has said that he is happy with Isak potentially coming in, but the amount being discussed is Mbappe level money. Obviously very different players but my preference would be Isak all day everyday for many reasons.

Carra was a committed defender, maybe not great but certainly in the Terry Butcher mould in terms of bleeding for the club.

He is an entertaining pundit alongside his bestie Neville.

He's a pretty disgusting human being, for obvious reasons.

He is not a scout nor does he understand finances and PSR.

Exactly, Zed. Never been arsed about whatever this dude has to say about anything. He flip flops so much it's not even worth it, man.

I wasn’t aware of his spitting incident, apologies.

06 Aug 2025 15:39:49
He may be all of the above zed but I agree with him I’d walk away at the prices. Not like it’s Henry, fowler, Rooney haaland.

06 Aug 2025 15:42:52
Well, I would rather go for isak than mbappe anyday, so that justifies the price according to Carra's logic.

Agree Zed, I had plenty of time for him as a player but he's now just another Sky mouthpiece and didn't lose his job for the spitting incident. I've got no time for him and can't stand listening to some of his crap!

Scouse John, I guess my approach is that if the club experts feel that they need him (coaching staff) and that we can afford him (finance staff) then I don't really care what he costs.

He is a better striker than we have, arguably the best in the league last year (based on stats), and if he's the difference maker for us, let's do it.

Forwards always command daft fees - I remember how shocked I was that Man Utd paid £25m for Van Persie who was 29 and only had 1 year of his contract left (IIRC) . But most people agree he was the reason that Utd won their last Premier League.

I remember when Chris Sutton signed for Blackburn for £5m that was crazy money in those days. I thought that was ridiculous. But times change anyone half decent commands crazy fees these days let alone players who are considered the best striker in the league.

Isak is a dream signing I never thought we could get. Since the moment I saw him for Newcastle I could see he was on a different level to anything else in the league. Even Haaland.

Haaland is a great goal scorer don’t get me wrong but you could see last season when the supply dried up he was an empty shirt.

Isak can do so much more. If there is a chance to get him and it’s affordable, I don’t care what it costs we should get him. He’ll score us goals for the next 5-10 years, £150m is a small price to pay in today’s game.

This isn’t about Mbappe vs Isak.

When the structure you need is rare, the part that completes it becomes priceless - regardless of its catalogue value.

Liverpool’s room is built: beams in place, shelves aligned, weight distributed. But one junction remains unstable.

Isak is the bracket that locks the frame. Without him, it stands. With him, it endures.

The numbers may look strange, but ultimately, the shape is correct.

Carragher not really considering the fact that to sign mbappe, you'd probably have to pay him close to £700k a week more then we'll end up paying Isak. That's about £40m a year, which is about £200m over a 5 year contract. So, not only would no one get mbappe for £150m, the overall package would be astronomical.

In a world where caicedo, Enzo, Wirtz, GREALISH!, Coutinho are all "worth" over £100m, then Isak at £130m-£150m doesn't seem too outrageous.
