Thoughts on the Manchester United Transfer Window

{Ed's Note - Shappy has posted a new article entitled, Thoughts on the Manchester United Transfer Window

Well, that's certainly one way of looking at it shappy! Another way would be to say you still have a tremendously unbalanced midfield, one good central defender in yoro, an unproven goalkeeper and spunked £70m on a striker who, at first glance, is very similar to the striker they let leave on loan.

I swear Utd fans think they’ve won the transfer window trophy every summer ?

Posts like this are so full of ifs buts and maybe’s.

Maybe just wait a while before posting stuff like this?

I must admit I do find it entertaining watching shappy trying to manufacture positives from that bin fire at Old Toilet.

I do enjoy reading Shappys posts. It’s the nearest thing to observing the inner brain functions of a cult member.

Yes, Sancho's mental health is why he didn't want to walk away from his 300k a week contract.

07 Sep 2025 13:04:01
I stopped reading that ? when he said lammens and sesko were showing elite level talent in weaker leagues.

A Man Utd fan with rose tinted glasses - never.

Utd have bought decently for the forward areas but have not addressed anything else. Not sure how you can rate a window like that 8/ 10.

Well, he’s convinced me - I’m putting my life savings on them winning the PL this season. It really is a gift that keeps on giving, isn’t it ?.

Poor Shappy. Every window is a great one, every signing is smart and every player forced out on loans or for next to nothing was necessary for the culture rebuild.

Given their financial predicament, their spending has been one-eyed again. Business should have started with a reliable goalkeeper rather than maxing out the footballing world's biggest credit card on 3 mid-table forwards.

Long may their circus continue. Scruffy Jim is doing a fabulous job.

Zirkzee is the worst number 11 i've ever seen play for them.

OP mentioned that if they sell Rashford to Barcelona for 25 million that is pure profit
What I don't understand is that Brighton bought Caicedo for 4million and sold him for 115 million which shows a profit of 111 million, isn't that pure profit?
People give the impression that you can only make pure profit if you have had the player at the club from young and developed them, only to sell them on.
In my mind if they haven't developed them then the cost of developing them is not theirs so any profit is a profit on the balance sheet.

Caicedo is an exceptional case due to the figures involved.
Let's say he was bought for £40mill rather than £4m on a 5 year deal. That's £8m paid off each year, if he's sold after 1 year the remaining amount is taken away from the transfer fee recieved so in this case £115m - £32m = £83m profit.
Caicedo was so cheap and sold for so much that it would be pretty much all profit.
