There's been an awful lot of stick being handed out on here to Wirtz. He cerainly hasn't set the world on fire yet but he's only played half a dozen games in the PL. At the time of posting this he has created the most chances in the PL so far this season - 21 -. Just be patient guys.

Wirtz looks class. The issue is how we fit him into the team given we were already light on dual winners and intensity in midfield. Is what he gives better than what we lose playing him as a 10.
{Ed025's Note - i dont see where he looks class WM, he may well come good mate but up to now he has looked awful..

He is always trying to make something happen when on the ball for sure. It’s been a collective effort when the team hasn’t looked good, not just on him.
I do think for our formation it would suit the team better to have Gravy and Szob behind him as both of them can cover a lot of ground and really give the midfield legs. As much as I like Macca he just isn’t mobile enough to play in a 2. I think right now he would suit better as a rotation option with Wirtz where he can have more freedom to attack.

KBL, Wirtz needs to be given time. Gravenberch and Szoboszlai didn't exactly set the world alight in their first seasons at the club. It just takes some players time to adapt to the Premier League. I used Salah and KDB as examples yesterday. Chelsea sure regret letting them go because they didn't hit the ground running at 21-22 years old.
Wirtz is working hard and creating chances for his team mates. However, it is remiss of us to deny when he looks poor. The other night at Galatasaray he was dreadful. He was also very poor vs Burnley earlier in the season. He needs to be more aggressive. He's clearly not weak and has excellent balance, but it does look at times like he bottles 50/ 50's.
You can tell from his first touch and his close control that he is extremely talented, but he needs to translate that to end product when he does get forward, and he needs to battle harder in the games where the opposition are making it physical.
I hope our fan base give him time. If we bully him out we'll regret it just like Chelsea did.

Awful, huh, Ed?
Your opinions are normally well worth reading, but Wirtz has categorically not been awful. He’s finding his feet in the league, sure, but on a technical level he looks well above most in the league.
You will understood soon just why we signed Wirtz.
{Ed025's Note - he may well come good Lowe but if you think he has been even half decent you are kidding yourself mate, for £110m i was expecting better i must admit..

Ed025, control of the ball, running foward at pace with full ball control, amazing passes with both feet. Has his head up and knows where the team is and finds them at the right team. Problem isn’t Wirtz. Diaz and Nunez would have had a field day with him feeding them. But… he does weaken an already weak midfield in terms of combativeness, dual winning and intensity.
{Ed025's Note - i think he will come good WM but at the moment hes not very good mate..

Taurus01, you are right. Ed01 once said that for Wirtz to flourish is to essentially build a wall behind him with a double pivot of Szobo and Grav (Macca ain't fit so not in the equation at this point) . Fr me, he is a 10 so play him in the 10 or he holds bench. There is NO point putting him in any other position. Palace taught us that.
MKS, I agree with some of your point. Wirtz needs time and in certain situations, has shown some bright flashes of brilliance on the ball and on another day, he would have had a few assists already. Vs Palace, he should score that for sure. To me, we need to keep trying to help him and he too needs to take his moments when they come cos the reality is the reality and time is of the essence. It's a collective venture is what Im saying, essentially.

MK Scouser, I agree fully.

Didn’t KDB score like 15 goals and approx the same in assists in his first season at City?

Ed25, always love to hear from you mate. Only one who tells it how it is and I respect that.
{Ed025's Note - cheers SM, im always here for council and direction when needed mate.. :)

Irish Rover, at 22 years old De Bruyne was at Chelsea and struggling to get in the team. He was written off after 9 appearances, and sold back to the Bundesliga.
When he later returned to City at 25 years old he went on to be one of the greatest midfielders the Premier League has ever seen.

You can’t judge Wirtz by what KDB, or by judging Wirtz against Aquila I or anybody else. You can only assess a player by what they do themselves over an extended period of time, relative to the circumstances they play in. Wirtz has shown some great touches, and very good vision. What’s lacking at this stage is consistent execution. It’s to be expected, playing in a new league in a new country, for a team that has undergone wholesale changes in personnel recently and that is working through a period of familiarisation with each other.
If we are reasonably placed in the League and CL at Christmas / early New Year we might well start to see what (I think) we are going to be capable of.

It's not about comparing Wirtz with de Bruyne. It's about comparing the adaptation period.
You can't cheat the adaptation period. Unless you are Kevin de Bruyne or someone else that hits the ground running. Like Endo, who didn't hit the ground running or cheat the adaptation period.
Just my take.

I don’t think that stat is accurate.

The game i think against palace were Wirtz in the penalty area and he back healed the ball to nobody .
A few things came to light first he thought someone was behind him secondly no one read what he was trying thirdly his team mates could not read what he was doing.
Which tells me the team have not jelled yet they are trying to figure out each others game.
Mo said he was strugling to work out Hugo.
Time is needed and patience for several new players to jell with established players.
