Regards Mo - For me, what we are seeing is the same Mo that we’ve seen since his last extension just minus the lightening strikes of G/ As.
I was an advocate for not extending him last time and the most recent time. Nothing to do with Mo or being a hate. Mo is actually amazing to me. He can spend the game dribbling straight into the defenders legs. He can get kept quiet by Nico Williams lol and then pop up for a goal. And do that again and again. It’s a testament to him and how he’s contributed to the team
I still have faith he has G/ A contributions in him but the issue now is that we need the overall game. Otherwise we are imbalanced and then we also get situations where the obvious and easy pass to Wirtz is neglected potentially because he is more inclined to think of himself not the team.
I’ve never thought that Mo was the most important player in the team. And whilst we were set-up to benefit from his and Mane’s counter attack ability, I always felt the strength in the team was from GK-CBs-midfield. Hence why when We had that injury crisis Mo was basically anonymous. And why we’ve basically never suffered when Mo has gone to AFCON.
I do think this is an issue that needs managing and I’m not enamoured by the idea we play him into form. I think there is more benefit to the team in him coming off the bench and bringing those lightening strike moments to win/ seal a match whilst we also allow the future to develop now.

When we had that injury crisis, Mo was our top scorer that season. I don't know which injury crisis you are talking about but he's been our top scorer every season he's been with us.
How is that anonymous?
You were against extending his previous contract with us? He either scored or assisted more than half of our PL goals on our way to winning it last season.
And you were against re-signing someone that did that?
Oh, and it's lightning, Faith ?.

@Rigsby, it’s time to look forward rather than live in the past. MO’s greatest strength when he’s playing in top form is his greatest weakness when his form dips. He wants to score and is focussed (or blinkered) when he has the ball. Playing well he scores loads, playing badly, which he has been this season, he loses the ball a lot and becomes a passenger.
Father Time (in a football career sense) is sneaking up on him. Sad but true.

Mo has been in decline for the past 3 seasons, but he is still top drawer on his day. He will still be a huge benefit to the team this season, and the man deserves the upmost respect for what he has done for Liverpool FC but he does now need to be game managed, he will suit some games, others he won’t and his replacement (never be like for like) should have been sought last season. I would live the Olise fella to join but that would be tricky with Bayern, Semenyo would be decent but having discovered he is a big Arsenal fan he is a pass for me.
Olise, Barcola, Lacroix and Guehi next summer would be a belter window and would fix the wide and defensive issues we are seeing now.
One last thing, those who are already doubting Isak, you will be wrong, the man will come good very soon, he is an excellent fit for this team.

Rigsby - I've explained myself and realize that it's a difficult argument to make. Especially when people get emotional and knee-jerk in their response, just as you have just done.
Yeah I was against re-signing him because extending contracts on improved terms should be for the output we expect over the lifetime of the remaining contract, not in recognition for what has been done.
I'm ok that we did re-sign him and as I've said above, I think there are G/ As in him yet. Just offering that it's not all doom and gloom had we let him go and put our attention into building the team.
In that 00/ 01 season we had that gnarly period where we mucked around with Hendo and Fab at CB for too long and compromised the spine of our team. From Christmas until the March international window we went 4W 8L 3D in the league, Mo scored 4 of the 11 goals over that period.
For me, when the team is struggling, I expect our world class players to step up. My memory of that time is that Mo (and others in attack to be fair) were ineffective because the spine of the team, the most important part of the team needed addressing first.
So when i say I wouldn't have re-signed him, it's because my feeling is that there are areas of the pitch that are most important to how the team functions.

@West Derby Wanderer IV I agree to an extent on Mo, but look at last season, top of the prem with 23 assists in all competitions, that's twice what he usually does. I believe it's because he knows he's not quite got the pace he used to. You can't get 23 assists with blinkers on now can you?! So he's well capable of adapting his game. Its difficult for him this season, a lot change in the squad but there's no real reason he can't do big numbers as usual. The whole squads been poor not just Mo.
shughes55 How exactly does the best player in the premier league go from breaking records to "needs to be game managed" over the summer break?! You're wildly jumping to conclusions because of a poor run of form the whole squad is guilty of, not just Mo.

"Totally" agree
Great post ?.

It’s funny how after a handful of bad games people want to rewrite history. Our top goal scorer for 8 seasons in a row, Premier League top goal scorer 4 times, PFA and football writers player of the year 3 times yet because he’s had a couple of bad patches over the past decade he’s never been our most important player? Laughable.

Don't write off Mo just yet. We have so many of our players out of form. I'll stick it out here and say he finishes the PL season w 10 assists and 15 goals min.
When Klopp played Salah too far from goal his numbers went down. Yep he's lost a couple yards, his touch and passing are awol and he's as greedy as ever. But he's not done yet and he'll contribute this season.

Thunderbird - look I get it, it sounds crazy aye lol It's hard to make my argument because the simple way to look at it is just G/ As.
I've been pretty consistent on this for a while so am real comfortable with my position and I think I've explained my thoughts pretty well as to why I've landed here.

WDW, Faith said he didn't want to re-sign Salah on the contract before the last one. I didn't bring up Salah's past. I will go back and say that had Salah left then then we might not have achieved what we did without him. I'll stick my neck out and say we wouldn't have won the League last season without his goals and assists. He started every game, scored 29 goals and had 18 assists. That's very difficult to replace.
Salah's new contract might prove to be a mistake but last season most people were worried about him potentially leaving on a free. People were looking to the future without the hindsight of about a dozen games this season.
Faith, scoring goals is the most important thing in the game. Salah has done more than anyone else (one season he was joint with Mane) since he's been here. Letting that go for nothing because van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Fabinho and Henderson were injured (or could get injured) would have been a huge mistake.
Letting Salah go to strengthen the defence and midfield would have been akin to cashing in on Alisson and replacing him with Kelleher, like many on here suggested.
You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

I wished all players declined as slow as MO ?.

To place my comments into some sort of context, I think Mo has been absolutely superb, season in and season out, for the club and, @Rigsby, I agree he was a major factor in our winning 5he league. That said it’s only natural that he and everybody else who plays the game loses form from time to time.
Mo is out of form and doesn’t deserve to start at the moment. At the moment, in my opinion, what happened last season or in previous seasons is not a factor - we need to turn up, put a shift in and beat Brentford - that’s all that matters at the moment and our chances, based on current form, would be better if Mo wasn’t picked on the starting 11. It doesn’t mean that his reputation and what he has done for the club is tarnished and, it doesn’t mean that he won’t regain some semblance of form (which I hope he does because he is genuinely world class in his position when on top of his from) .

your only as good as your last game,
sure Mo, helped us big time winning the League, but at some time, Father Time will catch up with him,
Mo and VVD were always first on the Team sheet for me,
but last few games, he can't even put a shot on target, trap the ball and beat his man,
just make him a sub, and he will find his form,
Mo Salah is a Legend and always will be.
24 Oct 2025 12:08:14
WDW, I'm not saying he should start but I questioned Faith saying he didn't want to re-sign Salah in 2022; not his latest contract.
Salah was a huge factor in what happened last season. That wouldn't have been the case if we hadn't extended his contract in 2022.
Some will say- some with the benefit of hindsight of a dozen games this season- that we shouldn't have re-signed him this summer and they may be right but it's foolish to regret re-signing him in 2022 given what he has done.
24 Oct 2025 12:36:50
I agree with your take on 2022 and not letting Mo go at that point, @Rigsby.
