I have hope for the season and the future, and here is why.

From last season's team, Diaz, Trent, Robbo, Macca and Mo all played over 2000 minutes in the league.

Diaz and Trent are gone.

Robbo is still here but not playing much

Mo is here but may as well not be

Macca had no pre-season due to injury, but for some reason has started 7 of the 8 games he's been available for and has looked a million miles off the pace. He's been about as absent as Mo and that's saying something

My overall thinking here is that half of this year's team are either new to the club or just off the pace.

When I think about building a team there are key things money cannot buy - chemistry, trust, learning through adversity.

So this is where I land with hope - nothing other than time can develop that. We didn't really have any adversity last season, so even our Coaches are learning about themselves as they go through this bad patch.

What would get in the way of that? a complete breakdown between coaches and players, coaches and management, disconnect with fans. kinda like at end of BR time.

But I they need to stick together, keep learning about themselves through this adversity and build their trust. It may take the course of the season and I'm here for it!

I love your positivity brother ?.

Agree with you Faith but unfortunately while they are settling in we will be lucky to get Top 4.

Darwins - would that be the worst? we've missed top 4 before and bounced back. Klopp's second last season. not that long aye!?

Missing out on top four would be very bad for PSR and FFP, Faith. Unfortunately misplaced “positive vibes” doesn’t pay the bills, particularly when you’ve spent big in the summer. Holding hands and singing kumbaya isn't going to save the season.

You knew klopps team would tho faith. Steve that sure about slots?

Taking a team that won the league at a canter, adding half a billion worth of players, then scraping Top 4 is extremely poor in my book, Faith. We should be head-to-head for first place for the next season or two.

I"m pretty sure the club didn't go into debt buying players in the summer and won't fall foul of psr even if we don't make it to the CL. I have absolutely every confidence that we will, but from everything that we had heard and read they were in the clear even after buying isak.

On the other hand I think we all want to see some signs of progress from slot, sticking with the same plan and the same speed of play and the same panicked lumping on of every attacker we have and getting done at the end because they can't defend game after game is not going to help his case with the fans. If he has a vision with the players we have brought in then we want to see it take some kind of shape, losing is fine, as long as it's clear that we know what we are doing and what needs to be tweaked to fix it. Right now there is very little clarity on that front.

The only positive is that in spite of it all we are still creating more than two xg a game and should have scraped at least one point, if not three, in every game we lost (maybe not Brentford) . You would expect that with the quality of our attacking players though.

Right now we are kind of looking like Madrid when they had just bought mbappe, like a team of superstars without structure, hoping for moments of inspiration, without the proper shape and balance to help the sublime talent in the side to thrive and without the off ball structure and delegated responsibilities to nullify the opposition. I would like to believe that this surely wasn't the plan in the summer but we need to see proof.

"What would get in the way of that? a complete breakdown between coaches and players, coaches and management, disconnect with fans. kinda like at end of BR time. "

Faith, I share your views BUT Im afraid this is already happening esp. since Carra (the poster) has said we may already be manager shopping, something we were doing with BR in charge till he got the chop as soon as Kloppo said yes to us.

The worst thing here is that going into the Brentford game, we all knew what the stakes were. We knew we had to win to keep pace and arrest the slump YET we started that game so poorly with no fight, no desire, no determination and no sense of urgency. Those where the traits we saw in games before BR got gone. Not sure what will happen here if Slot does not win vs Villa and/ or City next.

All that really matters is the next game. People’s opinions are really “interesting’ and all that but the only thing that can bring about change is the team playing like a team and getting a result.

It's not the same team as last season though.
TAA has gone. Robbo has been replaced; which most wanted. Mac has not been the same player, so far. Diaz and Nunez left and Jota passed away. Salah is still here but it's highly unlikely that he'll ever a season like the last one.
That's a lot of changes.
We brought in a lot of exciting replacements- some of which I'm convinced are better- but most of them don't address one of the weaknesses we had last season.

That steel in midfield and defence.
We got away with it or didn't need it then but it's a different story this. Even MacAllister not being up to speed and not having TAA has had a big effect.
The tinkering with Grav is hard to understand, too.
