As has been picked up by others - it's not so much the defeats in isolation but the manner of the defeats which is disturbing.

That goals against column is what you'd see from a relegation team before we mention the abject lack of fight pretty much across the team. We had stinkers of games under Jurgen and even that dodgy 10 game run we had, but you could still see the fight in the team, they were doing the right things and you always felt that they would come through it, this time I don't think anyone of us is that sure, whether you back Arne or not.

We know there has been other circumstances, but looking this lost and bereft of a will to fight back more than hints at bigger problems.

Elsewhere, Diaz goes from strength to strength - whether he was determined to leave or not I don't know, and hindsight is a wonderful gift, but it's looking like a sale that was based more on being hard nosed than fighting hard to keep a quality player.

Why would you say the Diaz sale was about being hard nosed? By all accounts he’d been trying to leave for 2 years.

On the one hand we have people saying we should’ve sold Konate and he shouldn’t be in the team because he wants to leave and on the other we being criticised for selling a player who wanted to leave. You can’t have it both ways. If we’d sold Konate and he was ripping it up in Spain people would be saying that’s a mistake too.

You can’t run a football team on hindsight. If a player wants to leave and voices his intention to leave the best thing to do is get rid.

As I understand it, Diaz would have stayed had he been offered a higher wage, but it was Edwards who thought best to sell him whilst his stock was high. This could then be seen as a value judgment.

I can admit to perhaps undervaluing Diaz and his work-rate and ability to create something out of nothing, although him leaving is only a piece of the puzzle as to why we are patchy and soft at the moment.

@Johnny, let's not act like Diaz (via his dad) was agitating for a move for about 18 months esp. after the club supported him and his fam during his dad's kidnapping. Let's not act like many at the club (and the fans) saw that as a slap in the face of the club and fan base that took care fo you and yours during the worst ordeal anyone can imagine.

For me, I loved Diaz and was happy he played his heart out last season however, it does not make sense to give a guy a bigger contract when he is about to turn 29. Remember, Edwards was here when Klopp demanded Hendo and Fab get new juicy contracts only for their legs to go in the first season

Had the Saudis not came in for both, we would have had issues moving them. There was NO way the club nor Edwards would allow that to happen again, IMO.

At the end of the day, Diaz wanted to go and we let him go and lots of people are now (not saying you're doing it) the "Oh, it was a mistake to let Diaz" go, just like many did with Mane despite Mane's legs having been gone and many wanted him gone too.

OliRed - Can;t argue with that, but i do feel he offered an outlet that no longer exists in the side, plus he ran around a lot and was a battler. We are missing some fight these days.

I have always preferred Diaz over Gakpo and personally think we kept the wrong player. People will point to age but for me Gakpo doesn’t do enough, is very predictable and can’t defend or press. Diaz added fight and flare, something which we are desperately lacking this season.

Banana, I don't deny your final point at all. He did run his socks off for us and was a fighter BUT he did what he did and wantd to go to the point of causing chaos in the DR, per Ed01. If that was the case then by all means and it pains me to say this, he should be let go.

10 Nov 2025 22:56:26
Funny how everyone now clamours after a player that is seemingly doing well in a league that most on here only put down for being soft and slow and would rather us not buy players from. Diaz never tore up the PL - he's gone to the best team by miles in the Bundes and now everyone thinks we should've kept him.

If he wasn't previously a LFC player, would anyone still want him or would everyone say the same thing that's said about every other player that doesn't come from the PL? "His stats are just padded because he's in a weak league. "

10 Nov 2025 23:20:31
Diaz wanted to leave and Gakpo wanted to stay. Don't think we kept the wrong player personally. And Diaz has a new contract in front of him too that he rejected. He went after the money at Bayern despite saying how it was a dream for him to play for Barca.

He was a good player for us but he wanted to go so it was the right decision to show him the door.

all the teams in the relegation zone have conceded 20+ goals. we've conceded 17

Regards Diaz, I've made this point further up the page but my point about Diaz is that he is a baller and his kind of attitude is what we're missing a lot of in our team.

People will say that this is an excuse, but if you take out Diaz and Nunez, absolute animals who will run their socks off for you and you replace them with Wirtz and Ekitike who are more finesse type players, then it shouldn't be a surprise to see the overall energy and bite in the team drop.

11 Nov 2025 07:40:22
I'd like to know what chaos Diaz caused in the dressing room.
And no, we won't be handing out juicy new contracts for a player about to turn 29.
Salah and van Dijk were in their thirties, weren't they?

11 Nov 2025 13:07:31
Rigsby, Ed01 is the source of that infoof Diaz being a prob in the DR so take it up with him.

And yeah, cos clearly Salah and VVD are in the same boat as Diaz. Good heavens.

Seriously, the lack of context nor logic in comparing Diaz who wanted to leave us for two years to legends who are levels above him and actually wanted to stay (and the club thought more highly of them than a guy who wanted out) is staggering BUT not surprising.
