We need to be honest here. The season before Klopp won the title was the last time we saw gegenpressing. Klopp ditched it as it’s unsustainable - no team has ever won the title by going berserk with a hard-pressing counter-attack.
It’s why he never used it in a Euro final. It’s definitely the best form of football to watch, but requires such perfection in execution that it is hard to sustain.

We also need to remember that in Klopp’s final seasons we seemed to ship early goals every game, and were totally vulnerable to a counter attack.
It seemed that Slot had addressed that, but not this season - and we don’t have the Klopp factor to claw back these games.

So the moral of the story. Klopp is great and if he wants to come back we should bite his hand off.

Tbh my main thinking we need Klopp back is because he will have the balls to drop Salah. Can you see Ireola coming in and making big choices like that? I can’t. Klopp on an interim could come in, manage the egos and set the next person up for success in the summer by phasing some of our players out with less pressure.

Think the point is this heavy metal football everyone remembers klopp playing wasnt seen in his last two years at the club, even he had gone away from it.

We didn’t back Klopp. Whether he was partly to blame with the loyalty etc remains to be seen.

We gave him the Team, but never the Squad.

Iraola style more like Klopps Dortmund, but can that translate to a big club in the prem?

I believe Iraola will be one of the top level next gen coaches like Alonso, who he's a bit behind at the mo. There is a steeliness and a graft about his sides that I think would work well.

Iraola could be the next Brendan or the next Roberto Martinez.

Fact is, it’s going to be a gamble.

People have faults, who’d have thought?

Ron: “The next Brendan or Roberto Martinez” they’re the same category of manager: rubbish.

Iraola could also be a huge success. Who knows.

Frode - they are managers, like Pochettino (although he won Ligue 1 with PSG) who were young, did really well at small clubs, loved by their players, playing good football, talking a good talk and then failed when they went on to bigger teams.

Brendan : Swansea to Liverpool
Martinez : Wigan to Everton
Poch : Southampton to Spurs

Whatever you say with hindsight about Brendan being crap, he managed to convince LFC to appoint him after sacking Kenny. He managed over 3 seasons at LFC.

Who’s to say Iraola or Glasner isn’t another Brendan.

Let’s remember, Hughes/ Edwards chose Arne Slot over Glasner and Iraola. And Hughes/ Edwards are selecting the next manager of LFC.

I was thinking the same thing too Frode. I couldn't see the difference between Martinez or Rodgers. Same category of manager for me.
