Hi Ed1 if Slot were to keep his position to the end of the season, what do you think would be the outcome if we finished Top 4 but trophy less? I know it’s being said Hughes will back Slot as long as results improve, but going from a league title and a huge summer splurge to just being in the top 4 with nothing else to show surely can’t mean it’s been a successful year? It just seems we are turning into the arsenal of old were a top 4 finish was celebrated as a trophy, the winning mentality is being eroded slowly but surely away from a team good enough to challenge on all fronts.

{Ed001's Note - that's not the thinking. The thinking is that the team is in a rebuild and so it was always likely to come with hiccups. They won't be expecting to go trophyless for long.}

We can still win the Champions League and FA cup this season. The post is just the worst case scenario as an excuse to moan. We don't need to celebrate a top 4 finish we won the league 6 months ago for god sake.

15 Dec 2025 22:40:45
Cant win the league every year and if you dont, make sure you get Champions League football. Still confident Slot will do that.

15 Dec 2025 22:40:56
Thunderbird, where is the moaning? Am I asking for slot to be sacked if we only got top 4? Would you class it as a successful season finishing top 4 and nothing else when we have a squad that you must agree are being under used and utilised?

It’s quite a sensible post considering the ones I’ve seen on here as of late. And if that’s the thinking of the hierarchy I think my opinion that the winning mentality is being eroded away seems pretty relevant, a trophy less season with the squad we have for me would be a disappointment. You clearly disagree and that’s fine to have your own opinion but to say I’m merely posting to moan is a little far fetched.

Why not just stop with the Slot sacking questions? were on a good run, why are we obsessed with sacking the bloke?

It’s hard to assess Iraola. They play some nice football, but concede far too many goals. That’s possibly because they sold a number of defenders, but also tactically they’re too open. I’ve got doubts he’s ready yet for a really big club, somewhere like Tottenham would suit him as a next step and may come available the way things are going.

Semenyo looks a good player, he’s more mobile and physical than Gakpo, but he’s also been going through a lean spell recently in front of goal. Again difficult to judge as he’s playing in a struggling team. Gakpo looked better last season than this, not surprisingly though as so did our whole team. Probably of the two Semenyo has the edge.

We won the League last season. When was the last time won it?
And we also sold and lost some players when going on that summer splurge.

15 Dec 2025 23:16:40
Sorry, when was the last time Arsenal won it?

Watched a documentary on lfc last night about liverpool in 1986 who were 10 pts behind utd after 10 games overtook them and them went 8 points behind Everton with 6 games left in the season and nobody gave them a chance. We have a very good team with some brillant players in transition at the moment and everyone is looking for blood. We have a new midfield from 2 years ago and now we will have a brand new forward line with 1 more edition.

Patience is a virtue, who knows Arsenal aren't firing on all cylinders and the same goes for City so just maybe give them a little breathing space. I have been following this club for over 50 years now and I have seen some rubbish over the years also, just because we won the league last year doesn't give up the god give right to win it every year but it would be nice. Just give it time and it will all fall into place.

{Ed025's Note - love it Deise mate..

Excellent post Deisered ?.

It takes more than one poor season for us to turn into the old Arsenal where we merely celebrate and are content with top four finishes. Not too sure we are eroding our winning mentality just because we are having a poor season.

Since you referenced others posts on here then you'd know that most of us aren't happy or satisfied with the way the team is playing or with Slot for that matter. A far cry from the Arsenal of old.

16 Dec 2025 00:24:04
I had that season on video, I think Atkinson was in charge and the king in charge of us. When you watch the video, it said we were 10 points behind and he said enough was enough and we went to lose one game I think to Everton.

I’d say top 4 would be a successful season given what’s happened since July.

Next season the expectation will be much higher but we do have to acknowledge where we are right now.

Just keep improving, get top 4 and build from there. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. As others have said we can’t win the league every season and even the best teams throughout history have had bad seasons every now and then especially when they make lots of changes.

16 Dec 2025 04:21:48
Shouldn't expectations shift depending on how situations evolve? To get top 4 and challenge for the champions league this season would be a good achievement based on how things have gone, if you're just going to hold on to whatever speculative projections you had months ago and stamp your feet complaining about what we 'should' be achieving given the money we spent then you're only upsetting yourself.

Can't we just be in the present and support this team and enjoy watching them play, especially now they look like they're improving in all facets? Not sure what the point is of moaning about losing those games and the team not living up to your high flown expectations for a few weeks.

16 Dec 2025 04:48:58
Expectations are sure as hell low from you posters who only weeks ago wanted a lot sacked…. lol amazing what a few decent results does to your opinions.

16 Dec 2025 06:03:08
Myersmad316 don't tell me that you didn't know that football fan's are a fickel bunch!

16 Dec 2025 06:12:17
I never wanted slot sacked, I think you will find that I have never changed my tune on here.

16 Dec 2025 06:17:44
And surely Hughes and Edwards weren't expecting slot to win the title or he'd be out of a job? Their recruitment has given us a bit of an unbalanced squad, surely they'd have to take some responsibility rather than firing the coach to save their own behinds?

16 Dec 2025 09:16:39
Yes Patrick because that's what happens in the real world, the bosses take the blame and fall on their swords.

16 Dec 2025 09:43:40
PB, the players we got were the ones Slot wanted. Source? The last Ed podcast posted a couple of days ago which I watched.

So where is Hughes'/ Edwards responsibility here, exactly? If a manager got the players he wanted (except at CB and we were about to get him, btw), the responsibility is solely on the manager to get the best out of them. Slot has failed here so the buck stops with him, not those who got him the players he wanted, no?

16 Dec 2025 10:21:00
If your opinions don't change with changing evidence then the only word to describe that would be stubborn and ignorant. At the end of the day we wanted slot gone because that was what was best for the team. Results have improved somewhat so things have cooled. If things go sour again then questions would be asked of Slot again.
