If we matched city for Geuhi in fee and wages and he chose them it's disappointing but if we refused to match his contract then it's a really poor decision, we desperately need a player like this. If no cover comes in the next two weeks I fear for our season.

It's not the only time we've thrown a season away for gambling on not signing adequate reinforcements when needed. I'd presume City will overtake Arsenal while we limp home in 4th or 5th.

No one can think paying Guehi £300k a week is a good decision.

With you Thunderbird. Its the wages that are the problem, City offered him more than double what he agreed with us last summer. Disappointed, but I'm not angry with the club.

English experienced 25 year old future captain with his best years to come in a position we are desperate for……. Yes I would pay £300k a week because if we don't then oh too late someone has.

16 Jan 2026 17:35:36
Zedd, you must be angry. What's wrong with you?!

16 Jan 2026 18:40:21
Rome, if the reports are to be believed City are paying him £300k a week. That's crazy money, would make him joint with VVD as 2nd highest earner. If he got that in his second or 3rd contract with us, having proved himself as one of our best players, fair enough.

But I can see the impact on other negotiations Guehi coming in at £300k would do. So, yeah, I'm not angry with the club.

{Ed001's Note - but he had agreed a contract with us for much less, and would have signed for it in Jan if we had gone back in for him, we just never did. We left him hanging, he has gone to Citeh because we shafted him by not going back.}

16 Jan 2026 21:45:44
Ah, I didn't know that Ed001. Do you think he would still have honoured our agreed contract?

In which case, it's crazy we didn't go back for him. Playing a game of brinksmanship that we just royally forked up.

Now I AM angry.

{Ed001's Note - yes, it was all agreed, all we had to do was go back in. City upped the ante when they went in, but it could have been all done and sealed on 1st Jan.}

Thanks Ed001.

All I can say is

Damn.

Really, Ed? He kept his word and we didn't keep ours? Now, that's nasty work.
