i saw a stst after the game yesterday which both baffled and surprised me about our team.

It appears there is only 1 PL club who has created more chances than us this season, so were are 2nd in the chance creation table. However, we are 16th in chance conversion.

Watching us this season, it certainly doesn't feel like we create so many chances, although we did create a few very good ones yesterday which were not converted.

Chance creation is a very misleading stat though surely.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
I don't need a table or graph to tell me we're a c**p team, other than the one that shows we're 6th.

Indeed, 1985mikey1985. What is a chance for you may not be considered a chance for someone else.

Same goes for the whole XG rubbish. What you consider a big chance, may not be considered a big chance for me or someone else.

Nobody looks into that nonsense. The eye Test is always right. We're bang in trouble.

Chance creation can be very skewed. A better, though still imperfect, metric is big chances. A game in which you have to take a lot of low xG chances is certainly not equivalent to a game of a few high xG ones.

@Oli I completely disagree. xG is an objective measure. It's simply how many times per 100 shots from that exact location went in. For example, penalties have an xG of 0.79 because 79% of all penalties are converted. It does have flaws, as it can't measure how much in control the player was, was it a player who is particularly good at these types of shots or not, and stuff like that. But you can't say that it is rubbish, when it comes with no connotations of its own. What can be annoying is how people choose to interpret it. Solely basing your analysis on xG is obviously foolish, but at the same time disregarding it completely is even worse.

xG is only relevant when looked at alongside how many shots you have. An xG of 3.1 from 35 shots is a different thing from the same xG from 9 shots.

Generally I prefer to use my eyes though.

I prefer to look at the xonionbag stat myself. Xob yesterday was one and fell short end of.

The most telling stats are that we're one of the worst when it comes to our work in midfield, we run less, we tackle less, we make less successful tackles, we win less duels. We're as soft as volcanic diarrhoea in midfield.

@thekoparmy, I have my eyes (all 4 of them) and trust what they see.
