The squads not great atall regardless of maybe alonso taking over in the summer.
Salahs gone, virg and Allison are really at the end, robbos gone. This summer you're looking at the loss of a core of a great team.
Even if virg and Allison stay which I expect, they're not the same players.
At CB, we've signed a player who's going to be thrown into a very physical Premier League coming back from a shoulder issue and an Italian kid coming back from a serious knee injury. Konate most likely will still be here if he signs a most likely ridiculous contract.
In midfield we're serious short of physicality, quality and know how in this league.
Gravenberch should be competing for a place not a starter.
Macca will hopefully be sold for a pretty penny. Dominic hopefully signs.
Up front, we've no quality wide players. Gakpo is leaving supposedly and salah too. We need two top wide attackers.
You could discuss and debate the full back roles as well in lengthy detail. Bradley is a serious question mark. Just the way he got the knee injury, was poor decision making. I believe when he returns he will be on his last lifeline. Play well consistently and stay fit, he's the RB.
Kerkez has eventually started to look like a decent left back. Who's competing with him next season? The Greek scouser?
Wirtz, isak and etitke are quality going forward. They are big positives.

Is Ali gone now as well because Curtis Jones sold him an awful back pass leading to the second goal? It's an odd take.

A few signings needed to get the squad to the level of our rivals, that's for sure.

LB LW RW DM CM. At least 5 in, and 3 of those starters (LW, RW, DM and poss CM). That's without Konate leaving and sticking with Bradley, which I think we will, for now. I'm assuming MacAllister leaves.
For all the money we spent, clear unbalance in the squad. The Isak money could have been used to bring in 2-3 quality players.
Yep, I think we needed to bring in as many forwards as we did, but maybe one of Isak/Ekitike, not both, in hindsight. Caveat, I do think they could play together and I'd like to see that given a go.
Busy summer ahead in a WC year with the potential of a new manager. Might be a long summer, lol.

Alisson certainly hasn't gone when it comes to keeping the ball out of the net, which comes in handy for a keeper. However, his kicking has been lousy all season. I'm not sure if it's related to the injuries he's had. I must admit, I blamed him for the Wolves' winner the other night.

Love Alisson, but his kicking has been poor all season. Would also like to see his shot-to-save percentages since he came back from injury. Just seems like the Alisson who kept nearly everything, except worldies, out, is missing this season.

What are the chances, however slim, of Trent coming back? Also, if he were to come back, would he be welcome back, given the way he left?

Won't be back, and I wouldn't want him back. He will be 28 later this year and is picking up injuries now. We got the best of Trent. Best of luck to him with his Ballon d'Or. Could have been Liverpool captain.

The more I think about it, the more I think a slight change in formation would suit us. The 'Christmas tree' 4-3-2-1, with a holding/sitting midfielder and the full-backs providing the width. Packing the midfield with two No.10s, sat behind a central striker. We have the full-backs to suit, and if Konate signs, then we've got the whole defence already on the books (the Greek Scouser to come back in at LB).
We have two strikers, one of which could also play further back if required. We also have Wirtz and Szlob for the two No.10s. The issue would be the midfield, particularly if there's a couple of our current midfielders leaving. The dream would be Elliot Anderson, Stiller, and Smit coming to add to Grav, Jones, and Nyoni. If Xabi Alonso does take over, I could see us lining up like this.

A complete overhaul in one window would have required in excess of a billion, given the prices we were willing to pay. It was stated by the club before last summer's window that the overhaul would span a number of windows.
The fact that they could not get everybody they wanted in one window cannot be that hard to grasp. It was not a failed window; it was the start of bringing in some of the players they wanted who were available.

Couldn't agree with Florian more on this one for sure. He's had his time, time for us to find another worldie in that position.

imo, I don't think Ali can kick the ball as hard as he used to anymore due to his injuries. Hence, he seems to just float them rather than put his foot thru them from a standing position, something he did vs Wolves, imo.
Sure, Jones was lazy with the pass, but Ali should have just put his foot thru it all the way into midfield. The clearance didn't even get to the centre circle.

Jones is more culpable, for me, for that goal. It was a risky pass. He needed to take ownership, and not put the keeper under undue pressure. I was very disappointed in Jones in that moment, as it was an example of a player shirking responsibility.
With all that said, Ali's kicking is not the same, but he is still a top keeper!
