With the Diomande transfer dragging its heels, I can’t help but think we’d be better looking at Rayan. I’m guessing we are looking around paying £85m–£100m+ for Rayan, and I was trying to gauge the scale of this deal compared to historical transfers like Torres (£20m) or Suarez (£22m).

Roughly speaking, based on inflation, etc., Torres and Suarez would both cost roughly £140m–£150m in today's market.

So based on that, Rayan surely would be considered a great option in terms of value and also need for the team.

Can’t help but feel that as a 19-year-old winger he’ll have an immediate, reliable impact on the right flank at a more realistic cost for our summer plans, whilst being a long-term project that suits this phase we are currently in.

£85-100m for someone with 5 goals and 2 assists in 15 Premier League appearances?

Stop the world. I want to get off.

You're forgetting one important thing. Rayan isn't good enough.

We are not quite in the realms of signing anyone with a pulse just yet.

£26m for Torres in 2007 and £23m for Suarez in 2011 would be the equivalent of £140 and £150m? Really? Surely that's nowhere near right. Not accounting either that Rayan isn't in the same stratosphere as either of them two players.

I think Rayan is a good young player. I haven't looked at him in the limited time he's been in the league and thought Liverpool have to go and get that lad.

I don't think Rayan is the answer. My concern is where do we find the goals that Salah gave us when we won the title? Gakpo may score his usual 10-15 average with us. Isak/Ekitike may give us 25 goals combined. So then where do the rest come from? Not Rayan, that's for sure.

I'm not convinced any of the 100 million priced players we have been linked with are the answer either.

I'd much rather go for an older right winger (21-23 years +). Not these 19 year olds, where we're paying more for future potential rather than current production. Maybe a Mika Godts who could be convinced to play on the right, full time? 30 goal contributions last season. Lower league, but will still translate better in the EPL than a Rayan and his 5-10 goal contributions.

Hopefully we find those goals outa Isak, ArAy. Most wingers will probably get us 10 league goals max, not average over 20 a season like the Egyptian King.

10 Jul 2026 00:27:40
For me, if we are willing to pay crazy money, we better go for the superstars than the highly rated expensive youngsters.

10 Jul 2026 00:29:53
Florian, hopefully, is the key word. My fingers are crossed. But, right now, I wouldn't bet my house on it, based on what I saw last season and now in the World Cup.

10 Jul 2026 00:48:43
£20-22m in today's money isn't even close to £150m. It's more like £65-75m.

Bournemouth are going to ask for £100m for Rayan, who's scored 1 goal per month since joining the Prem. The notion that people are scoffing at Diomande or Barcola's ability/experience in favour of Rayan is mind-boggling.

10 Jul 2026 02:27:28
Torres had played about 250 games for Atletico and scored nearly 100 goals. Suarez had just had a season for Ajax where he scored 49 goals in 48 games. Rayan has played 15 Premier League games.

09 Jul 2026 23:37:39
Where you getting those figures from as the bank of England inflation calculator had £30m in 2007 as £52m now.

10 Jul 2026 06:15:36
A right footed Diomande doesn't make much sense to me to take over from Salah.

10 Jul 2026 08:20:34
If they wanna pay a lot of money for a right winger, what about Rodrygo, Adeyemi, Bowen or Kubo? They have experience and could offer, hopefully, at least 50% of what Salah offered in a good season.

10 Jul 2026 08:27:12
Anyone else think Diaz of Morocco could be an option on the right? Doubt those Real t***s would sell to us, but have always thought he looks a tidy player.

10 Jul 2026 08:48:02
Nope to Brahim.

10 Jul 2026 08:50:56
Keegan's plum, there's a big difference between UK CPI inflation and "Premier League transfer inflation".

140m is a little high, but the Torres transfer from Atletico would be around 100m now.

10 Jul 2026 09:14:38
Isn't Rayan's release clause that comes into play next season £130m? Why do people assume that 6 months after signing him, Bournemouth would let him go for £85m now? Usually, if you want a player before their release clause is active, you have to pay a premium, so if I was Bournemouth I'd be asking £150m just to discourage people.

10 Jul 2026 09:12:27
Threeps where can I find that information.

10 Jul 2026 09:48:02
Naby Kieta transfer would be 342 million then these days.

What a bargain that would be.

10 Jul 2026 11:08:47
Rayan is very raw. I would say he is even more raw than Diomande. People are getting turned off from Diomande after WC, but still want Rayan who had a worse one in a better team, in my opinion.

I think the market is way too overpriced for the quality. We should rather go for Bowen/Brahim Diaz, etc., as a short term stop gap, until a top talent who wants to play for us appears on the market.

10 Jul 2026 12:33:16
Unless we genuinely like all of the multiple names for RW that we're linked with and believe any of them could do the job, then I think we should pivot towards experience if we miss out on our top 2 young targets.
