RIP Franco Baresi, a great footballer and a sad loss. Those of us lucky enough to see him play were fortunate. If you didn’t see him, he’s worth searching out on YT.

Wow, what a player, that Milan team in the late '80s and early '90s was something else!
Only 10 years older than me and probably a lot fitter. I'd better start enjoying my retirement even more!!!

Wow, what a shock! And so young.
It starts getting personally scary when you can clearly remember following players that are now passing away.
King Kev - he was slightly before my time; I was 8 when he retired, but when Baresi was still playing, I was going out with my mates and having a few sherbets following Robbie, Macca etc.
Scary, scary thoughts.

When we watched the Channel 4 Italian league programme (forget the name of it), Baresi was by far the best defender in the world. Used to just control everything with ease, a truly fantastic player, gotta be in the top 5 best ever defenders.

Oh, no, WDW. Really? Oh my goodness. He and that Milan team were my teenage years in football. "The Baron" was his nickname.

Agree @Strom, he never looked rushed or flustered, certainly the best CB of his generation and top 3 CBs in my lifetime.

There were two programmes, Stromsgodset, the highlights show on Saturday with James Richardson: Gazzetta Football Italia and the main event on Sundays: Football Italia with Peter Brackley commentating.

StEtienne, yea that's right, we watched them all, Sky had taken over the football in England and that was free, but it was also the best league by miles then.
