Apparently Liverpool asking price for Gakpo is 72m. I don’t know about you guys but I think that’s a great deal for Gakpo. The only question is, due to squad depth, especially in wide positions, can we afford to let Gakpo go, especially to another Premier League club? Also who would be the replacement? Because I don’t think Rio should be the back up to Barcola just yet.

If we sell Gakpo and sign Barcola, then, as it stands, we would have Barcola, Munoz, Rio, Chiesa, Morrison and Scanlon as the wingers. Iraola has stated he wants Wirtz behind the striker, Elliott and Koumas have been playing central in pre-season so far as well, and Dom's been playing deeper in midfield.

Iraola obviously wants more natural wingers with pace, preferably who can play both sides. Barcola and Munoz you'd like to think could start for us seeing as we'll have only just signed them. Chiesa and Rio you'd like to think won't be relied on to start every week.

Scanlon and Morrison are FA/Carabao Cup options, but I'm unconvinced they're Prem level just yet.

I think once Barcola is secured, even if Gakpo leaves, the priority needs to shift to other areas, though. I'm a lot less concerned by Munoz starting on the wing than I am by Frimpong starting at right back. Ramsay has looked good so far in pre-season, but he's had it pretty easy.

Kounde (or equivalent) has to be next through the door after Barcola. ??

Yes, I agree with Kounde has to be next priority, although I have heard Tomori is looking more likely. I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about Victor Munoz, but if that's going to be our back up to Barcola then I'll back Iraola with that decision.

01 Aug 2026 21:34:38
I think Tomori is very average at RB, but he's a half decent CB. He'd be a good Gomez replacement, but I wouldn't want him to be first choice RB.

Ekitikes out for at least half the season, and even when he's back he will need his minutes heavily managed. Isak already needs his minutes managed when he's fully fit, and he's injury-prone. Gakpo is the only one currently qualified to cover. He hit 20+ goal contributions 2 seasons on the trot, something none of our other forwards get anywhere near laying claim to. As much as I'm not a fan, letting him go this summer is a huge mistake, even if we get Barcola.

If Cody leaves and Isak gets injured, we're up s*** creek.

Forget Scanlon and Morrison, zero experience. Rio is by far the best of the young lads and even he's got massive holes in his game and nowhere near ready to be a week-in, week-out first choice. Munoz is not a Top 5 Prem-level starter. He's got just 1 season in La Liga under his belt and barely escaped relegation, bagging himself just 9 G/A. We need Gakpo, even if we bring in Barcola.

01 Aug 2026 22:20:40
Take what we can for Gakpo. He's not getting any better than his current level, which is good but not top tier.

Barcola and a more natural right winger is needed (Diomande was perfect for that role due to his work rate and running power).

Young Rio has been promised a route to 1st team and more minutes. Gakpo has got to go, especially if Barcola comes in. I think we go for a right winger this window after Barcola.

01 Aug 2026 23:15:55
Wouldn't assume people will start the season in the team because they've just been bought. Barcola will, I'd say, and I do like the look off Munoz, but I wouldn't take it for granted. Could easily be Rio.

01 Aug 2026 23:24:46
Be interesting to see, Flo. We may yet add another winger after Barcola anyway, but I'm really keen for us to sort out RB as a priority.

02 Aug 2026 00:42:07
Scanlon is not a winger. I am sure Iraola is playing him there because of our lack of options, but he simply runs out of ideas. He has been an attacking lb throughout his career, and I think he is suited to that. However, unfortunately I don't see how he makes it with us.

Morrison has a higher ceiling in my opinion, but he lacks the explosive pace Iraola wants in his wingers. We should loan him to a good Championship/Bundesliga side, because he can really excel there.

02 Aug 2026 04:41:42
We 100% will buy another forward if we sell Gakpo, in my opinion. I think the focus would be bringing in someone who can play CF and Winger, as Gakpo fills those two positions.

I agree with MK though, I'd rather the club shifts focus to securing a RB/CB after Barcola rather than another winger. We desperately need someone for that role.

02 Aug 2026 04:59:08
I suppose that's the worst possible way to look at it, Chewy. ? I think Munoz will surprise a lot of people. Gakpo's goal contribution stats are fine, but he is slow and predictable, and teams have sussed him out.

This is also the last time we could even hope to get 70mil+ for him. And we are set to sign Barcola to replace him. It's the right time.

02 Aug 2026 06:04:36
I'd be happy to lose Gakpo, but, as others have said, we'd need another striker to rotate with Isak.
Bit left field, but I'd be interested in seeing what Liam Delap could do for us. Chelsea have just bought Welbeck, and Delap is available, presumably for a reasonable(ish) fee.

It'll be more than the £30m they paid, but should be less than another English striker. He could also be happy to try and push Isak for a starting place, but settle for 2nd or 3rd choice. He'd also have a decent sell on value if it doesn't work out.

{Ed025's Note - Delap is really scraping the bottom of the barrel Brommers, he is awful mate and even the Blues supporters dont want him mate as we are linked to him..

02 Aug 2026 06:39:38
Brommsrs,
I'd rather go for Rory Delap.

At least he's got a long-throw in his locker.

02 Aug 2026 08:17:34
Liam Delap is so poor. I'd rather have Nunez back than him.

02 Aug 2026 08:51:56
The streets will forget Delap

Please no.
