Thoughts on Minteh ed1?

{Ed001's Note - quick, strong, works extremely hard but wayward kicking technique which weakens his end product badly. As a player to develop alongside another player for the right wing, I would say he has potential but as the only choice, then it becomes a gamble. A big gamble.}

Ed, would you be happy if brought in Minteh this summer and Rayan next summer?

{Ed001's Note - depends on how Rayan gets on this season.}

22 Aug 2026 08:56:10
I suppose all transfers, just like managerial appointments, are basically a gamble. Some less than others. We should be buying Rayan ahead of Minteh. That would be less of a gamble.

Could Munoz not be that player Ed?

If not, how do you think he'll be used? Do you see him more as a back up player for the front line positions, or someone that could develop into a starter?

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I think he will be the main rotation option up front and as cover on the left.}

How is getting Rayan less of a gamble than Minteh? Minteh is only 3 years older, has been in the Prem longer, Rayan has had half a season's worth of football, and could have a bad season this year.

The way folks talk, it's like Rayan is a sure bet and a future world beater. We haven't seen enough for him to justify the price he would command right now.

With Minteh, I think Isak and Eketike will score many goals.

Really don't mind the idea of Minteh Ed. Aside from the fact he's injured!

we need someone like that up front.
Someone who will press relentlessly, track back, help out defensively.
Too many superstars in the team, Barcola too if it gets done.
We need someone like Minteh to balance it all out, you need guys like him in a team.
The prospect of AI working with him too if very exciting. With all those physical attributes I think he could turn him into a very good player consistently.

The price is irrelevant really. It's not my money and the market is also obscene. We're not the only team getting our pants pulled down!

@PaddyB, Because Minteh has a serious injury and Rayan doesn't.

22 Aug 2026 09:46:52
Minteh puts in more crosses than anyone else in the top leagues in Europe, apparently seems perfect for Isak.

22 Aug 2026 09:49:07
Rayan also gets into the Brazil starting 11...that isn't a fluke. He's the one to go for...but no chance.

22 Aug 2026 10:06:30
Wasn't Richarlison in the Brazil starting XI not that long ago?

22 Aug 2026 10:11:45
Yes Mk, and Firmino.

22 Aug 2026 09:41:12
Ed.1 I can't understand how a player can have such a poor kicking technique.

Minteh has been in professional football since 2021 (17yrs old) and I assume under professional coaches. Surely, especially at Brighton last season, his defective kicking technique was identified and worked on? Or is it a case of "its how he's kicked a football all his life and now programmed into him".

{Ed001's Note - it is possible to fix butit requires more time training it. In part it would also require him to use his brain and Slow down before hitting the ball. That can be very hard to do when you are under pressure.

22 Aug 2026 09:47:12
It's a muscular injury that keeps him out for two months, not an ACL or MCL tear, how are we classifying that as a serious injury?

{Ed001's Note - I thought it required surgery? If so then it is serious.}

22 Aug 2026 10:16:51
Ed, you think this is a sign that we're in desperate mode to bring in someone to cover that RW position? Logically speaking, if we are that desperate to get rid of one of our best player ever in Salah, I would think that our recruitment team would've been ready with a plan to replace him. It doesn't really look like that is the case now.

Looks like we are scrambling just to get someone in. We couldn't even get Barcola deal over the line before our 1st match of the season.

{Ed001's Note - feels desperate, yes.

22 Aug 2026 11:00:42
It smacks of desperation. People saying that his G/A aren't important, and that he puts a lot of crosses in like Jacob Murphy did for Isak, are clutching at straws. If we identified him as a useful piece of the puzzle for our team, surely we would have gone for him months ago before he got injured. Not a week before the window closes.
