JFC, whinge fest foing on. Ed's, perhaps make a new tab LFC whingers. Not the result we wanted but last season that was a loss we'd be looking at. We had our chances to win that game but didn't take them. The defense is looking to be clicking into a more solid prospect and from there hopefully our midfield can play with more confidence. The players are fighting for the ball again, jumping into tackles unlike last year where they'd back out of.
Any challenge. Clean sheet, new players bedding in and it seems the players are taking to AI and his tactics. We are heading in the right direction, à win would have been better of course but the doom and gloom and jumping all over the players is becoming tiresome. Please Ed's create a place for the whingers.

I'm looking at it like this.
•Iraola gets these lot fit again after 2 years of no training
•Hughes has gone so the new guy will fix the glaring holes in the squad.
•Next year we challenge for the league.

Exactly LFC8, the resolution to the issues at hand is a long-term one. Too many people expecting Iraola to work miracles.

Bergen, why are you dismissing opinions as whinging? We were absolutely terrible yesterday. This is not a draw in amongst 3 wins to start the season, it's a 3rd draw in 4 games. I do not assign any blame to the manager, whatsoever.
We have, however, too many players who simply won't do the basics properly. Too many egos, mostly in midfield, and not a single player that can reliably cross a ball.

We have a group of fantastic footballers but for me we don't have the correct squad and this is as a result of changing managers and playing style, half the players were bought for Slot and some others for AI, it really is poor planning by the DOF, again some proper players have been recruited but some without reasoning. I mean what do you do with Wirtz?
Where does he fit? We have Wirtz, Gakpo, Rio, Barcola and Munoz who all prefer to play from the left but nobody at RW so we are left with this merry go round for RW, I know AI says he wants flexibility up front but players also have to play positions.
In midfield we seriously lack options and power. Our midfield is starting to remind me of Arsenal at the end of the Wenger era, when everyone labelled them soft and easy to bully. Our midfield is too nice, lots of running, lots of pressing but lacking that grit to dominate like Hendo and Fabinho did.

Why do people keep blaming last season for players not being fit this season? Did they not have a preseason to do that? What was stopping them from doing extra training so they could be in peak condition to win football matches at the weekend?
The biggest problem I see is the group of players that are currently there doesn't seem to have the right mindset to challenge for trophies.
There needs to be a hunger and energy in the group and it's hard to name a couple of players that are currently bringing that at the moment.
If Endo, Chiesa, Tsimikas and Frimpong had been moved it brings a better mood around training. Those replacements would bring a bigger hunger to start games.

It will only be after dropped points and poor results Mayo. Wont be a mention of it after a win like in midweek. After wins it will all be talk of excitement for the style of play.
Ireola will come good. He may have to move a lot of this group on before he does though, but in the meantime get ready for Slots love of Gakpo been the reason why we can't break down a low block ?.

It's a difficult one to call as to why some of the players are as they are in terms of basics.
For me that's things like top level fitness and preparation, attitude, workrate, ability to pass a ball, and the attributes required for your preferred position. Like crossing ability for a wide player, and defensive nous for a holding midfielder. These are meant to be elite sportsmen after all.
If a player can't do some of those things even after coaching then they're not right for us. With some that's a mentality or psychological thing, as they're all very talented footballers. Sometimes the shirt is too heavy for them, or with some they're just not at the level required regardless of price tag and wages.
If a player won't do those things that's arguably worse, which is what Lowe is saying. We don't know that, but when a player as talented as Grav continually does stupid tricks and flicks and loses possession, or lacks positional discipline, it does look like he won't do what's asked rather than can't. It seems like he just wants to play his own game rather than be a team player. When his passing is really poor that's more of an ability and mentality thing, rather than anything else.
If the underperformers excelled at something you'd maybe allow a bit of indiscipline. Problem is we don't have many who are excelling at much right now, other than the likes of Araujo and Jacquet who look really promising.
It's a hard truth that many of our players just aren't better than their opponents, if they were we'd win more matches and score more goals.
Defensively we're a bit better than we were, mainly due to Jacquet and Araujo, but we're still near the bottom of the league for good chance creation despite all the money we've lavished in the market.

Here's my thoughts, Lowe. We need 2 new quality full backs, who can play in the way in which Iraola wants them to. This is ironic given that we have Kerkec. Hopefully he shuts me up and comes good, along with Bradley.
Personally, I don't think Szoboszlai and Wirtz can play in the same side together. I've said repeatedly that the jury is still out on Wirtz, for me. I also said last season that Mac Allister and Wirtz were also too similar. Gravenberch continues to look like the player we bought, not the player from the title winning season. I'm stating the obvious, but Iraola can only work with what he's got. If I was picking the side, I'd go with Gravenberch and MacAllister sitting deep and rotating, and play Szoboszlai further forward. If we were playing Fifa, we'd probably get rid of all 3 and start again!
This all goes back to me repeating myself. The problem wasn't just Slot. I watch us now with wonderment, as to how we won the league 18 months ago!

@Lowe, the team is in the process of being The last of the great Klopp team - Ali & VVD - are probably in their lat year of being guaranteed starters and the interesting feature of the team so far is that the attack is going to rely on Wirtz as the middle of the 3 (in the 4 - 2 - 3 - system) with Isak in front of him.
This season is about setting the standards AI wants fitness, effort, commitment and adoption of the way(s) AI wants them to play. Next season we will be ready from the word go.
I wonder if we'll play with a back 3 (from 5 - Jacquet, Leoni, Ndukwe, VVD and Araujo) with Bradley and Frimpong as RWB's which suit both better than playing as out and out RB's and Kerkez and Chambers as LWB's. I suspect two out of the three of Grav, Szob and Macca may go and they will be replaced by th3 likes of Camara and (please) Sadiki, who have the ability to sit when the other one goes forward - basically two box-to-box MFs who can break up play 2when we are being attacked and who have the capability to turn defence into attack.
As well as the 2 MFs we need a right sided wide player. We have Barcola on the left with Rio as back-up, we have Gakpo as back- to Isak and Eki and we have Munoz on the right but need someone as a starter with Munoz as back-up and, like Gakpo, as cover across the line.
It'll be interesting to see how we develop and I'd love us to be there or thereabouts in Feb / Mar. I actually think we already have most of the pieces of the jigsaw who knows, at this stage we are just setting out. I think your view of the team and club and where they are and where they are going is myopic and the criticism is ill thought out so much as to be meaningless. Just my opinion though.

@Lowe, pointing out players issues in a match or general isn't the issue. Reasonable and respectful discourse is grand. It's the completely over the top meltdowns that are becoming a common feature. Gravs is having a bad run of games. He does seem to be out of place at the moment. Passes going astray, not in place positionally. When he came off and Mac came on things tightened up a bit.
Mac has deserved criticism often as many players did from last season but you can see the difference with him on the pitch vs Gravs. It's definitely an improvement from last year. There are some positives to be seen in the matches, it's not all à complete loss and let's burn the house to the ground at the moment yet with some of the whinging you'd think is.
