Ed1 I think it's clear things are goi g to get very messy for City, is the independent commissions punishment final once it's confirmed or can the FA add further punishment?
Also can UEFA start legal proceeding again despite CAS over turning their conviction in 2020 on top of the multiple fines and compensation claims that are goi go to be lodged by multiple clubs over the last 9 years?
{Ed001's Note - The commission's punishment can be appealed by either party, so it could add more, yes.
UEFA's conviction was not overturned by CAS, simply the punishment as the offences were time-barred under UEFA's rules. So no, UEFA are unlikely to start proceedings again, they already found them guilty of most of the same things once already. It probably bears repeating that City were found guilty by CAS, but they ruled that no convictions could be upheld as the offences were outside the time period allowed.}

U mentioned in a previous thread ed1 that in your opinion city will get points deduction and fined. Say they get massive points deduction and our relegated. Really would that make that much difference to them to be out of prem league for 1 season? I'm think most of there players would stay if it only 1 year out of prem league considering v few clubs could give them wages city give them.
The fine would be irrelevant almost to them.
{Ed001's Note - I would expect the points deduction to be spread over multiple seasons.

That would be the appropriate punishment, over a number of seasons.
If they get deducted one time, theyl have 2 seasons, the season with deduction and the season in the championship that will set them back. After that they'll be back to normal.

Thanks for response. That would be a lot different.

Come what may, I think the idea of clubs taking legal action against City is just horrendous - it's a pit of hell that would run for years and years, and where would it end?
To avoid this, I feel that the punishments need to be brutal: all titles, cups etc wiped from the record (but without awarding those titles to the runners up); a 60 point deduction for three consecutive seasons, and a massive fine to be allocated amongst any of the clubs they faced across all those seasons - which would hopefully negate the need for individual actions. With City picking up the PL's legal costs (obviously).

Biggest football scandal in this country of the entire modern era
It's a massive thing, it's probably tarnished the club for the next 50 years.
I reckon the damage from that alone could be more detrimental than the pending punishments.

The punishment should be directed at the club not the players or fans. The players won the trophies the club cheated not the players. I think a 20 point deduction for 5 seasons would be a reasonable punishment and a three year transfer ban. I think it's not unreasonable for the owners to be banned from the Premier League as well.

It's only my opinion, but I don't see why ManCheats shouldn't be stripped of their titles. Nothing against the players, they're simply professional sportsmen who work for a living for whoever wants to pay them.
Points deductions are only a part of it for me. Titles won should be stripped too. Points deductions is the punishment. Stripping titles is correcting the wrongs. Their monicker of best EPL team under the Guardiola years, needs to be corrected, otherwise it's a falsehood that the history books will keep repeating.
{Ed666's Note - I think stripping is an organic punishment but extremely hard to execute due to the tsunami of litigation that will ensue. The likelihood is that had there not been financial irregularities would they have amassed such a glittering array of players and won so many matches/trophies? The answer would probably be no so why should they get to keep ill gotten gains? City will appeal and let’s see what the final judgement will be?

man cheaty versus spurs in the championship next year, ,

I actually think the punishment needs to be expulsion from the Premier League and stripping of all titles. The charges are just way to large and damning to be anything short of that.
On that note and because of the poll, I'm curious why people here think they shouldn't be stripped of titles and trophies? I just don't see how you can't do that regardless of how messy it is. If the league doesn't, it's basically saying you can cheat to win now and pay later. If all they get are points deductions and fines, I bet their owners would do it all over again; it allows them to sportswash, build a club, and just have a couple years of not being competitive.
Overall, given the severity of the charges, the league need to give the harshest possible punishment so that this never happens again. Points deductions and fines are just not enough.

Allowing them to keep the titles is like allowing a burglar to keep the stuff he stole.
26 Sep 2026 21:57:05
Man cheaty need to make that stick.

This is probably worse than anything Serie A has been a party to over the years. A smear on the English game.

I like that comparison Nevada. Spot on.

Love that, Nevada. Kinda like letting the bank robbers keep their booty after they got found guily of bank robbery.
To me, they should get stipped of their titles, Null & Void those seasons and relegate them to League 2 for 3 years mandatory witj a transfer ban for 5 years.
If Cheaty are as big as their fans think they are then, they should have no issues coming back up.
