How does casual and firm contact tally with the monitoring side of things? I assume that the firm contact equates to close monitoring with a guy in a Mac standing in the bushes outside the player’s house.

Monitoring closely often involves “no contact”.
It’s usually against the rules to establish gentle contact without formal permission. “Monitoring closely” and “expressing an interest” are always permissible.

I find it all very unsatisfactory 025, I’m not a fan of throwing your teams weight around.
I suppose it’s because football has become a business now worth billions and it’s more ruthless.
I always prefer watching talent that has been developed than just breaking the transfer record every few seasons.
