I'm simply reporting what I've heard from a reliable journalist source. I'm told LFC has had no contact with Xabi and that Edwards is adamant about sticking with his appointed manager, Slot. There is a lot of dissatisfaction behind the scenes with three players seeking to exit the club as soon as possible.
As I said, don't kill the messenger, and I'm hoping every bit of this is false, but my journalist friend has only been wrong on a couple of things.

Let's hope the other things he was wrong on were the shape of the planet and the meaning of life then - it's 42 FYI.
Who are the 3 that want to leave asap?
19 Jan 2026 13:38:30
Reynard - Any names to the three players looking to leave?
19 Jan 2026 14:25:30
Journalists are full of sh1t, so that tracks.
19 Jan 2026 14:26:21
If that is truly the case I could very well see a situation that Edwards along with Hughes and Slot are gone in the summer.
I understand giving things time but backing something that's not working and is showing no signs of doing so is stubborn and to me seems like a pride thing, not willing to admit your overarching choice or decision isn't working.
As for the 3 players I wouldn't be shocked, from league winners to this uncertainty would fill any elite footballer with doubt about the future. Let's just hope that we end up making the right choices and getting back on track.

I wasn't told, Westwood666 mate. I'm assuming that the players wanting to leave might have come from informal discontent expressed during interviews. I can't really say one way or another. We can discuss whether it's 42 in the restaurant at the end of the universe ?.

While I would love for the club to move for Xabi or anyone who can make us play better, I think this is the one that makes more sense.
I do not think they have approached Xabi, but they for sure have been discussing options for the summer. It would make the most sensenot to move now. You don't want to begin to act like Man United or Chelsea, hampering future coach appointments, or at least not when we are top 4 (if we were below mid table the history would have been another one).
Regarding players looking to leave, I'm not surprised either. Nonetheless, that may change if we change coaches during the summer. The issue I have is that next summer will be another transition summer since players are leaving, we will hopefully have a new coach and we need to give balance to the team which means two defenders, a couple of midfielders probably (I would leave without Grav and McAllister) and wingers. This a little sad given that if we had make tweaks instead of a reconstruction, we would have been better positioned, especially with the state of the league.

Has James Pearce not said the same? Could just be lip service being paid by the top brass to their preferred journalists. I would imagine if a deal has been agreed it would be kept on the QT no?
19 Jan 2026 14:39:07
Can see a world where this is the case. They appointed him. Seems a yes man and doesn't rock the boat. Why would they change that if we qualify for UCL.
19 Jan 2026 14:49:27
Macca, Salah and Konate.
19 Jan 2026 14:57:35
Probably the case. I mean, he'd have been sacked way before now if he was going anywhere.
19 Jan 2026 15:14:29
If that is the case Thefields then I'm ok with it. I would be quite happy to wave goodbye to Macca and Konate based on their performances this season.
19 Jan 2026 15:21:01
About right, fields. Would be very happy to see the back of Konate and Mac Allister though.
19 Jan 2026 15:22:39
Thefields is Salah down to broken promises or a total break down with him and Slot.
I must admit with Salah age if we get some money for him in the summer that's not going to be a bad thing and apart from we won't get any money for Konate I don't mind the other two.
19 Jan 2026 15:23:06
Fields, are the players or at least most of the first 11 players still behind Slot from your awareness?
19 Jan 2026 15:29:00
@Thefields definitely seem like the 3 most likely we could see leave in the summer. With the World Cup on I hope we can get our ducks in a row and get settled and ready to attack on all fronts again next season depending on how the remainder of this one goes.
19 Jan 2026 15:39:47
If Edwards decides to stick with Slot, then he should be addressing the squad issues he and his mate Dickie created.
And if we don't qualify for CL next season, Edwards should be the first to go.
19 Jan 2026 16:07:49
From Alonso's standpoint, it makes zero sense for him to make a deal just days after being sacked. He's an intelligent man and I highly doubt he's going to rush things. For a manager who will be in such high demand come the summer, it would be moronic for him to commit to anything this early.
If you want to believe people claiming Alonso is done, that's your choice, but the same people told you Semenyo and Guehi were as good as done. take everything with a pinch of salt.
Would be no surprise to see Salah, Grav and Maca push for moves if the right offer came in. Robertson is likely gone. Konate too. Virg and Alisson only have a year left on their contracts.
The next 18 months are crucial and considering how poorly the three amigos have handled this season, after every single pundit predicted we'd walk the league, I don't think any of them should be in a job come August.
19 Jan 2026 16:39:41
Grino, the plan was always to sell Salah in the summer.
Macca has long been in Madrids mind, I've known about him wanting to leave since the end of last season.
WM, the majority are in favour of him. Just a few have had their noses put out of place.
19 Jan 2026 17:01:13
Thanks fields and some of their noses should be out of place given their poor performances. If we play like we did against Burnley, cut out the sloppiness and be more ruthless, we will be fine.
But not replacing Konate and expecting Grav to be a number 6 could be the end of Slot, If we'd got Guehi and Semenyo in January it would have been more likelyto have been a successful rest of this season.
19 Jan 2026 18:01:45
Cant see Slot seeing the season out unless things change drastically and we start playing differently. As soon as the brand is under threat of being damaged and the fans turn I think the owners will step in if Hughes and Edwards don't.
19 Jan 2026 21:06:58
At least we'd get fees for two of them, maybe £50m, it's not much in today's market but better than nothing. To replace the three with first team starters is going to cost north of £175m so another expensive summer ahead.
