Nico Schlotterbeck has signed a new deal with Dortmund with a release clause supposedly included that becomes active in the summer.
Not sure if we are interested but from what I've seen we could do a lot worse.

According to Transfermarkt he's signed until 2031 and now will earn EUR269kpw. A select few clubs will have access to the EUR50-EUR60m release clause, but no one knows who. Personally, I'd be buying him and moving off Konate.

I'd buy anyone to replace Konate.

I was initially in favour, but since then realised he's far older than I thought and would be incredibly expensive. Not for me.

I think he was the perfect and only realistic left-footed CB high quality signing available on the market this summer, but now that he's signed a new contract, the market is bare. I'd take Senesi on a free, 2-3-year deal and wait for the next big thing to come along and be ready for him.

He turned 26 4 months ago? We'd basically be buying someone in their prime. How is that an issue?

We bought Van Dijk at a similar age if not older I'm sure.

What I've seen of him, his defending is not great, so a massive hard pass for me, don't want him just because he is left footed.

Konate is error-prone.
Van Dijk is degrading.
Gomez is injury-prone.
Leoni is 19.
Jacquet is 20.
Very strong argument for a couple of mid-career CBs, not against Schlotterbeck at all, and, rightly or wrongly, suspect Van de Ven moves this summer too.
But it's all for naught if we don't have a manager that understands defensive structure, and we don't, after many years of asking, have a Fabinho-style player at CDM.

We need players that are willing to put their bodies on the line, not turn their backs to the ball, or even occasionally throw in a tackle or two. Is that too much to ask for?

We miss a trick with Guehi.
