Rumours this afternoon that Man City and Tottenham are interested in Gakpo, which could push the price up to £70m. With the rumoured fee for Minteh at £70m, and £120m for Barcola, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we let him go.
Yesterday probably emphasised again that we need to keep him, but I guess the money may not be on the table in Jan or next summer.
24 Aug 2026 16:32:26
If Minteh is 70mil, Gakpo iz 95mil at least. If anyone in the club decides to sell Gakpo for 70mil, he should give club another 30mil from his own money.
24 Aug 2026 16:38:51
Ridiculous to let Gakpo leave. Only allow it if they give us Foden in return.
{Ed025's Note - do you really want Foden FK??..
24 Aug 2026 16:40:36
Yesterday emphasised we still need the exact same holes filled as last season.
This current squad right now cannot play 433.
It needs additions, not get rid of Gakpo.
24 Aug 2026 16:40:55
Would have thought in this crazy summer the price already would have been well over £70m.
24 Aug 2026 16:43:32
I wouldn't let Cody go. We shouldn't be selling any 1st team players until Andoni has had a chance to work with them for a bit.
24 Aug 2026 16:45:05
I'd play Gakpo through the middle.
24 Aug 2026 16:46:15
There's more chance of Bonnie Blue becoming a Nun than there is of Gakpo going to City.
24 Aug 2026 16:47:34
Gakpo, yesterday, tried to cross the ball from the left hand side with the outside of his right foot. He had no leverage, so it looked like an average Sunday morning player, instead of at least trying with his left.
On the right, we have a winger that cuts inside... Still!!
Why? Isaak is wasting his talent, making runs for an early cross that isn't coming!!
Get this sorted!!
24 Aug 2026 16:48:45
I'd be very surprised if Gakpo goes for anything close to £95m, though I do think he should (at least) in the current market.
I think Spurs will use Bruno G as an example as they're roughly the same age. But...
Gakpo has a higher goal and assists tally over the past few years, so hoping we argue our case (if we sell).
If he goes for £70m or less, it just shows how inept our Recruitment team is. Buy high and sell low. Completely useless.
24 Aug 2026 16:51:03
Not sure why Gakpo gets so much hate. He's a decent player and he had a bad year last season. With the right coaching, he could improve under Iraola.
24 Aug 2026 16:59:21
Foden! He's been dreadful for two seasons.
24 Aug 2026 17:00:51
Jaysus, they can keep Foden.
24 Aug 2026 17:01:44
Yesterday should have proven beyond doubt that we need Gakpo this season. Head and shoulders our best attacking option yesterday, and I felt he showed some real character when we needed it most. Last season was a stinker, but that could have been said about 75% of our squad.
Still find it crazy that we have spent all summer, and potentially over EUR125m, chasing a player who plays in arguably one of our most stocked positions, with Gakpo, Munoz, Rio, and Wirtz all able to play LW.
I personally think Wirtz should be playing more from that position as he does for Germany and like he did for BL.
Plenty more areas we should be focusing our budget on, such as RB, RW, DM and back up LB.
24 Aug 2026 17:02:13
70m when they sold Savinho for 75m... haha 90m more like. As for Foden, are you mad, he's very overrated. Marmoush and Gonzales straight swap for Gakpo.
24 Aug 2026 17:06:02
It would be nothing short of moronic to let Gakpo go, we saw exactly why yesterday. Even if Barcola and Minteh come in.
24 Aug 2026 17:15:52
If Gakpo leaves and Barcola joins there will
be a goal
deficit, despite Barcola
being superior for the system, he isn’t going anywhere, bag a tonne in the Prem with that level in finishing. Will he make us more
Isak friendly? Depends on more than a winger or two -
We need someone who passes like
Wharton in MF.
24 Aug 2026 17:16:43
While I totally agree we shouldn't be making the squad smaller with sales, the reality is if you are buying in an inflated market, you need to balance that with sales.
In addition, if you are buying Barcola and nurturing Rio, Gakpo becomes third choice at LW. And it would be 2nd and eventually 3rd choice striker behind Isak and Hugo (when he is back).
So why would he want to hang around knowing he could be first choice at Spurs?
We may have no real choice on this one. It's not the same as the Lucho sale, as we have a replacement coming in - Barcola. Plus Rio is a year older and Munoz can play either side.
24 Aug 2026 17:17:08
Agreed Sal, why sell cheaply to then buy expensive every time, makes us look weak.
Wouldn't sell our main threat as it stands, makes no sense, but neither does leaving it till last minute to plug holes in first team.
Buy or dont, just dont dilly dally about, as shows selling club were desperate and price goes up or terms worsen.
24 Aug 2026 17:25:14
If it's Spurs, take Gray and 30-40 million and deal.
24 Aug 2026 17:29:01
Would be crazy to let Gakpo go.
24 Aug 2026 17:40:26
I wouldn't swap Marmoush and Gonzalez for Gakpo Magico. I think they're just about average players with the odd glimpse of excellence. Gakpo is a very good pro and valuable asset. We cannot sell him. It would be totally stupid to do so.
24 Aug 2026 18:11:38
Have you been in the class A's again Down-ey? Gakpo tried and failed abysmally to take his man on, so resorted to going inside (as always). He had a golden chance to cross to Isak for a tap in but decided to shoot from an obtuse angle. He's allergic to pressing in a manager that insists upon it.
Granted he scored, but believe me, yesterday didn't highlight to me that we should keep Gakpo because he's a good footballer; it highlighted to me that we should keep him because we have no players. There's a big difference.
24 Aug 2026 19:33:44
Agree to disagree, Jari.
Clearly, people will have developed an opinion of Gakpo after the ridiculous social media stick he got last season.
He wasn't great, but was better than most (not saying much, I know).
He's more than capable of beating a man on either side too.
He goes inside more often because that's a strength, where he gets shots off from dangerous positions. I find it mad that people use possitive attacking play inna negative way. It wasnt a problem when he was cutting inside and scoring regularly 2 years ago.
24 Aug 2026 20:04:56
@ Kloppdog, I was having intercourse 4 times a night 2 years ago and I can't do that anymore. It's about what Gakpo is producing now is what's pertinent. So you want to keep Gakpo because he scored a few goals two years ago? I respect your opinion, mate, but come on, the guy's a liability and supremely limited as a footballer.
The notion that City want him is incredulous and baffling.
24 Aug 2026 20:28:12
Kloppdog, he goes inside more often because that's a strength.
Do you think Isaak is pleased about that? Keeps making his runs, finds space, time and again, for what? To watch Gakpo smash one into the crowd again or bounce one off the defender.
I like Gakpo as a player, but he has to put his cross in, not all about him.
24 Aug 2026 20:29:34
Jari, bar Isak, who's high-risk in terms of injuries, Gakpo's the only one in the team who's hit 20+ goal contributions back-to-back in the PL. Nobody else in the squad even comes close. And your missus told me otherwise in regard to your first claim.
24 Aug 2026 20:53:23
There's a player in Foden for me their Ed, if he stays fit and hungry (which may be the issue) he's a versatile player. Personally I'd rather keep Gakpo.
{Ed025's Note - he’s a highlight reel for me FK. Can be excellent at times but is only in the game for brief periods. And when the going gets tough he goes missing not a player you need imo mate..
24 Aug 2026 22:44:34
Jari, I'm not sure what happened over a 2 year period for that to happen you but condolences. Maybe try a blue smartie?
No I'd keep Gakpo because he's a quality player.
Who gets goals and assists, consistently, who's regularly one of the best performers at international tournaments.
Isak made runs, I must have missed a few of those.
Gakpo does beat a man on his left also. People just have blinkers on and don't see it, because it doesn't suit the narrative. He also played balls into that space for Kerkez.
The quality of cross there, was then the problem.
25 Aug 2026 08:31:40
Foden's best games occur when the team are playing or are winning comfortably.
