The club will push hard for Sarr before the window closes. He is refusing to train and has had a huge fight with Palace staff. 70m will get it across the line.

Toodles.

01 Sep 2026 13:43:47
Let's hope not.

01 Sep 2026 13:48:01
Mineh makes sense even if the price is high. Don't see where Sarr fits in at all.

01 Sep 2026 13:52:40
Sarr is there for when both Isak and Eki are injured.

{Ed666's Note - probably next week

01 Sep 2026 13:57:53
It seems Sage has enquired about Fofana... maybe this one is not dead yet!

01 Sep 2026 14:03:04
These stupid signature sign offs annoy me more than the BS rumours.

01 Sep 2026 14:16:26
I agree Minteh is the better fit in terms of profile for rw. However, we need a backup to Isak, so I really hope we get Sarr, who can also cover rw.

I would also love to see Camara come in!

"He is refusing to train and has had a huge fight with Palace staff."

What an upstanding professional. I do hope we sign him.

Why stop at 70 million? We should bestow 100 million upon Crystal Palace – extra bonus money as a thank you for such a wonderful transaction.

01 Sep 2026 14:11:59
It's clear all
iTKs are Ed's - you can see the patterns easily but we still
Come
Back every 5 mins cause we are sad little Carnts

01 Sep 2026 14:22:45
Better than pushing softly, I suppose.

Honestly, what does pushing hard for a player actually mean? Submit a bid.
What else can we do? Write him a love letter.

01 Sep 2026 14:27:57
Signature sign offs should be earned.

01 Sep 2026 14:39:13
You mean like Isak Adam?

01 Sep 2026 14:40:03
If Minteh was fit and ready to go, I would say pay the money and bring him in.
Hard to believe that we haven't replaced so many players who have left.
Mo Salah, top goal scorer for so many years, and we go into this new season without a right winger.
Not sure what to say to that.
It's ok, they say, so and so can play right back, right winger.
Can't see us getting Top Four this season.

Playing two iffy full backs means more goals being let in.
Plus defending has been awful, even Ali should have done better with two of the goals.
Big Virg is still not fit. That 1st goal from Forest was a joke. High line, my arse.
So this season could be a wake up call, from the manager downwards.
Lack of Champions League will hit hard.
Still, we have to give this season a good go.

01 Sep 2026 14:50:55
Brighton have just completed Azeez. Minteh may still be attainable.

01 Sep 2026 15:00:17
Didn’t mind the link to Sarr when it was £50m but £70m to that target Parish.

01 Sep 2026 15:05:35
Badly managed window. Slow, protracted negotiations, indecision, moving to alternatives @ snail pace.
Is BB high priority?
Wrong time to consider selling Gapko.

01 Sep 2026 15:30:26
We are done. This window's closed. STC absolute joke!

Left so many glaring holes in the squad. Shocking window!

01 Sep 2026 15:31:23
If Isak gets injured we’ll have no CF. Sarr may save us CL qualification?

01 Sep 2026 15:31:24
Gakpo staying. I wouldn't bother with either Sarr or Minteh; Camara or Kone should be the priority in my opinion.

01 Sep 2026 15:47:55
Isak will get injured, Hugo could take longer than expected to get match fit, and score some goals, which is his job,
so it's ok, Gakpo will cover. Got to agree, way too many holes.

Hoping that we don't get too many injuries that will stop our progress, not sure why we have so many problems, but we should improve as the squad becomes fitter and faster.

Are we all just wilfully ignoring how good Munoz looks?? Shiny new toys don't always work out when they come with a whopping price tag. We know this from very recent experience, although I still have faith in both Isak and Wirtz. Munoz has the kind of energy that Diaz has and a constant desire to get forward. He scored playing from the right and no one mentions him. I'm also guilty of forgetting about Hugo, who was by far and away our best signing last summer like Munoz could be this summer. Hugo and Barcola will have an understanding like most French players do.

There comes a point when the money you pay for a player becomes irrelevant. Isak HAD to start when he could last season because he was a record transfer. But that price tag is already becoming irrelevant this season. If Hugo outperforms him, he will be our first choice number 9. That's the reality because Iraola didn't buy either of them. If they can't find a way of playing together, I can see a world where one of them leaves next summer. Then we have to find another Jota who is both quality and impactful but doesn't mind spending A LOT of time on the bench.

You can't have a World Class striker filling-in for Haaland and that is the standard we want for Isak and/or Hugo. So something will have to give unless Hugo can play off the left. You know, the role that 47 of our 38 players seem to prefer. ?

Also, Slot being soooooo bad last season changed everything. We all know that if he had stayed, Adam Wharton would have been in the door in double-quick time. Sacking Slot changed everything because Iraola doesn't play with a traditional number six. He never has and never will.

Slot was the guy who sold a dream to Florian Wirtz then didn't know what to do with him. Hugo was essentially an expensive Jota replacement (hate saying that about our number 20, but it's true). I remember people on this very forum saying Hugo alone wasn't enough and everyone was buzzing when we got Isak in the closing hours of deadline day. Let's not forget that he missed the whole summer training and then broke his leg.

Young Leoni will prove to be an immense signing, just like Jacquet.

So it really isn't as bad as most fans are making out. If we hammer Ipswich on Friday night, the world looks rosy again and we're undefeated in our opening 3. Newcastle away is traditionally our 5th most difficult game all season and we lost to Forest at Anfield in our two previous matches. Playing not great football under a new system + new coach + new tactics + new training staff + without our talismanic Salah and we still could have won both games. I can see a world where we lose BOTH those games under Slot.

It really, really, really isn't that bad. Lighten up. Spending rarely fixes anything (see Man United post Fergie). And even when it does fix things, it never happens immediately. New signings or making the most of what we have both require time and patience. This notion that we somehow won't even finish in the top 5 is wild to me. Trent couldn't defend to save his life. He didn't even track back, so Frimpong is already a minor upgrade defensively and Conor Bradley is better than both of them.

Don't let negative recency bias delude you. Trent amassed a total of 6 assists in the league the year we won the Prem. That 'wand of a right foot' also scored zero free kicks. Dom scored five last season alone. We won the league in spite of Trent, not because of him, and he was the worst defensive RB in the league. Doku skinned him a record number of times.

I'm not saying I would do this, but our lack of RB interest looks like Dom will be favoured in many games this season. He can't defend either, but he has one helluv'an engine and it's not the 'unglamourous' role it was when Gary Neville was playing there. He can still attack, still cross, still shoot, still take free kicks, and he tracks back. He could also spend just as much time inverted in midfield as Mac & Grav will.

The risk/reward will be epic this season. Just enjoy the ride and remember that shiny new toys often break and when they don't, they still need time. Just like Minteh or Sarr would.

Gakpo is a 7/10 most weeks with an occasional purple patch. He also guarantees 20-25 g/a every season. Combine that with Wirtz, Isak, Hugo and Barcola and we WILL score a huge number of goals once we click. Then everything will feel good again.

01 Sep 2026 15:39:47
I can assure you swampdonkey I am not an Ed, I just pass on whatever info is given to me. Sarr will sign today. Camara wants us but it will be difficult to get it done this late. Fingers crossed we can get him too

Toodles

01 Sep 2026 15:55:52
Very disappointing summer. Haven’t really fixed any of the issues from last season, plus now no natural right winger, weak in the fullback areas, and a midfield group that can’t defend. Oh, and the squad looks paper thin.

01 Sep 2026 16:00:54
@Distinguishedgentleman -- you really think we're still going in for Sarr? This will cause a huge problem with the wage bill, which is already insane compared to just 3 seasons ago (and with Salah no longer being here on £450k a week). We have too many bit-part players on £200k-ish+ a week, including Chiesa and now Gakpo who won't be playing as often as he did before we signed Barcola.

I don't see a world where we buy Sarr today, let alone Sarr and Camara. I'll be most pleased if I'm wrong.

01 Sep 2026 16:07:22
Mattytman1980 - I bet you were good at writing essays at school. Thanks for taking the time to share such a long post. I'll let you know what I think when I've finished reading it!

01 Sep 2026 16:08:36
If we sign a non-homegrown player, someone has to leave. Chiesa?

01 Sep 2026 16:13:54
Bit ridiculous suggesting Frimpong is a defensive upgrade on Trent and that Bradley is a better player than Trent, and then going on to say that Trent was the worst defensive right back in the league and severely overrated. Say what you like about Trent but he at least stayed behind the ball after passing it upfield, which meant we didn't have a full back getting caught upfield constantly, and he put in a shift defending on his flank every game, though we can all have an argument about whether he was good at it or not (I will forever say that he was never as bad at it as folks [mostly non-Liverpool fans] suggest).

This is no slate on Frimpong or Bradley. They just aren't the type to stay behind the ball; they are runners and carriers and want to go upfield.

Just because Bradley does a great recovery run from the opposition box to tackle somebody doesn't make him a better defender than Trent. Trent was a pivotal player in our greatest Premier League side ever. I just think folks need to put some respect on what he did.

I do agree that Dom probably should play right back for the time being. But I also think that we should sign a starting midfielder to take his place in a pivot. Somebody physical, athletic, who loves to get stuck in and who can also pass the ball forwards or play long balls in behind if necessary. Surely there isn't a player on the market like that? Oh wait, there is - Lamine freaking Camara.

01 Sep 2026 16:38:17
Contract or not, you can't blame a player for wanting to leave, especially for Liverpool. We've had it done and it's not nice, but that's footie. If my work stopped me from leaving, there would be murder, and I personally don't see any difference.
