Hi Eds

Just wanted to ask about the "Emre Can" situation. I presume I was not the only one who viewed him as a "one for the future" signing, but pessimisticly expected him to fall by the wayside like so many LFC hopefuls have before him.
Very slowly, (and unceremoniously) he has evolved into an extremely dynamic and capable midfielder. His stamina is inexhaustible and he has a leadership like quality which seems to be lacking in many modern day premier league midfielders. This has been noticed by many of my acquaintances who would kill for him to be at Old Trafford. True praise indeed. I would argue he is the most important midfielder at the club.
He must be given a new contract Eds.

He's been offered one, he doesn't want to sign it.

2.) 21 Jan 2018 11:42:29
If the sticking point with his contract is money I would urge the club to pay a kings' ransom to keep him.
For me, it is a far more pressing issue than trying to find a "Coutinho replacement"
The team I'm currently watching is as good a Liverpool side as I remember. With the addition of a decent goal keeper and the resolution of Can's contract I think this current side Is on the cusp of something special.

3.) 21 Jan 2018 11:54:24
Can wants to be a first 11 player at whichever club he's at but he knows he's behind a fit Henderson in the pecking order and that the other two midfield spots will go to Keita and whichever other player we bring in this summer (Lemar for example) .

If he stays he may get a lot of game time, just as has this season, but he knows the manager will always see him as a stopgap until someone better is available. If he can find a club that wants to build its midfield around him he'll go there.

4.) 21 Jan 2018 12:50:17
Putney nailed it i think. Can't blame Can for wanting to leave either, so long as he keeps playing like he did against Man City until his contract is up.

5.) 21 Jan 2018 12:57:42
I am not Emre Can's biggest fan but he seems to be the only midfielder at the club with the potential to reach the same level as Keita and the "Coutinho Replacement", whoever that is (hopefully a similar level to Coutinho) .

Many sources have said the problem is not his salary but his insistence on a release clause, if the club have no wish to agree, that is their prerogative, no-one is bigger than the club.

Putney has mentioned Henderson, I wonder if there are many posters/ readers of these pages who think Henderson has a chance of ever returning to being fully fit and able to play 30+ games per season, the signs are not good.

6.) 21 Jan 2018 13:28:45
I hope for Can s sake that he doesn't have the same problem with his new club, he seems a very good club player, who seems happy here with us, is he making the right move .

7.) 21 Jan 2018 15:50:25
I would argue that Emre Can is integral to Klopps 3 man midfield. He is a versatile high energy midfielder who fits into that type of midfield perfectly. I believe the Klopp midfield doesn't even have to be that technically gifted, in order for his tactics to work. More important is the mindset to press the ball, cover and simple quick passing. Can does all these things as well as anyone. His tank never looks empty. For me he is better than a fit Henderson. Assuming Keita has no teething problems fitting into the system it is him and Can who are two of the 3 midfielders.

Regarding Lemar, I don't get where he would play. Surely he is a front 3 player. Maybe I don't know enough about him. Also he's extremely 1 footed. I'm not convinced that he is a good signing.

8.) 21 Jan 2018 16:07:28
Yes he has potential, but extremely dynamic, inexhaustible stamina, leadership qualities? I don't know which Emre Can you have been watching. This season he has been lazy, he has not stepped up as a leader in the absence of Henderson. And he's a box to box midfielder who has been very average whilst playing the holding role.

Is he worth a contract based on potential, yes definitely. But I won't be too concerned if he decides to leave.

My camp fire buddies reckon Keita to Liverpool for £75M. What your sources saying Eds?

1st of Sept can't come quick enough.

2.) 24 Aug 2017 21:23:24
Apparently he's a famed bullshitter so wouldn't read anything into it.

It seems to me that we need to get this CL qualifier out of the way tonight (with us qualifying of course) before we start the process of formally bidding for targets. If we have been in contact with the likes of VVD and Keita, I believe these players coming to the club wholly depends on us reaching the Champions League proper.

What part of "their respective clubs do not want to sell" is so hard to take on board?

2.) 23 Aug 2017 08:25:23
So We have already qualified and this is a two legged knock out before a group stage! You do realize the difference between 4th place and 5th place! Don't you? How did we sign Salah!

3.) 23 Aug 2017 08:42:53
Of course "the respective clubs do not want to sell". These are good players we are talking about. In the same way Liverpool do not want to sell Coutinho.

This is the crucial point. Each club, whether through historical success, reputation and financial strength fall naturally into a hierarchical pyramid. Real Madrid and Barcelona are at the top of the pyramid with the other large clubs in Europe just underneath them. The best players obviously want to play for the top clubs.

As a result, clubs below them have to issue statements like this for their coveted players to show intent and commitment, in short to appease their own fans. These statements I believe are merely public relation tools. It makes the club appear steadfast and resolute in the face of a situation they can't really control.

It goes without saying that it also drives the price up. Just simple economics. I believe most of the smaller clubs are resigned to the fact that eventually their best players will move on to bigger better things and these statements are all that they have, when the situation arises.

4.) 23 Aug 2017 08:44:16
Salah may have just been happy to sign for Liverpool in any case.

{Ed001's Note - Salah certainly was, he has always wanted to play for us.}

5.) 23 Aug 2017 08:50:54
We haven't qualified, that's why we're playing a qualifying playoff.

6.) 23 Aug 2017 09:58:54
WCD- It's a qualifier so no we haven't qualified yet.

7.) 23 Aug 2017 09:04:51
only in response to your statement harry, not to the topic, you do realize the difference between 1st to 3rd place and 4th place, in relation to UCL, don't you?

8.) 23 Aug 2017 10:23:58
Well I do Kaizer
They don't get to play this two legged knock out games! But could certainly get knocked out by December!

9.) 23 Aug 2017 11:03:59
You make no sense whatsoever.

10.) 23 Aug 2017 11:12:13
It's a fair point. Liverpool could easily be knocked out of the competition by Christmas, however by qualifying tonight, they are guaranteed at least six more high profile games. This I believe is vitally important for the club. The sponsorship and worldwide exposure is so much greater in the group stages. From a player's point of view, these are the nights where they can really make a name for themselves. From a fan's point of view it's always good to see Liverpool being drawn in the same group as one of the big clubs in Europe which is highly likely. And, I don't doubt with this team that we can compete with these clubs.

The cynic in me knows that the Liverpool brand, (a term I'm not fond of but have to accept) is only strengthened when they are in the hat for the group stages. That is why tonight is so important.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will be in Pot 3 and will be drawn with two name sides plus one from pot four.

So from Pot 1: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, Monaco, Spartak Moscow, Benfica.
From Pot 2: Porto, Barcelona, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain.
From Pot 4: Celtic, Maribor, CSKA Moscow or Young Boys, Copenhagen or Qarabaq, Sporting Lisbon or Steaua Bucharest, APOEL Nicosia or Slavia Prague, Feyenoord, RB Leipzig

No doubt by tomorrow evening will be hearing "conspiracy", "group of death", "can Mane play against us for Bayern Munich" etc..}

11.) 23 Aug 2017 12:06:18
😱😱😱

Ed you just released the hounds, in regards that Bayern comment.

Love it

😂😂😂.

12.) 23 Aug 2017 12:12:26
Thanks Ed. Let's hope they can do the business tonight! Was in Liverpool town centre yesterday and the place had a real buzz about it with the first Hoffenheim fans arriving and having a beer. Scousers were as hospitable and good humoured as ever.

13.) 23 Aug 2017 13:03:52
Has to be Monaco, Barcelona and RBL if we get through.
#Fix #conspiracy.

14.) 23 Aug 2017 15:50:20
Harry, Unless we win tonight a) a big chunk of the fees for participating in the CL will not be paid to the club and b) the club will not have 6/ 8 group games which will be a huge disappointment for the club, the fans and the players (current and potential) .

You do know the difference between finishing top 3 and 4th right?
