Paul Joyce is reporting 45 million inclusive of add ons has recently been bid today by Liverpool for Lavia, this has been knocked back.
Caragher has said it is embarrassing how we are tackling this transfer.

Whoop let's wait for another 6 days for our 4th bid with an extra mil been rejected. It is embarrasing. Why do we think a club will crumble to us. When we hold oit for ridic OTT fees for players we deem surplus. Banging my head against a wall here. Sick of still in negociations nonsense. Southampton aren't negociating they are simply saying nope 50 nd we are embarrasing ourselves taking a week out to go back with 2m 3 bloody times now. Pay the money nd be done with it. I still expect us to get him cos surely not going to pull out of it over 4M at this stage but have wasted almost a month been tedious annoying another club to pay what they asked anyway. Cos we apparently can't multitask this summer ?.

It appears to reflect a lack of respect for the negotiating partner, nievity or a lack of ability. Perhaps a combo of all these.

Don't think ex players putting in their 2 pence helps matters.

Personally, I feel like we have underestimated Southampton a little in this negotiation. We thought they'd meet us in the middle but they are sticking to their original request. Which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. now we either pay their value or move on to another target.

Ever thought that at each offer we place, we are getting a positive movement from Southampton for something like the payment structure. Or the agent might be willing to lower their bil to make the deal go through.

Everything that goes into a negotiation is strategically thought out, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't working positively for the club.

I feel that none of us know what negotiations have gone on because we’re not in the room when they happen.

Saying it’s embarrassing when you know absolutely zero about it is the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever heard of.

7.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 19:16:33
Why is it embarrassing or disrespectful? Lavia isn't worth anywhere near £50m at this stage in his career. He's a teenage defensive midfielder who has played one season for a team who came firmly bottom of the Premier League. We've been more than generous with the offers we've already made.

Southampton need to get real. I hope they don't get promoted the way they're being so greedy.

@ Beck Peck, i am following football for over 30 years now and know huge amounts as i have been chairman of TWO sports teams. How Knaive or thick do u have to be to not get what's going on. Do u think we are talking daily with them negoticiating for a month nd still having bids rejected. We have been told an amount but we trying to test their resolve with adding on small amounts nd been told no that's not what we want. God a blind man can see what's going on while u either bury your head in the sand or simply do not grasp it.

They are real Babbity as they know his potential is through the roof and they will recoup the same profit next Summer with mancitys clause. Not to mention no.6s are hard to come by and their is plenty of interest in him.

10.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 19:57:13
I agree, have you ever thought liverpool only value him at £40m and are now going above what they think is a fair price, personally £50m is way above what I would pay for him at this stage of his career, I would sooner spend the money on a top centre back, we have seen over last few season we have missed out on players and people on here have slated the club for not buying only to see said players not exactly settling the world on fire, have faith in Klopp.

11.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 20:10:59
Maybe Southampton are still annoyed with the vvd saga? Or maybe to do with the 20% they would have to give to man city? We should either pay the requested asking price or move on.

12.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 20:28:31
Move on for me. Been told numerous times what they wanted. shocking trying it on. Wasted weeks on this deal.

Saying you have ran a sports club so have insight is like saying you owned a shop so can tell a MNC how things should be done, just calm down mate it's embarrassing.

Counter narrative…Haggling is part of a good business negotiation, just ask Daniel Levy? if we can get him even 1 million cheaper then we should, saying it’s only another few million so why are we haggling is nuts. If we save 2 million on every deal that’s a players salary saved. Being blasé about finances is a slippery slope, look at Leeds. Keep haggling I say down to the last 100k…it’s better in our coffers and we will still get our man. None of you would buy a house or a car without haggling down to the lowest possible price, why would a billionaire pound business behave any differently for the sake of a few weeks.

You know what im embarrassed at the knaivety of some people on here, we are self proclaimed knowledgable fans but can't see the obvious. The ignorance of your comment pickle is dumfounding.

I know the ins and outs of these type of dealings from my roles that's all i said and i am not embarrasing anybody as you can only embarrass yourself. But you go and try and compare some halfwitted nonsense to try make your point valid. If the Queen had balls she would be the King.

You don't have an answer or an opinion just here to have a go at people who do, we are embarrasements because you said so, mister insight of the century, what do u think is actually happening in the month of daily mettings so?

Its us dnt think he is worth as much and are trying to penny pinch as they have been abundantly clear what they want to do a deal. Wake up and smell the coffee. Southampton and the market dictate the price not liverpool FC.

I/ we obviously have no idea what funds are available to buy players this summer to ensure we comply with FFP and have the cashflow. But if there are additional monies I would prefer to find 90million and go for Caicedo, more prem experience and a little older and wiser. anyone else agree?

18.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 21:48:19
In fairness it’s very good negotiating from
Us. With every bid we are upping our offer and Saints haven’t moved and inch from their stance.

If this gets done it’ll be at 50 mill and would just be 5
Weeks wasted and put down as we don’t understand it as we weren’t involved in the negotiations.

We aren’t involved in tactics or team selection either but it doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed an opinion on them.

MullingarRed. What level of teams have you headed up if a) you can't even spell naivety (predictive text even) and b) you're slumming it on here with the likes of us average, clueless folks?

That said, I can agree with most sentiments on here. £50m seems an awful lot for a player, but as both Klopp and Guardiola have said, the Saudi League has changed the landscape.

My perception is £50m ain't going to get you what it was a year ago. It's a seller's market right now.

Negotiations take time, frustrating though it is for us. I reckon Mac Allister and Szoboszlai were in the works long before we became aware. It's just that now the window is open we all want to see results. Especially now we're close to kick off.

Also, people would be saying what good business we've done of we'd got him for less than £50m. It is what it is.

Stop bleating, enjoy the ride.

the one true thing written in this thread is that we don't know what is happening in the room.

Everything is speculation. but the real mistake is using the very scant info we do have and drawing conclusions about the owner's ambitions.

21.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 23:26:55
Mullingar you are talking absolute nonsense. Just because you may have been a chairman of a sports team doesn’t mean you have any insight into this particular negotiation.

And if you are going to attempt to call someone thick then maybe learn to spell naive correctly first.

I’ve watched two sports teams before and I can confidently say most of us on this chat know toffee about negotiations and transfers, apart from the Ed’s obviously ?

Regarding Lavia, I have no idea if he’s worth 50m (that’s really the call of the pros who have put many hours of analysis into him, rather than most of us who rely on 15mins of YouTube footage), but we do need another midfielder so hopefully we get something sorted.

I know it's frustrating to refresh your pages and not getting enough for your satisfaction. But unless you are delusioned with the 100 players we have been linked with, the idea behind hiring the new temp sporting director is not to bring in the Bellinghams of this world but it's to find cheap alternatives. So don't criticize them for looking cheap, if you have to criticize wait until the end of the transfer market.
Having saying that, Eds if Lavia hands in a transfer request, how much will it help Liverpool?

{Ed002's Note - It will lose him money and make no difference to Liverpool.}

I‘m enjoying this new type of transfer thread.

I can’t remember the last time we made multiple bids for one player in a single window. In fact, for the past couple of years we’ve hardly bid for anyone. One or two players at the start of a window and we’re done.

The cool thing about Lavia has been my realisation that there are an awful lot of top notch business negotiators out there. Obviously, the board is well versed in conduct complex financial negotiations with (often times) reluctant sellers for £ 50m transactions on a regular basis. The insights into what’s going on behind closed doors is extremely helpful - thank you.
